An album that brings back a lot of memories because I happend to be in New York city in the crowd at the Ritz when a lot of it was recorded is "Urgh, A music War!"
When Klaus Nomi hit the stage in his Kabuki Space man get up with the falsetto voice doing "Total Eclipse" the place went Ape Sh!t!!!!!!!!!! |
Commander Codyand His Lost Planet Airmen, "Hot Licks, Cold Steel and Truckers Favorites"
|
Black Mountain - Black Mountain
|
Just an add to my previous list
Drive By Truckers Cowboy Junkies Also it seems I'm not the only one who thinks Ryan Adams work is top notch! |
If I'm driving to or from fishing and need to keep awake, I listen to stuff that probably no one here would recognize.
Rocket From the Crypt (favorite is RIP live) The Misfits John Spencer Blues Explosion If I'm just going for a long drive, I'll listen to just ablout anything from Phish, Allman Bros., The Dead, to The Beastie Boys, Weezer and The Foo Fighters. Skin and Bones by the Foo Fighters is a great road trip album IMO. |
Surf Punks - My Beach
|
"The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust" Saul Williams
|
A current musician that doesn't get nearly the love he should is Martin Sexton. Amazing singer.
Good Albums are Black Sheep, Seeds, The American, Live at Central Park Have a safe trip. |
Anything by Bruce Springsteen or Bob Seger. Always in my car

album
It depends on the mood I'm in
Reflecting on my youth would be "Live Dead" recorded in Filmore in 69 or anything like that If it's a Blue mood it's Buddy Guy live at the Checkerboard Lounge in Chicago in the 60's Relaxing would be Essential Miles Davis |
Grand Funk Railroad
|
Johnny Cash "Live from Folsom Prison"
Screamin Jay Hawkins "Cow fingers and Mosquito pie" BB King "The best of BB King" Squirrel Nut Zippers "Perennial Favorites" Big Audio Dynamite "This is Big Audio Dynamite" Local bands are: The Spurs, The Cranktones, The Coachmen, Lovewhip, Babaloo Some of my local favorites from back in the 80's: The New Models, Face to Face, Private Lightening, Ministry (before Al Jurgenson's acid induced music), Adam Ant, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode (Before the bands depression phase). I was a true alternative / punk rock kid, but I love ALL types of music (except rap, which I don't consider music). |

Soooo many favs above, but most stuff you know of. And maybe I like Al's that acid induced music. Most of this has got to be stuff you know of though. Some no (bravo), most yes (but bravo still, because it is great stuff for the most part). I would have to say (for stuff you don't know or maybe should not know, ha ha) Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band (as well as with the Black Stockings and For Crying Out Loud), Blotto, Bebop Delux, Television, the Toasters, Wesley Willis (maybe you shouldn't, but a fav of Jello Biafra since Prof M mentioned Kenedys), and last but far from least (actually all you RI folks should know) the Amazing Royal Crowns. Don't even get me started on Punk and Jazz man! Because I will be throwing Nick Brignolla and Anti Heros and the likes at ya!!!! Music is life! (except when fishing is life).

|
Anything Ramones....Gabba Gabba Hey
"I Don't Wanna Be A Pinhead No More" |
In my CD player right now are:
Disturbed 3 Days Grace Chris Daughtry Evanessence Green Day |
wow so many people on this site listen to solid tunes! I too listen to all kinds of stuff and many times it seems to be weather dependent. Like as soon as it gets nice I have the urge to open windows and crank the Allman Brothers. Right now I have been on a big reggae kick and have been playing a lot of Peter Tosh, Bob Marley and Toots. Always have at least one dead disk, and one phish disk (or 3) in the player.
For a little different bluegrass try Old Crow Medicine Show. I also really like older REM. For those of you who like live stuff try nugs.net - even some great shows in the "free stash" section. That all said I NEVER listen to music while actually fishing, just to and from. |
Rodney Carrington is pretty funny if your looking for a laugh or two.

Oh- that no one knows?
Stormin Norman and Suzy - Ocean of Love (fun, torchy) Blind Boys of Alabama - Gospel Paul Butterfield Blues Band Al Kooper/Mike Bloomfield Super Sessions Joe Satriani double CD Old Laura Nyro with Patti Labelle - you won't be sorry.... This is great - it'll keep me busy for awhile....thanks! But never when fishing...I need to be at oneness with the all..... |
Here are a few more semi unknown I thought of last nite while I listened to them
Sea Level Les Dudek Steel Pulse Nickle Creek Cyrus Chestnut Andy Narell I like anything Bloomfield and Kooper did |
I'm beginning to think the professor and I are musical twins separated at birth, except for the lack of "unknown" Jersey stuff (but don't worry, I won't go there my New England bretheren). How's about the Unseen and the Seldom Seen. But be very careful of which is which. Maybe about one half of one percent would listen to both, and the others would be quite upset by one or both of these (hint hint, one is bluegrass and one is punk). Come on come on, more unkowns, more more more..... I love this stuff.
|
There's a guy from Hanson, Ma named Joe Merrick who makes some really great road trip music. Kinda similar to ABB. His sound ranges from rock to folk to country-ish stuff.

Fury And the Slaughterhouse

An old album I break out everyonce in a while check em out on youtube |
Seldom Scene are great. Unknown Jersey stuff. I don't get it. Over my head I guess, I am short. Smithereens are from Jersey i think if that is what you were eluding too. Oh well explain . I am kind of slow.
Let see unknown. Umm Danny Gatton is the greatest unknown guitarist ever as I have said many other times. Bluegrass - Del McCory is nice. New Grass Revival is great. That is where I first heard Bela Fleck play Anything Pat Metheny does. No one writes and arranges music like him. Nearly perfection IMO. Blues - John Bonnamassa is fantastic. Watermellon Slim is cool. Smokin Joe Kubeck Loud - Scott Henderson, Mattias Eklundh , Andy Timmons, Richie Kotzen , Greg Howe or both of them together, even better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8W0sH...eature=related Mike Stern, style all his own Dixie Dregs and anything Steve Morse has done or will ever do. I saw the Dixie Dregs many times long ago. Everything Larry Carlton has ever done. Jazz #1 all time fav. Kind of Blue - Miles Scott Whitfields Jazz Orchestra - great modern big band stuff Acoustic - I know no one has ever heard of these guys Andy Mckee and Don Ross Here is a great site I use to buy stuff from. You can find lots of unknowns here http://www.candyrat.com/default.aspx That should keep you busy for a while. When you digest those I will get some more. Don't forget to reciprocate. Jethro Tull is on the menu tonite at work. Where I work I can blast the tunes all nite so I am constantly searching for stuff. I luv to play stuff that I once listen too years ago but got away from. Bring back the memories. Have a good one. Paul |
Professor, I'm shocked to see you list Pulse. Nice call
Hendrix Band of Gypsies is a somewhat obscure incredible live show. If 60's were 90's also a great listen. Keith Richards first solo effort was a serious beatdown. Main Offender I think. |
Steel Pulse is fantastic. Probably my favorite Reggae band of all. I saw them twice. Great show even if you could barely see the stage from the mary jane smoke in the air. True Democracy is a great album.
|
Taj Mahal - Mo Roots
|
Lou Reed - Rock and Roll Animal
Early Bowie (i.e. Diamond Dogs, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars) Couple of Great Soundtracks - "The Commitments" or "The Last Waltz" |
Stereophonics:grins:
