Besides almost breaking my back @ 1 am this morning crawling out on my rock it was very productive for bass. 6 bass in the 30lb range and a friend lost a cow that took him into the rocks big. Blues showed up again at first light so we called it quits.

The fish seem super-powerful the past two weeks for some reason. Had a 30lber that fooled me into thinking she was at least 40 or so.

You guys to points south need not worry, they are coming.

I'm getting on a ferry this afternoon. What this means to those of you who aren't aware is the fishing will explode on the mainland shortly after my departure.I'll get a call tomorrow am from someone asking me WTF are you doing on an island when the fish are right here. Happens every time.:doh:

Between trips to MTK I did manage back to back 30 lb nights here in NJ..While most are scoring some keeper sized fish ..:D.MTK was not as good size wise for me.There where some nice fish takin.Like the one landed as we pulled up that was 40 and the 38 that was takin out of my footsteps just as I left one night..
Numbers wise the place was off the charts this yr.For example..One of the pinhookers who gets 225 tags per year used 70 all of last season.He has 12 left for this year..

'08 GANSETT REPORT THUS FAR- APRIL- GOOD to VGOOD, MAY- VGOOD, JUNE- FAIR to POOR for the sixth month, JULY- FAIR, AUGUST- GOOD, SEPT- FAIR to GOOD, OCTOBER thus far- GOOD. I've made 85 surf trips with 70 of them in Gansett. Lots of blues this month(oct) with 3 nice fish- 30, 37 and 40 pounds in gansett this month. Looking forward to next new moon. Hopefully weather will be good. One other point though, the bass fishing has been pretty good this fall but the disturbing thing is the lack of schoolies now as well as the entire year except for april and half of may. What's wrong.

I hope you are right BB, Mike.:bl: I took the tin boat out front of Sandy Neck at dawn all the way from Scorton Creek back to Barnstable Harbor all along the beach. Not a bird or a break. Nutin. Stopped every 300 yards and casted. Zilch. Usually very good along the beach this time of year. All I got was wet, as it was a little rough, and cold. Did manage 2 small keeper's 100' from the boat ramp. I also got some beautiful pictures up inside Barnstable as the tide allowed me to do some exploring.
I sure hope you are right about those fish headed down from Manomet. Do they still allow you to launch a small boat from White Horse beach anymore?

Well. until last nite HORRENDOUS...., I had caught 1 fish (bass and blues combined) since Oct 1st, but as as most people will hopelfully deduce from everything so far this yea, I try to be kinda humble about the lucky horseshoe Ive had up my arse this year and anyone that lives down my way, I caught the most amazin catch of my life that even topped my 51# this year. 42.5 inches and it weighed in at 39.75#.....the absolute most mongaloted fish i eva did have......like Slingah says; "its on like Donkey Kong........Cha ching $$$$$$$$$.

Fished once this whole weekend, schoolies on the back beach ( Thank you Don @ Afterhours, they would only eat your green/silver needlefish, do you know you can swim that thing in the right conditions?)

Did clean my area of the basement, everything cleaned, oiled, stored and all the plugs hung where they belong, I can find sh!t again and found stuff I couldn't since late May.

I think for the most part "fall fishing" got a real good name in the past with the late October fishing on the back side, Gansett, Block Island, vineyard, etc. The falls have been lackluster in these places in recent years, particularly the last five years or so. These places are really living on their past reputations as opposed to present,IMO.
Fishermen are kind of like Charlie Brown waiting for the great pumpkin to appear and of course he never does.....
With the above said though, a number of lesser known spots have produced extraordinarily well despite the general consensus that the fishing has been sub par overall in the “go to” places.

I couldn't believe my eyes, either. The fish looked like it swallowed a wine barrel when Mike slid it up on the sand. We just stood on the beach laughing our asses off in amazement. Couldn't quite figure what the weight was so I ran back to the parking lot over soft sand and grabbed my scale before I took off to go home. The fish pulled the scale way down, but had a real small head and tail. Looked like a largemouth bass with stripes.

you guys that don't see any schoolies, I've caught tons of them from the kayak this year. A dozen schoolies in an outing is not uncommon, with the average being at least 6.
they are bigger though, like around 24 inches or so, compared to the 12-20 inch ones we used to get in the spring by the ton

I think there is till plenty of time left..The fish seem to still be spread out, more like a early fall pattern as opposed to mid fall.
I still say the best is yet to come for you guys up there. After this moon the fish will really start to move.I hate the October Full in the middle of the month seems to mess things up..Anyways, I think You will find them in the more transient locals..perhaps for a night or two then gone.Keeping it honest is the hard part.Here today could very well be gone tomorrow..

