Pigpen covering the Otis Redding song "Hard to Handle" live in Canada in 1970. One of my all time favorites, unfortunately they didn't play it after Pigpens death.
The old Merryprankster himself shows a little more life than normal on guitar.

That was weird. Not 2 minutes after that exact version played on Sirius, I find this thread here... :kewl:

If you like 'em, and have experienced the Dead shows, then you are a Dead head. I saw them many times, starting in 1976. But you would have had to been there, to be a Dead Head. IMO:kewl:

Last show was 6/15/95 (highgate, vt).

Mine too. I still have one intact, unripped ticket from that show.

I read something years ago.
Can't remember the exact words.
Went something like....
"The noise, the crowd, and the magic of a summer night."

Teddy Stefen told me you were a big dead head but i didn't believe him. hippy :hs:

Once I get off the Vineyard I'll dig up my ticket stubs. I'm sure a lot of us were at the same shows. Man I've been listening to the Dead recently. Old Filmore stuff and shows in the eighties. Feels good to feel good.

my first show was 9/15/73 in providence.......they had a couple of horns with them......i think.....

tautog 05-28-2007 07:43 AM

I went to the Pvd shows in 73 and I don't think they had any horns with them. Thus was the time they were experimenting with the famoues "Wall of Sound". It was very a impressive and had great sound but they stopped after a couple of years due to cost, moving it ,trucks, help etc.
One of the only horn players I remember doing much with them was Branford Marsalis playing sax on "Eyes of the World" on the "Without a Net" CD.
I'm sure other horn players have jammed with them but I don't remember too many in the early 70's.

Thanks for the stories, everyone. Clammer, you almost made me cry....almost.

I still think of my Dad whenever I hear "Box of Rain". He's been gone for 5 years now

I only saw about a dozen shows but stilll listen to some Dead, enjoy "Jam on" on Sirius from time to time. Never got into Phish for some reason or other, go figure, but really looking forward to the Dead Channel this summer!!!. Rock sent me to Dead, which sent me to bluegrass, which sent me to country. Now I listen to just about everything but it doesnt define my dress or lifestyle. Patchouli is no replacement for a weekly shower, imho.

Anyway, you all may want to check out Ludwig's Vault dot com for some downloads.

Rock on.

afterhours 05-28-2007 03:13 PM

Martin Fierro and Joe Ellis were on the horns.

UpChunk 05-28-2007 06:17 PM

Love the DEAD, check out www.deadlistproject.com, every concert from '65 till '95, u can search by venue, song, date whateva.......

Hey CLAMMER, so sorry about your loss, but that was a great read, an inspiring as hell, godbless all those Loved ones that came before.....stephen
oh btw i am 45, and have seen at least 75 shows from '78 to '95

tautog 05-29-2007 10:09 AM

My mistake on the Pvd. show horns. I'll have to go thru my stack of bootleg tapes and see if I have that show and give it a listen. I guess the horns didn't leave much of an impression since i forgot about them.
One of these days I'm going to get a machine to transfer all my tapes to CD.

If you are up for it, there is a very active CD trading scene, and you can get much better quality than what you have on tape.

tape to cd = hiss.
