[QUOTE=Tagger;448741]Pat Petrillo .... Insane ,,, put him on the list ,, He do anything with it Ronnie .???
Yes, you can check his website to see what he's up to www.patpetrillo.com or go on the modern drummer website and read about him there and see who he has worked with ! Here is another link for a guy I knew back them also www.tommyigo.com and you can read about him in modern drummer also! |
Steve Smith..Journey....Went to High School with him...
|
Best I've seen live:
Richie Hayward (Little Feat) Ginger Baker Karl Palmer Kieth Moon John Bonham (also loudest) Max Weinberg (E-Street Band) Oh, yeah and the guy in the Safaris (WipeOut!!!!!!!!!!!!!):sick:  |

Also Mike Mangini, he holds a world record... |
I'll second Richie Hayward of Little Feat. Maybe not the speed merchant like some others mentioned above, but he keeps their funky beat to perfection.
|
if yer talkin Jazz and mentioning Buddy Rich, you cant leave off Max Roach. Buddy was great, but dated. The bop drummers took it to a new level.
For rock, I like the guys with style, ones you can hear and intsantly know who they are. For me, JOhn Bonham and Stuart Copeland (police). |
Stewart Copland gets my vote too Jimmy.....original for sure...love his style....heard a rumor today the the Police are going to tour..
I saw him a couple years ago with Oysterhead as well as with the Police many moons ago...still amazing... |

If you put one these polls to the best drummers in the world,( not to just the every day music fan ) Steve Gadd is the guy they all look up to is at the top of all their list ! Hal Blaine was good in his day also ! |
Best drummers I've seen live :
Keith Moon--1975 Billy Cobham--several times,Mahavishnu Orchestra and Bobby and the Midnites Corky Laing--1975 Matt Abst--2005,2006 REALLY GOOD--Government Mule's drummer I also remember Ed Shaughnessy from the Tonight Show band, excellent. |
Cozy Cole-"Topsy Part Two" , haven't been able to find that solo anywhere. :(
|
I always wondered where this version came from:huh: I guess youtube answered me
I had this on bootleg years and years ago and always got a big kick out of it. some good drumming here too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NclTXnZAduI :btu:  :jump: :bgi: |
I'll second Ginger Baker. Can't beleive he's still alive.
|
Thanks Karl, some great memories there. If i'm not mistaken, that was Dizzy Gillespie on the horn in part 1.Part 2 had alot of Cole.
Saw a drum battle between Cole and Krupa at the Metropole in NY with both of them behind the bar so close ya could touch them. :hihi: Good times there with all the greats, Satchmo Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton to name a few. Different times, but great music. :) |

Great drummers
Me ! :bl:
I came across this clip from back when i was young http://www.jamesreilly.net/brdgmn/bmn82bmj.mov Not good quality video though! I'm the 2nd snare drummer on the left side (looking at screen, r side) |
Don't get much better than this
Although this should be in the music forum http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln6b_...eature=related |
Off it goes then....
|
Not sure if it is within my power to do so or how I would even do it. Thanks K

nice john . Vai's fingers are so friggin long. Looks like he's playing a ukulele.
|
|
Nice Ronnie ...... really enjoyed that ..
|

Ron. I'm surprised Steve Gadd doesn't break more stuff. He is very aggressive, but pretty much my favorite. Luv his syncopation, style.
|
That Tommy Igoe is a technician.. funny to see a young guy play with traditional grip .. He has a gift plus he's trained ..
|
Max Weinberg????:jester:

Another technician who I knew back in my marching days with the Bayonne Bridgemen (DCI) Pat Petrillo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXPa2LNfhdo An amazing display of technique, tone & feel !!! Funny thing, when I knew Pat he played snare drum traditional grip (Best I've ever seen in person) Tommy Igoe played toms (quads) (best I've ever seen in person) Now Pat plays strictly matched, Tommy plays traditional grip ! |
Another of my favorites.
Dennis Chambers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ues2R...eature=related Dennis has been the tutor and mentor to Tony Royster |
|
|
Jazz guys: Roach, Cobham, Tony Williams
Rock guys: Palmer, Pert, Moon, Carrey, and sometimes Bonzo and Butch Trucks and Jaimoe (really can't put the Bros in a category) |
|
This pretty much sums it up
Just read the 1st line of his bio
http://www.drummerworld.com/drummers/Steve_Gadd.html "No doubt, Steve Gadd is the most influental drummer of our time" Before Steve that honor went to Mr. Rich. |
Dave Wekyl, know as the drummer with four arms and four legs, saw him at Rileys jazz club in Cambridge a couple years back, unreal what the guy could do, had two exceptional local drummers with me and their jaws were on the table all night
