By this criteria.....I am the second best fisherman on here!!!:jump1: I was just looking for the insight of the many who hang out here as to their opinion of how the migration will go off this season! Last season it was over in like a week!!!:) Thanks for the responses guys!

JFigliuolo 09-23-2009 12:21 PM

I am predicting the migration will royally suck from the surf... IN GENERAL.

Some locations will fish well but they will be few and far between. It will be a right time and place situation.

Just my $.02

BigFish 09-23-2009 12:22 PM

Does seem another season where the large are staying off shore!!:smash:

the point 09-23-2009 01:12 PM

This is not true Bigfish. I've caught & released some biggens in the past couple days.(one tagged) Tonight I will be taking a break. But they are here brotha. Been pulling in 30lb class fish regurgitating sand eels as soon as the hit my rock.My good friend JakeF Has released some Biggens also, so there here and I think they are going to stick around for a while.:jump1:

JohnR 09-23-2009 01:24 PM

Ahhh, but herin lies the difference - BigFish's "Shore" is Far from the shore that "The Point" uses and there is the rub. They will be in different places and some places will be great and others suck. Changes year to year and day to day.

Islander77 09-23-2009 01:28 PM

My .02$

Judging from what I have seen myself as of late... If there is plentiful food source which there definitely is and the water temps hold and slow drop itll be a long fall... And just a word of advice.. There is no reason to fight over the internet.. Opinion are like colons every one has one and it stinks... I also am a new member to this site, And the statement Jakef made is why I dont participate regularly on other sites.. There are great places to fish from Florida to Maine were, when and how is your choice... But I have seen tons of sand eels, needle fish, bunker big and small, mullet, and silver sides.... all around so... I think its gonna be a long fall not a Late season so....

WESTPORTMAFIA 09-23-2009 01:50 PM

Yes some nice fish have showed and they are hungry for sure but we also know that they are on bait. The bait leaves so does the fish. Lets not count our chickens but cross fingers instead.

I've figured out, after 10 years at this, that there is no upside to talking about what you're catching on the internet.

Talk to me about general stuff, equipment, tactics, but don't look for catch reports.

There is nothing wrong with talking about fish caught. There is a problem with jealous people. That's the bottom line. What should be fun gets ruined from someone who owns the ocean. It shouldn't be this way.

The problem happens on opinion. Some people like to catch small fish and target that but those with the opinion of only large fish count might frown on that. Is the guy catching the small fish somehow wrong? I don't think so, some people do.

There are others that feel that every fish needs to be released. Again, an opinion, but one people have and sometimes will voice that. Me, I release 99 point something of what I catch, do I think people that keep fish are evil? No. Do some think I should release everything? Yup.

And it isn't only jealousy - though that does happen sometimes. Some people are just having a bad day or grumpy. And some things just don't translate on the Interblab. So the problem usually comes in on opinion and people's feelings on a particular subject and once people get over the fact that not everyone needs to agree with them it gets so much easier. What instead happens is that people of differencing opinion clash like the mighty warriors of the keyboard. And sometimes people simply don't explain themselves well or properly or simply have a bad day.

I applaud Jake for going out and finding fish. He did the other night what I tried and couldn't do. Land a worthy fish. Kuddos. I will simultaneously applaud him and dope slap myself for not going large.

But at the same time me, you, him, or nobody else for that matter "owns" the only valid perspective or opinion on what's right, wrong, or indifferent.

And then there is that typing under the influence thing too :buds:

Boat -v- Shore
Plugs -v- Bait
Fly -v- Everyone else :rotf2:

Ok, that was just my opinion...

BigFish 09-23-2009 03:23 PM

I have learned one thing and thats that people read their own agendas into every thread instead of really reading the initial thread and responding accordingly. This thread was not started as a way of finding catch reports, it was started to find an overall point of view in regards to when the fish might really start moving and to start some good hearted conversation......which brings me to the second thing I have learned......its tough to find any good hearted conversation about fishing on the interbet due to the influx of cyber fishing heros who think way too much of themselves. Its fishing kids.....its just that plain and that simple.....its fishing.:wall:

I like it! Nothing like sharing a great moment with your children!:uhuh:

Fish_Eye 09-23-2009 07:43 PM

I've been from Sakonnet to Fishers Island in the last two weeks and have gotten a Fish_Eye view of Sakonnet Point, Third Beach, Second Beach, Sheep Pen, Camorant Rock, Goosberry Island, Prices Neck, Seal Rock, Brenton Reef, Pt. Judith, Middle Wall, Weekapaug, Watch Hill and Fishers Island. Lots of albies, some pods of bluefish and bass mixed but no real wholesale movement of stripers yet.

It will come when they're ready and that weather will play a key role...as will bait. There's more rain bait around than I've seen in years, so they're fat and happy pigging out on tiny morsels.

Scup are everywhere as well, and in big schools.

I would like to see the march of the peanuts.

I was on BI for the last week and did'nt do/hear much out there either in the way of bass. Did catch a bunch of nice albies and bonito, plus a few world class scup.
In five nights, I landed 1 35" bass, lost 1 larger and caught the same 26" striper 12-15 times each night. My opinion is it's just getting ready to go...........

Al in Westport 09-25-2009 10:49 AM

It's been worse than slow for me fishing the Westport area.

Even Big Fish plugs are failing me. :fury: :biglaugh: Just kidding Larry!

Went out this morning... some "choppy".

Al

Moses 09-25-2009 01:02 PM

Hit the canal a few early mornings this week. Each day progressively saw more bait and top water action. I even got rid of the jinx and caught a couple small keepers and big bluefish.

Amount of bait I'm seeing is amazing. Small herring, pogies and macks, all in the 4-6" range. Tuna don't prowl the canal unless bait is prevalent.

With all the N/NW/NE winds, we'll start seeing some more consistent action (topwater too I hope) in the coming week. Lets hope it starts tonite because I'm heading out for an all nighter.
