nice bass aqua's and the mack darter too
|
I see a Wiglet, lots of Creek Chubs, a Troublemaker Surfster, lots of Gibbs poppers, darters, pencils, Atoms, some Beachmasters.........alot of cool stuff!

[QUOTE=numbskull;726555]That isn't a lure collection in the back ground....that is my fishing rotation. This is a "lure collection"....or a part of it. Lots of beaters. For fun, see what you can identify.
/QUOTE] George, Are those Arbogast Dashers with the propellars? Years ago when needles were hard to come by I would reverse those to make a needle. Took off the props and added a little lead. They worked. DZ |

Yup. 2 are wood dashers, the green one is plastic. Keep planning to make one to try for bass on a full moon. Fished them a lot (primarily for bluefish) as a kid.
Here is most of the stuff I actively fish. |

more. These days I try to stick with the stuff I build and the stuff given me.....just because it adds a little something to each fish I catch (to make up for the size deficency plugs entail). Lots of great commercial wood and plastic stuff out there that works as well or better.

Looks like Santa's elves have been busy. |

More to the point, how the hell did we go from a boga thread to looking at Numbskull's antique collection? |
Love the 60 but it is big and I only carry it on trips that I don't need to worry about carrying to much or times when I'm pretty certain I'm going to go large. I see no use for the 60 in a yak.

Numbskulls collection deserves its own thread!
maybe he had a few pops after his turkey sandwich and decided to start showing us his awesome collection.... |

As for showing off, lots of guys have much more and much higher quality. More a case of pulling out the de-liar, getting nostalgic, and deciding to liven things up. It's meant to be more about plugs than about me. Also motivation for me (and hopefully others) to start building some more. |

errr, ahem, this is still a hijack, plain and simple... |
Yeah but its my thread and it is authorized by me! Speaking of "building more" I heard there was a "mini plug quilloquium" in a south shore town yesterday! Some folks are gearing up!!:uhuh:
|
what a thread! bogas, grape smugglers, plugs....
|
I am BigFish......and I authorized this thread!:rotf2:

I have a 60 and its 5 or 6 years old now. I never wash it off or take care of it. I test it a few times a year for accuracy and its always dead on. Carry it on a zinger on your belt and clip the gripper part on a caribiner so it crosses your back. One of the best pieces of gear you can buy. All I carry on my belt is a knife, pliers and boga, the weight never bothered me. Get the 60 boga so you can release those 40#ers!

Numbskull... are those Masterlure eelie repros made by you. I made one last year but did not get a chance to fish it yet. What has been your experience fishing the ML eelie design? |
The medium version (soft maple) is a dead on copy and fishes very well....particularly by day from the boat. It tends to run sub-surface and suspend. The larger version is a freelance plug made of AYC (somewhere there is a thread that shows how I weighted it...it stays on top) and it has become a midsummer "go-to" plug when I'm fishing quiet water. Plenty of nights it outfishes whatever else I'm carrying. They cast much better than you would think.
Big Fish, Afterhours, and Tatoo also make sweet jointed eels. I've found it more beneficial to carry a jointed eel instead of an "extra" danny or needle (I always carry at least one danny/donny and several needles) whenever conditions are right. The plug I've not done well with (none are hanging but I've got several) is the BM/Pichney jointed eely. Not sure why, they look great, but I think the thinness of the masterlure and the slower wag make it better for how I fish. |

I thought we were talking about Bogas and their use on kayaks.
I just use this to clip the jaws to; KayakFishingStuff.com: Stainless Steel Deck Loop And one of these for the handle end; KayakFishingStuff.com: Rubber Paddle Clip (1) |
This thread is covering it all!! I love it!:uhuh:

Yep, learned some things I want to know (and a few I don't - grape smugglers :rotf2: ) |
Exactly what Toby said - thanks Toby!
I've had the same retractor for 5 years now, it stopped working about halfway through this season. Time for something new... |

Here is a close up of that wooden ruler nobody but me thought was cool. Check out the bag limits. Remember when waiting for that third Sat in april was more exciting than Christmas?
|
It is cool in a slide rule in the computer age sorta-kinda way. Problem is that much like engineers should need to learn the slide rule before the easy 'puter, we need to have more people understanding and adhering to the regulations before they go fishing (OK. a little bumpy but work with me here).
|
Lip gripper/scale is at the top of my list for new equipment for next season. I'll be using it on the kayak and in the surf.
Lots of good input here. Think I might go with the 30lb. Boga. Expensive but from the reviews I've read it might be worth the extra money I've got a digital scale in the pack for anything bigger than 30lbs.. |

Finally got around to taking a picture of how my 60# Boga mounts on my belt.
|
thats a pretty sweet idea when you get to your spot you just let it hang? or do you just unclip it whenever u need it? my parents got me the 30# i will probably just carry it on a d-ring with a lanyard. that setup would be sweet for long walks or if ur swimming

If I am moving between spots, the jaws clip on the belt to avoid it thumping around as I go. One REALLY nice aspect of having it on the lanyard is you can actually let go of your fish after it is unhooked and the strength of the retractor keeps sufficient tension on the Boga jaws to keep ahold of the fish. This alows you the freedom to tend to your rod, lure, etc... before you take steps to release the fish. It is nice when swimming to a spot not to have it "phantom bump" your legs. Scared myself a few times last season using the old telephone cord set up. |
Such a nice set up... i have experienced similar tangles with the telephone cord type leash...
