Cathing my PB this year was pretty damn cool and also winning a weekly winner prize in the striper cup was pretty damn cool too, but I gotta say THE most fun I had fishing this year was Cuttyhunk. Even though the fishing wasn't great, there is something special about that place and being there with you bonafide striper nuts and meeting new friends was all I needed.http://www.striped-bass.com/Stripert...ad.php?t=41561

Throwin a needle at night on MV....I'm in up to my chest and I hook into what feels like a greyhound bus. At the same time across the sound, a town fireworks display starts so I'm getting that and the reflection of it in the water! Turns out I snagged a 24" striper sideways (you know how that goes) but man, what a rush....brain felt like it was back in '68!
|
memorial day catching large stripers on manhaden,,, that was a first for me
|
Coming right at the boat, about 20 - 30ft off the beam, seeing a bluefish dive out of the water, then right behind it a giant tuna coming out of the water behind it with mouth wide open.
It was an awesome sight. |
Watching my brother come out of the head on the Cuttyhunk Ferry after the thing exploded all over him!
I didn't catch too many big fish this year, so that was cool for me. The other was sticking a whole Bud bottle down the gullet of a good fish that Mikey got in Ct right at the beginning of the season. Boy was he surprised when he cut open the stomach! Later, Rick |
catching fish on my first two casts during my first ever trip to montauk
|
Taking a bunch of kids fishing at Lake Winnepisaukee (?) this summer
and having them all catch fish. Although it's not about big fish, it is about another generation of potential fishing buddies to carry the torch into our future. |
Getting my personal best on a top water in the worst weather i have ever fished 20 minutes after leaving the saltwater edge with a simms top, not getting wet never felt so good.

:btu: Awesome! |
mine was probably the event that made me hang it up for the season..
sittin on the jetty. laying into dogfish after dogfish.. some big ones atleast.. (better than nothing) any way.. gettin ready to wrap it up. i get a hit.. oh joy another dog.. so i reel em up.. then i feel what appears to be seaweed or the like weighing my line down. turns out it's a lobster.. it apparently really liked my weight.. to the point where it had it grasped (still did) for long enough to get all shades of wrapped up in my line. ok not a problem, happens with crabs and lobsters all the time.. except, he managed to get wrapped up about 40 ft up the line from my hook.. and i got decent doggy pulling away on the end... so some how my buddy managed to untangle the litte bugger with all the tension on the line.. and both got thrown back to go about being stupid.. now that's not all that great.. but i kept thinking "oh man this would be my nightmare situation if i have a decent fish on!" though i suppose a decent fish would have ended up cutting/snapping the claw right off with the braid.. but after the way everything had been going it was one of those perfect ways to end the season. it sums up the frustration of the last 3months there. and gives me a decent chuckle. |
fishing in the dead of the night...on a sand bar in 85 degree weather with just a bathing suit and a t-shirt on....and hooking into decent fish fishing a needle real slow....and being totally alone...

I had some great days bass fishing by myself last year, but the days that stand out as my best days were fishing with my son and my dad.
I took my son down the cape in may and there were bluefish everycast but they were out too far for him to reach, so I'd cast the 2 rods and we'd reel em in together and see who could hook up first. Then whichever rod hooked up, he'd reel in the fish. He landed something like 40 fish that night and we left when his shoulder ached. And then he asked if we could go again the next night and it was just as good! |

In mid october I took a week off to fish with my dad, and we got lucky and hit the best albie fishing we've ever had in some not so nice weather..
Over the course of 3 afternoons we landed 50 something albies, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz what a blast in the surf on light tackle. It is a lot of fun trying to get them out of the rutt on 12lb test.... |
Watching my daughter reel in what seemed like a really big bass when she hit the free spool lever on the Penn 113H and all the lead core line backlashed making the reel unusable. So she yelled "dad" and threw the rod at me and handlined the 42LB bass in by hand. Smiling the whole time and setting a new boat record.

Hands down best day -- My 4yr old son catching his first Striper.
He got 3 in about 1/2 an hour, biggest 24" right at the dock. Forget the tuna and all the other stuff, Best Day Ever. |
Seeing my wife and my father (over from the UK) both hook into 5-7lb blues on a bluebird morning at the beach. My 4 year old eldest daughter helped to reel in a couple of blues as well. Great big grin on her face!
We had planned a walk on the beach only, but I always bring a couple of rods just in case!. Priceless. (sorry Tynan - I never did get round to putting those photos up!!) For this year, my eldest is asking for me to teach her to cast so that she can join me on the beach, and my second daughter (2 1/2) is asking to 'fishing with daddy'. Looks like I am going to be busy!!:btu: |
September 07
Fishing on the canal with my brother. My brother and I are NOT close but when my father passed away in September my brother and I were making funeral plans with my mom and the funeral director brought up fishing. We started talking about fishing with the FD and after we left the funeral home I asked my brother if he wanted to sling some snakes at the canal to reduce the stress level. He accepted the offer.. He met me at my house at 2:00am and we drove down to the canal with another friend of mine, all three of us had our bikes with us we stopped at a few of the known eel slinging locations. We had alot fish attacking the eels but no actual hookups. During that time we had great conversations and had an overall great time. The cool thing was after we left around noon the next day fish started bustin all over the place...my brother and my friend were too tired to fish but I was glad to see my brother see a mini canal blitz....great time! Hopefully we can do it again but under better circumstances. |
Slamming 30 lbers with live pogies with my son , my gal and my brother in the pouring rain for hours. Best day all year!

