Hi,
My name is John. I was born in Hartford, CT in 19 and 54.Spent the first 28 years of my life living in N. CT and W. Mass. Lived in Upstate NY for 8 yrs. and central PA for 4. I currently reside in Indiana. I started SW fishing when I was 9. My dad would take me striper fishing, live lining herring off CT beaches in May.
When I got my drivers license I started surf and jetty fishing in RI and Cape Cod.
I'm in sales and marketing to pay the bills, and I make plugs, tie flies, build rods, fish and play a little golf to have fun.
I'm married and have 3 daughters in college.

my name is Christian. im 16 years old im in the 10th grade. i live in Boston , specificly West Roxbury. ive been surf fishing for as long as i can remember. i also make plugs. i dont sell but i am sure some day i will. i am just about to begin my first rod so i geuss ill put down rod building too. i also like to pick bikes out of the trash and fix them, like those old 3 speeds and stuff. i also do some spearfishing too. i dont have a boat so basically all of my fishing is from shore. my friends do have boats and i do fish with them a bunch. i am also into party boats targeting cod. i caught my first and pool fish at age 13. the areas I fish are Boston Harbor( and areas around there Quincy, hull, islands, winthrop), Plum Island, Duxbury, the vinyard, and occasionally (York) Maine. i wouldnt say i get out as much as i like in the summer, i normally fish at least two days a week. hopefully ill be able to do more this summer.

Got Stripers 02-26-2003 04:27 PM

My name is Bob, or GS depending on the event:). Married for 22 years, 3 boys; 1 sorta grown up:(, 1 thinks he's grown up:( and one who seems to has a clue. I've been fishing since I was a kid and always had a tie to the ocean; my true love. In Jr/Sr High School I'd spend some time fishing the local ponds and streams, but I spent almost every free moment (weather permitting) out on my trapeeze on my International 110. It's a 24 foot long 4 foot wide banana with a 300lb keel, planning hull, goes like a bastard, oversized surf board, damn fun boat to sail kind of thing. So much so I even refurbished a second one after getting married and had fun with that for a few years. Then I bought me a Tracker V-17 and started fishing seriously. First at the freshwater club and federation in tournament level with some success, but I always had my hand into stripers around my hometown of Scituate Mass.

After 5 years I decided the tournaments were cutting into my striper fishing and put all my free time into my striped bass and bluefish fishing. Got involved with pouring my own plastics a long, long time ago to save costs on the fishing and also to design my own baits. As most regulars here know, I've gone commercial with my baits and have a full range of striper baits from 4 inch jerkbaits, up to 13" monsters. From straight jerks, to swim baits and curly tail grubs. There is enough cross over to appeal to everything from crappie to tuna. Click the link on the home page if your interested in taking a look, many good articles on my site as well, along with some unique rigging and presentation methods.

Took the trophy hunting seriously for a number of years. Got a 52 & 55 lb striper, a 9-2 largemouth, 6-2 smallie, 6-5 pickeral, 13 bonefish and some others, but I really fish for fun and action now. I'm long since given up the all night cow fishing, although you might still find me out there under the cover of darkness. I like passing on my knowledge to others and really enjoy getting out fishing with some of my new S-B friends.

Ok I'm rambling, tight lines.

dondkim 02-26-2003 05:23 PM

My name is Don Kim and almost 63 yrs old, still married to my former fiance, five children (three married and two to go, two girls' wedding took away all my reserve for fishing gear), two grand children and two more underway this spring.

I am a former opera singer and Tae Kwon Do master. I was trained at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and lived many years in Massachusetts. I introduced Tae Kwon Do to New England in 1965 and I taught many schools and taught Navy boys at Fargo Building in Downtown Boston.

Now Real Estate broker for a national company in Manhattan.

I have been coming to the Cape since 1966 and my frequent visit to Falmouth for Tae Kwon Do promotion test for my students lead me into fishing.

I try to fish Fridays and Saturdays every other week on the Cape during fishing season and fish day and night non-stop for two weeks during my summer vacation in Chatham every year.

