You have to visit this web site prior going to the show this weekend. Seven or eight different clips available. I am getting more excited than the nephews. Avatar Official Movie Website | In Cinemas December 18

Has this whole board flipped over this movie except BigFish? Larry has gone on the record saying: "Looks pretty bad to me! I predict a box office disaster! I will have to take a big time pass on this one! Special effects look pretty....lousy!"

Maybe we should take up a collection to buy his ticket so he doesn't miss out on this experience. One that he is sure to regret.........

Jenn 12-17-2009 06:22 PM

yep we are going to see it too...oh cant wait!

Funny, seems to be a lot of interest in this movie. I know it was going to be popular, but this popular? Impressive.

The Critics Panned "Raiders of the Lost Ark" too....like anybody listens to them.

eastendlu 12-18-2009 09:16 AM

I heard initial reviews from people that saw it last night at midnight said that its great.:uhuh: some went with the same assumption as Larry that its overblown they came out raving about it and said they were glad they went.

tynan19 12-18-2009 09:19 AM

Count my family in as well. My friend went to the midnight 3D last night and couldn't stop telling me about it. I had to shut him up this morning.

Now I really am having second thoughts that this will be a blockbuster: the early reviews since release are coming in TOO GOOD!

Maybe one of the MEGA-blockbusters..........

BasicPatrick 12-18-2009 02:33 PM

For me to go to a movie theatre is more rare than an Audobom volunteer runing over a Piping Plover :devil2:

The last two movies I saw in a theatre were The Perfect Storm and Good Will Hunting :jump1:

The last two movies I thought lived up to their pre hype were Heat (DeNiro and Pacino first time) and Raging Bull :uhuh:

I saw a review on TV this morning that says Avatar is not going to live up to the hype and that tells me it might. :grins:

For me...it looks like a chick flick combined with a video game....YYYYUUUUCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK:yak5::yak5:

I wont say definately not but it will take a lot of raving from people who are not just conforming to popuar society:gh:

Swimmer 12-18-2009 03:03 PM

Hey Victoria's Secret is coming out with a new lingerie line to compliment what they see as all the rage in the near future about what goes on behind closed doors with your favorite avatar.

Those reviews you posted do not bode well for the movie? Sounds pretty "Ishtar" to me? If its in 3-D I would never see it no matter how good it is.....3-D does not agree with my eyes!

Raven 12-18-2009 05:44 PM

i really only go when there are panoramic views involved

CNN Reviews Avatar:

Review: 'Avatar' delivers on the hype

(CNN) -- James Cameron has done it again.

For maybe the third time in his career, the immodest Canadian has made "the most expensive movie ever," confident that showmanship never goes out of style.

He was right about "Terminator 2," and he was right about "Titanic," and at this stage it looks more than likely he'll be proved right about "Avatar," too.

Already it feels like an epochal movie, a landmark fantasy film on par with "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Star Wars" and "The Lord of the Rings."

Like those (very different) movies, "Avatar" stretches the bounds of the cinematic imagination. It shows us something we've never seen before: an entire alien world, a new and complex ecosystem rendered in three dimensions with dazzling fluidity and detail.

I just got back from the 12pm showing. Whatever I write here will do no justice to this movie. One word.........CLASSIC! I didn't watch it in 3D and was still blown away. My kid was mesmorized and it went by real fast for an almost 3hr flick. I would never suggest bringing a kid to a 3 hr movie but we were both glued. I'm in awe and SERIOUSLY would see this again. Go see it!

BigFish 12-19-2009 04:14 PM

Liar!:fury:

The Dad Fisherman 12-19-2009 06:08 PM

I went and saw it today and Was equally Blown away....saw it at the Jordan's IMAX....Unbelievable movie. My son loved it too.....

The Visuals were amazing...and there was substance to it.

striperman36 12-19-2009 07:43 PM

The Alien Romance scenes were the best,

PRBuzz 12-19-2009 08:03 PM

If you Twitter check out the Avatar tweets, coming in faster than 1/sec and all raving about the moving. Seems to be a world-wide response with the various languages appearing.

Alot of substance! Story line was great and really got to the core of humanity. Cameron really hones in on the human nature. I may need to go see this again.

Estimates have Avatar opening at about 27 million dollars this weekend.......far short of expectations....much less enough to win a certain wager? Ain't even within earshot of top 100 all time openings! You guys better get out there to see it!:uhuh:

I like swimmers!:) I like the Tinman!

Larry, 27 million was Friday's Total...not including Saturday and Sunday...it estimated at around 80 million for the weekend.

'Avatar' Blasts Off on Opening Day - Box Office Mojo

Granted...not enough to win the bet...but that would be enough to be the #1 December opening weekend ...EVER...Not what I would call a Bomb

But we shall see what happens come Monday when they release the final numbers

What were the terms of the bet you guys made? This movie should have some legs to it as well. I'm sure it will be in the movies a few months but what do I know.

fishaholic18 12-20-2009 11:00 AM

I went to see it Friday night...I wasn't too impressed...Kinda bored me..Way too long for what it was...The special effects were ok...GI Joe was much better though.....The mind transfer thing was kinda cool...I want to be the Clammer some day...:fury:

BigFish 12-20-2009 11:06 AM

Yup! Just for Friday! Estimates are at $60 mil. Maybe less given the snow storm.....but most psychos would brave the elements anyway so no loss there. I would not think that is a very successful weekend for a big budget movie like this?:devil2:

There is a guy I like!:)

Bet was it had to make top 10 all time opening weekends! It won't!

Saltheart 12-20-2009 11:18 AM

I think you need to go two weekends on the bet do to the snow!!! :biglaugh:
We seem to be OK here but the central east coast (Virginia through Nj and NY ) got hammered. I bet there isn't a quarter of the people from the big population centers who have gone yest do to the snow.