I think it is over up here on the north shore. And hearing reports that Boston Harbor is getting thin. Talked with four other boaters out fishing this afternoon, and not a fish amongst us.... Only saw a single small pod of anchovies, no other bait to speak of. Local shore spot at night not much better. I'm going to haul the boat this weekend, so if there are to be any blitzes for me this year, they better be close to shore. Definitely the worst September/October I can remember.:cens:

The sharpies are still getting a few fish at first light including one in the mid-thirty# range yesterday but the bite is only on for a very short window of time. Absolutely the worst October I've seen ever. Still holding out hope though as the big mackerel are thick just North of here and some bigger bass will usually travel along with them.

No schoolies? I Saw acres of them this weekend and caught dozens of them. No peanut bunker this year so far though, which is surprising.

Redlite- Did you get a pic of that fatty? BB was telling me all about it.

May hang up the surf rods after last night and do dome toggin' too.

Most of the big bass are gone, IMO. Slowest night in over a month last night. Things were trending down the last two weeks, and nearly got the skunk last night.
Of course I'll monitor the places I frequent for a couple more weeks, but the 20# plus numbers are dwindling quickly...

I'm with you. Probably going to go out friday night if conditions look good, than hang it up as far as local action. I'm ready.

Think the wife is working 11/8 and 11/9 so I may do a commando to BI to end the season officially.

My uneducated guess is the big school that passed us a few weeks ago is in that area now.

minimal shorties for me last weekend in mass. one blitz at dawn that was way out of range. one or two more times monday/ tuesday next week and that's it. twins on board next april so.................. see you in 5 years.

Smalls to teen sized all over beaches down here, in tight no size. fly rod bass. Filling the cookie jar all week after 2 weeks vaca. back at it friday evening.

After a 2 week long run of mostly ditch schoolies I found the big bait and the bass this morning. Very fat fish in the wash up to 45" and 36lbs (using the /800 formula). They were there when I got there at 4:00 and had fairly consistant action until almost 7:00 when it slowed. Was so bright out I tried some Afterhours Seniors and did well on top in the moonlight... a first for me. :humpty:

Got my best of the night on an AH needle. All released except for a tubby 36" fish. Didn't spot another soul out there until I was leaving... No I wasn't at the ditch, but not that far from there either. :hihi:

Professor, if you were where I think you might have been, I may head down there tonight. I had a couple decent fish last week in the middle of the day on topwater plugs from shore.

Ran into some fish moving quickly at dusk on a beach south of Marshfield.
Gentleman up the beach from me got a good fish...20#s estimate. Some bait with them, but nothing showing.
Would have missed it if the gentleman didn't hook up when I arrived...
I got a schoolie out of it...fat.

Keep hearing that the fat lady is singing but I guess I am deaf!

Although the fishing has slowed the last 2 nights and the water temps are dropping fast, we are still picking up some good fish early mornings. This morning was not different with 2 good fish in the lower 30#s (late night) and a 3 in the low-mid 20#s around 6 am in heavy surf. We are still running into the occasional blue fish which tells me its to over yet.

Have a few freinds that are fishing to the north of me and they tell me while the fishing has slowed they are still beaching some in the 20-30# range.

Good luck you guys...theres still that chance!

Yes they still let you launch from Whitehorse beach, you dont even need a sticker! To do anything else in plymouth costs at least $100....suprised they havent started charging. Matter of time I guess.

I fish thru Thanksgiving. I remember in05 we took 24# fish on Nov 9th in RI.
I remember 03 (I Think) with Spence and RI Rockhound on The Block getting mid-teens the day AFTER Thanksgiving.

Re read your last statement. In these hard times you could be opening the door to company. There are many out there who search these boards for clues, though I am sure you may realize it now, you may have just tipped off a bunch of folks who do the leg work by sitting in front of a pc rather than doing it the hard way.

Food for thought. Though not specifically naming a spot, your close to it.