I mainly fish Chatham and Monomoy.

I fly fish when weather is good and baitcasting and spinn fishing when weather is bad.:o :p

Jenn 02-26-2003 05:50 PM

ok...names Jenn :D  live in western mass. or should I say too far from the Cape???:D starting fishing (for stripers) w/ my dad on family vacations when I was about 3!! but the teenage rebellion came along and didnt get back into it for myself until about 5 or six years ago. love snowmobiling, shooting, outdoors...and many more things that I could mention...but I wont...;)

it will be ten years w/ hubby this year....3 of which we have been married (HOW TIME FLIES!!!) no kids no cats no dogs...and thats the way we like it!;)

I no expert at fishin but I sure am having fun...and always try to keep an open mind and keep learning. one of the few things in my life that I am really driven by and those feelings just keep getting stronger!

Canalratt1 02-26-2003 07:27 PM

Hi My name is Tony but most people around the Ditch call me Canalratt. I have been fishing and hunting the South Shore and Cape for over 30 years but I'm still a youngster. I have been on this site since the beginning and make a few appearances now and then. Good guys here and we do help the rookies out just don't ask a million questions...;)

Scotch Bonnet 02-26-2003 07:43 PM

Name is Chris, I live in Charlestown(RI) with my wife and 2 kids. I've been in the produce business for 19 yrs:( . I moved to South County 12 yrs ago and discovered surf-fishing. I fish mainly the Breachways and Narragansett and last year purchased my first boat(21 ft CarolinaSkiff). I prefer to surfcast in the spring and fall and use the boat during the summer. I really enjoy this site because having 2 young children I'm not able to get out on the water as much as I used to, but being on here keeps me in the loop. I've met some good people and had the good fortune to fish with a couple of them. Lots of useful information here and some very knowledgable fisherpeople.

RockLobsta 02-26-2003 07:50 PM

Hey All, name is Jim and I am from Needham. Grew up not far from here always had a thing for the water. Spent many summers on the charles river fishing for carp and whatever was bite'n. I still fish out of the same boat and sometimes the same river. Looking to upgrade the boat this year if all goes well.

Spend most of my time in Gloucester and rockport fishing and diving. Just really kicked into high gear this past year with the fishing, up till then mostly diving. Had a super year catching stripers and Blues. My friend and I placed 7th overall in a tournament up in Gloucester last year. Not too bad for rookies.
I started fishing Boston Harbor this year and watched my wife catch her first blue fish!! Pretty exciting for me, not sure about her feelings....

Married 17 yrs, one son (17) who has not quite gotten the bug but I'm workin on him. He did catch his first Striper this year but has also discoved girls! Not sure who'll take priority this year...

Have worked in the computer field for the last six years or so. On my own last year and a half. Hopefully this economy will turn around eh?

Look forward to meeting some of you folks out there this year. Great site with alot of info......

Hi All,
My name is Jim (seems like there's alot of Jim's here)....I found the site this summer and have been a "reader not a writer".

Married with 3 kids (9,6,2) + a niece in college.....all girls, which is why I need to fish more!

Spent most of my summers in Green Harbor, MA. and have fishing the whole area (Dux beach & bay to North River) for 20+ years. Had a 19' Mako as a kid but prefer the surf.

In-laws have a place in Dennis, so I try to get out when I get on Cape.

Haven't really fished the Canal more than 1 or 2 times but hope to do so more this year.

Job is in TV.....FSNNE.

I've really enjoyed reading the threads on this site and have picked up a thing or two (Sometimes it pays to listen).

