BillyBlanks 01-12-2008 01:07 PM

Sinking Line

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to ask, who fishes a sinking line? Curious cuz whoever gets my mystery fly will need one to fish it correctly.

saltfly 01-13-2008 09:13 AM

I do when the water is moving, waves on the beach, and deeper than 4ft. on the flats.

BillyBlanks 01-14-2008 04:07 PM

Saltfly, got your shrimp. Nice work

saltfly 01-14-2008 06:18 PM

the sand eel is yours.that's another"killah" on a grey day on the flats.on a sunny bright day knock off some of the flash if they turn off after attacking.

cheap glasses

Ed -

go to OSJL, AC Moore or Michaels and get a cheap pair of 1.0+ or 2.5+ or better. I have perfect vision, but a little magnification helps worlds. That being said, I am no optometrist. :smash:

- ATG

BillyBlanks 01-25-2008 09:32 AM

ATG, got your crease flies. Nice job, thanks for the participation.

BillyBlanks 01-28-2008 04:40 PM

Outstanding Flies

Guys,

If I don't hear back from the people with outstanding flies I'll close the swap within the next week or two. Tiers that have sent thier flies feel free to give input if you feel we should hold off or close it.

saltfly 01-29-2008 07:56 AM

I think closing it in two weeks is reasonable. Also ,a notice to those who havent sent flys yet to please respond if they're "in or out" as of now. That way if there are others who would like to participate there is still time.

ThrowingTimber 01-29-2008 04:00 PM

Yeah but how much time do you take off during the season and when your there how productive are you after fishing all night. I think you owe them . :faga::bshake:

BillyBlanks 02-01-2008 09:29 AM

Haven't herd from anyone else, so once I get Timber's flies we'll close the swap out on Saturday (unless I hear from someone). That will leave us with 6 tiers, so we'll get two from each + mystery flies for those that tied them.

stripercrazy 02-02-2008 12:03 PM

CB2fly's comments on his Squid Flies

I ended up making a heavy large squid, I fish this fly in and around large rocks and structure in where bass can ambush this fly, i fish it very low to the structure, this fly has been very successful for me. It should ride like a clouser hook side up with an airflo cold water fast sink tip in rips and sharp drop offs. This has the possibility of catching fish on the drop, you need to mend the line to try and keep tension on the fly the deeper you dredge the various water levels. This fly has been very good at fishing below large Bluefish blitz, when large stripers set up below the "top or middle" layer of baitfish.

cb2fly 02-05-2008 06:10 PM

small squid fly, not so much..

Billy,
I know you got my flies a while ago, I said I was going to make a small (kind of a shallow or flats type of squid)

Well, I ended up making big, ugly and heavy 3/0 clouser style SQUIDS- "as the MIB would say". They have been very sucessful for me over the years when fished deep with the Airflo Forty Plus Coldwater sink tip, low & slow. I think I am getting sick of winter, ready to go out with these spring temps.
cb

BillyBlanks 02-09-2008 10:17 AM

I'm with you CB, cant wait for spring. Thanks for the albie post on the other spot. We gotta plan a trip come spring.

Timber, your flies are in.

Swap is closed, I'll package them up and get them in the mail ASAP.

Thanks for all of your contributions.

BillyBlanks 02-11-2008 11:18 AM

Closed

Hey Guys,

Got the flies and the swap is all closed up. You should be getting the same number of flies back that you sent in (its a bit of a mix n match since we only had 7 tiers). If you sent in more than 12+1 I assumed the extra flies were for me (thank you to those who did). Should have them in the mail tommorow.

Enjoy!

BillyBlanks 02-12-2008 10:45 AM

SaltFly
I am really liking the Shrimp pattern for the flats, can't wait to use it....
That will go nicely with the clear intermediate line for the Veterans 9 WT outfit we are collaborating on...I am just now seeing that you were part of the swap.
Nicely done!!

saltfly 04-21-2008 09:18 PM

thanks chuck,it was my best flats fly last year bar none.alot of fish actually came back for it when the cast went almost behind the fish.

BillyBlanks 04-22-2008 12:48 PM

I agree, that looks like a great fly. I'll have to get down to the cape or RI and catch up with CB for some flats action!