One night in early September on a full moon standing on breachway X just catching fish after fish after fish, gator blues and bass up to 25 lbs...
Ice |
first best-the september morning my 10 year old son got his first surf caught keeper & then 2 or 3 casts later watching him fight 2 10 lb blues on an AH pencil at the same time- he was one spent little dude....
2nd best- was in late november- he hooked what would be his last bass of the season but (without being asked by me) called his younger sister over to fight it- she was so excited (it was her first bass) and he was such the "big brother" awsome stuff ill never forget. |
This past fall my older brother, after prompting from me to get out and go fishing, was calling me and telling me how the fishing was up in Winnipesaukee. He has a house not from the lake, and he'd get home in time to get an hour of 2 of evening fishing in.
Now he knows how I feel about fishing, and the fun and relaxation that it brings. Now that I've got another fishaholic in the wings, we can plan on taking our nieces and nephews (his kids included) fishing more regularly. One of my most personal treasured fishing moments happened a number of years ago, years before my father passed away. We were fishing down in Brewster, at Flax Pond in Nickerson State Park. My father preferred to fish with a fly rod with sinking line. He wasn't really a fly fisherman, since he didn't cast flies or lures, but he liked the fight he got on a fly rod. He would fish his 2 lines, and I mine, seated as comforatbly as possible in a 12" pram. He had just pulled up another 6" perch, of which there were plenty. As he set his line, I checked his other, and unhooked another perch. Well, as I was pulling up his other line, a HUGE smallmouth bass appeared from under the boat and inhaled the perch while it was still hooked. I gave the line a tug, hoping to set the hook through the perch and into the bass, but only succeeded in pulling the perch out of it's mouth. As I explained this to my father (who was a little hard of hearing), he pulls up on his other line, and tells me "I'm snagged on something. I think I hooked the anchor line." I laughed and said "It can't be the anchor line, because it's behind me, and it's running away from the boat". I lean forward and grab the rod, just long enough to stop him from jigging back and forth, and when I did, I felt the head shake of a really good fish. (Unfortunately, the pictures do this story better justice than I could ever convey, but picture the following:) My father sitting at the stern of the boat with his fly rod doubled over, it's tip is submerged as he proceeds to reel the fish up from the deep. It takes him 10 -15 minutes before we get a glimpse of the fish, and we're both awestruck. He had hooked into a smallmouth in the 4-5 lb. range, that when held at chin level hung down to his lap. Although we never did hit the saltwater together, our freshwater excursions were quite memorable. My dad taught me to fish, so I'm just trying to carry on the tradition. This time I'm getting the kids to the ocean as well as the ponds. Here's to every kids' father & mother, and every parents' sons & daughters. |
I'd have to say the day I broke the 35# mark in late April last year on a Mac pencil.

Nov.2 20lb+/- bass taking a pencil in the curl in 2 ft. of water off Hull.

Driving off the ferry in Vineyard Haven last September.

Squid fishing with my wife, she couldnt get enough. Thats all she talks about now is how shes going to miss the squid run because she will be finishing her studies in poland. Also getting her on some blitzing blues and her first keeper
|
Had 2 memorable days.
1. Taking my mom and dad fishing. Dad knows what he is doing but mom needed a few lessons. She can now cast conventional. If only i had an 8' rod for her, the 1208 was a bit too much for her to handle. 2. Getting my PB on topwater during a nasty squall that i watched move up the bay, and when it finally hit the fish went nutty for a half hour. A day i will never forget. |
I had each of my nephews up from PA for a visit and trips to the Stiper surf, separately, last summer.
Best days were the days they hooked up ~my youngest with a 27" striper~my odlest neph with triple hookups within 5 mins. at a smallie and largie hole i know on the NShore. we caught and released 15 bass within 40 minutes. Those days were the best for me, passing the torch stuff..........and they gotts it baaaaaaad :bl: :bl:. Personally, my best time in the surf was NOT the night i released my first 30#'er. My most exhilarating and bittersweet night was the night last year when I experienced my first set-up on an eel, i lost the biggest monstah i've ever hooked, and realized that my honey hole is way more prolific than i first thought ~~all on the same fish. This year ~SHOULD BE~ off of the charts, boyz!!!! |
Don't even know where to begin, lots of great times and moments. Cutty? MV? 'Gansett? Blankety Blank Blank? - Maybe the best was watching my son tong Choggies in Jamestown :tooth:
|
Watching backbeach catch a low 30#class fish laying on his back....
|
They were all good. From Paul's plastic jetty in the upper bay, to the canyons, to pounding rocks with Joe, to taking Nebe and goosefishy blackfishing. capped with a few good nights in November.
good year. decent fishing always fun, always room for improvement. |
Watching my daughter catch 8" snapper blues all afternoon. That beats every trophy I have ever caught. It is what fishing is all about.
|
Watching my brother (Swimmer) fight the seal on the Vineyard last fall...Frieking hilarious:fishin:

My most memorable moment this past season,
Hanging off a red can out off Plymouth harbor in PEA SOUP FOG, I was sounding my horn and hooking up with fish we heard a big boat motoring up then 50yds off my BOW he was inside of the red CAN outbound underway A Capt'n John boat I got on the VHF and started yelling they finally saw me with 3 spotters RADAR GO figure , you can pick the CELTIC-KNOT up on radar. They came back on the radio saying i didn't see ya well we made it anyways but that was a wake up call LINK |
