God, I just remembered my Dad and my step-grandfather Harold making me a complete set-up for a Lionel train set on plywood that Pop painted and put the little trees and people on it and everything, it was pretty detailed, Pop did a beautiful job- big Christmas surprise for a 7 year old!
It had the log-loader and everything, nice transformer, two different engines and you could put the pellets in one of the engines to make it smoke...and the whole thing was on casters so it would slide under my bed. Man, I used to love that set-up, wish I had it today. Sorta got in trouble one time...... me and my cousin Richard got caught staging head-on train wrecks...:hihi: Pop wasn't real happy with me, either. "For Chrissakes, what the hell is wrong with that kid?" |
yeah..... and there was never a female version either
women didnt have operations.....just babies lol |
Chuck...that last line is priceless! I think we all heard that one!:hee:

Crafty there was this guy that lived across the street that was insane with model trains
i mean really wacky insane... he was like 7'4 inches tall and only weighed like 160 to 180 ...like a spider and he'd cruise the railroad tracks just to see them... he wore a train engineers hat most of the time.... he could take one step and you'd have to almost run to keep up... he walked with one hand out palm up always for his pet white rat to sit on and he went everywhere because when he walked ...you'd have to be on your bike..... to stay with him... or forget it... he was quite harmless but his train set up occupied the whole basement and it was done in such detail that it should be in the Smithsonian museum... it was every train lovers dream.... seeing it... |
Good morning Mrs. Bullock! Can Scott come out to play??:hihi:

I have an original Lionel O27 gauge train set from the early 60's all stored. It's ALL metal. 3 track rails. All the buildings to go with it too. Pristine condx. Needs a transformer only which was never affordable back them when it blew. They're everywhere now.

My fav toys and big christmas presents for me were star wars toys, I remember that if you collected the first 12 figures and sent in the proof of purchase, you got the Boba Fett figure free. Funny, these toys are still popular over 30 years later |
I had an AFX Change the lane, the one with no slot.
erector set, there was another one with clear globes and motor Rubiks cube |

Those were awesome.....greatest toy going....can't buy them anymore, they're "Too Dangerous" WTF :wall:.....what good is a toy if there isn't an element of danger |
Erector sets were the balls!!!

I had a bunch of those Star Wars figures and the space ships, X-wing fighters, etc... I remember pulling the arm off Luke Skywalker and telling everyone that Darth Vader cut it off with the light saber. I also had the Lincoln Logs, Legos, Rock Em' Sock Em's, the Evil Kenevil motorcycle and bus and half a garage filled with sporting goods. But the thing I liked playing with most was the little girl who lived diagonally across the street. She was so cute with her little white knee highs and pig tails. If I only had half a clue as to what I should have been doing. Oh, the good old days. |

another board game
|
Raven-I did a lot of growing up on my grandfathers farm. When the work was done and it was time to play you had to be pretty "inventive" when it came to toys. In fact anything and everything had potential of becoming a toy if you thought hard enough about it!
Maybe later I will enlighten you on my 101 things you can create with used bailing twine! (we werent allowed to "waste" the new twine but used twine was fair game):btu: |

My wife found that game in her mom's basement and brought it home for our 3 1/2 year old son. He loves it. Of course, he makes me set it up and then he just wants to set off the chain of events that puts the "rude mouses in jail". He gets so excited watching the whole thing. |
Broom sticks and old tennis balls we would find around the courts to play stickball, Dad's basketball, card games w/ std deck of cards, chess, Tinkertoys and Lego.
Must be why I am good at building things with whatever is available. :) My buddy's family was wealthy and he had the slot cars and cool stuff like that. My uncles had some trains, but we never had enough room to do a good layout. I still have my old 'N' gauge engine, cars & some track - whole layout fit on sheet of plywood that was 2' x 4' - sitting in my Dad's old Cardinal 7X box in the cellar. Hey any of you guys remember Eric Fuchs that use to be in Government Center in Boston? Lots of great stuff - dunno whatever became of them. Use to have another place called Hobbytown close to combat zone - that places had coolest models (plastic and balsa) and lots of RC stuff. TV - tubes in the back - letting off a ton of heat w/ that distinct glow. Didn't have to worry near as much about being molested, kidknapped or murdered like now a days. :( All this technology for what? Life was simpler and better back then IMHO. |

My Mother won it in a contest... i used to sail that thing everywhere in Buzzards BAY i'd love to have the "Hobie Adventure Island" as a go out and sail & fish - fun craft.... as i miss those days. But it's a huge investment ! not to mention the length is 16 feet...long... i like the retractable pontoons the best... it would be great to have netting across them and be able to slide a big ole Bass up there.... :uhuh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59yRv4UCZJM |
Anybody remember Stingray and Chopper Bicycles?
Stingrays had tha Banana seat and Choppers were the ones with the small front tire. |
