Now I carry two lights on one headband. Looks funny, but works fine.

I haven't done the 100 steps in years. That's why I have a bike, to access areas from the Run to the campground ;)

Always carry a back-up.

OKAY!! alright,,,,,,,,Allready!!

i'll go get a back-up today..........
always have a b-up of batteries, ziplocked in the backpack
there's plenty of room for another necklamp and a "torch".

maglites are the chit, even the minimags bust
out some mega candleage; considering their size.

I never understood why i see so many guys wearing a "head" lamp around their neck. When I need the light, I need it to shine wherever my eyes are looking... I dont need to look down and jam it into my chest with my chin... and you KNOW its not going to be shining where you need it. I think most wear it around their neck out of fear of looking like an over-zealous newbie... to show how seldom they actually need it. Who knows, but for me, a light dangling on my neck is a flat out nuisance.

If you have bifocals it works a lot better.
It won't fall off.
I get less light in my eyes with it around my neck.

I used to use rechargeable batteries - I would always have a light fail during the cold nights of fall.
I use an LED light now and alkalines - never have had one fail - but I still carry two. It's dark about twice as long in the late fall as it is the summer.

The one I have is essentially a headlight. Hang it around your neck (so that bloody wave can't get it without a fight...) until you need it , then move it up to your forehead and bring the strap up as needed...

A hell of a lot more comfortable over time, to say the least.
The one I have also has an adjustable LED head, which does pretty well even at the neck, or when I sometimes bring it up only to place the pad over my mouth (too busy/lazy to get it up to the forehead and works almost as well, without it getting in the eyes at all).
