hunan 01-04-2007 09:55 PM

you know, when you want something done, i guess ya gotta do it yourself. i asked mom dukes to find the bank that owned that house and i got lost in the owning your own business shuffle.that's o.k. i guess, she's in tampa now working on a few deals for us. if they go through, i'll buy you a hemi!! that , i believe, was a 392 marine hemi. doh!!:crying: :crying: :crying:

Do it by eye. It is not too difficult. Lay out the rearward shape with a template, waste out most of it on a band saw, push it into the right sized sanding drum until even with the "brow" (you don't want to undercut the brow too much), then roll it and sand back to the layout lines, touch it up with a file. The difficult part is weighting them. This one has a tail weight and chin weight, ala Mr Pogey, but it doesn't swim as well as a Gibbs except at one specific retrieve speed. The next batch, waiting for paint, are weighted like the Gibbs, 1/4" slugs along the thru wire, all the way to the front hook hole. I'd love to get my hands on a Musso to see how he did it, and I think Pinchney also made one, though there's probably no chance of ever finding one of those.

I have been trying to figuring how to with a "Normal" lathe but keep seeing potential probs so I dont know what to say. I can give the basic principle then maybe you can see something I dont.
One thing is for sure is there too much to it to explain here:wall:

I handcarved one tonight ... not too bad ...Are they weighted .. I have a few originals .. either they did a good job hiding the weights or there aren't any .

Crap! Where do I get one of those?

PS. Eddy and Chris, I'm pretty sure they are unweighted, if I get a chance I'll check for sure.