Hope to get to meet some of your this year!

hello people, i'm ed, eddie, edzo and a few others i'm sure i've been called over the years. 47 single/the big D in 90. 13yr.old son who likes to fish with his dad when he can fit it in his busy schedule. i'm a construction worker currently at pilgrim nuclear power station here in ply. you don't need headlamps when fishing with me,they say i glow in the dark!! i've always been the outdoor type fishing and camping my favs. started fresh water fishing in my early teens, mostly largemouth till i met my mentor and later best friend in early 80's.he was older than i by 10yrs.and a fanatical striper and blues fisherman by boat. we were partners for over ten yrs. till he got sick and just couldn't handle it any more.i always lived on or near the ocean in ma. rexhame bch, green habbah, brant rock,to name a few, and wet a few lines in the surf there taking some nice fish.kinda got away from fishing for quite a while.just got back into it 2yrs.ago and i really missed it cause now i'm the fanatic. last year i fished almost every day or evening except for maybe a couple times all season. to me there is nothing better than to watch the glow off the water at sunrise. my best days are on or at the waters edge!!!

Yo to y'all,

I am Joseph Tien. I am a deaf 19 years who just begun fishing last March 2002 on the Solomon Pond behind my school and Ashland Resevior with my pals. After catching my first 19 inches largemouth bass, I became mentallity obessed with fishing and my WHOLE family think that I am a loon. Why? They had to pick me up at a late time and I arrived home late. Plus, I always carry an excessive load with me, which made me look like an ass. I keep catching 1-4 largemouthies in an hour or two at Crystal Lake. Then I decided to challgenge myself to saltwater fishing. It was a sheet! But I persisted. I asked Capt. Jason Colby for advices and he got fed up with me and threatned to charge me $70 an hour for further inquries. Damn, don't mess with that man.

I caught a few schoolie-sized stripers at Back River. Rick from the Fore River B&T, was the best dealer because he knew how to sign a little and was generous and informative to his cutomers. That man knows how to run his business well. He is like an "after-school father" to me.

Then I sought an aid and tutlage from my therapist's (ADHD and depression, it's a long story. I will tell you about it when we go fishing together) friend, Adam Bolonsky. Man, that man knows the place in MA. This guy led me to my first keeper (the one you disagreed on it) in Rockport! And also Phil Klug from the Stoddard's.

I am a Martial artist and a liondancer. I do a little of Muay Thai (Damn, I need to exercise more). I learnt Malaysian (Mudea Mude Siliat), Penjnck Siliat (Indoensian style), JKD (Bruce Lee), Shooto, Wing Chun, and Kali. I study Wah Lum stlye and Hung Gar (an hybrid one, my uncle Kai combined it with Choy Li Fut, Jow Ga, and TKD).

I like to read comic books and to draw, but I like to fish, fish, fish, and to fish.

I am a student at Gallaudet University now.

I haven't tested all of the water in MA. I am learning how to fish better now. Of course, with your aids, then I will be a better one. There are many methods I want to experiment. I would like to test mysaelf on the Cape Cod water, Quincy Bay, and Boston Harbor. I want to try RI and Connecticut on the boat and shore.
And again, my parents think that I am nuts, but glad that I didn't turn to porno stuffs anymore :D .

Another thing, my dad is concerned about me making our family fat because I keep catching fishes all the time. Any remedy to that?

I hope to become an Amauter Muay Thai fighter someday.

Bazza 02-26-2003 10:36 PM

Hi my name is Barry,
I am 40, married 11 years, 2 kids a boy 9 and a girl 4, I am a teacher. I grew up fresh water fishing and started to get into salt water fishing about 6 or 7 years ago. I fish from the surf most of the time. I fish the cape, canal, Boston harbor some..This year I hope to try the north shore and RI some. Last year I started to fly fish and tie my own flies. I am still trying to complete my first batch at making plugs. I also belong to MSBA . I've learned alot from the people on this site and MSBA, thanks to ALL. Thanks again to John for all the work you do to keep this site up and running.

Notaro 02-26-2003 10:38 PM

Barry, I fish off the North Shore (Rockport). I will take you there in May or summer. PM me whenever you want to go fishing. Or better, send me an email to this address, it's a two-way pager, JosephTien@wyndtell.com.

RickBomba 02-26-2003 11:02 PM

Hi Guys,
My name is Rick, I own a small restaurant in Needham and live in Medway.
I love to cook (good thing) and got to meet lots of people through our get together a couple of weeks ago.
I have a brother who looks like me and is absolutely crazy. Usually I fish with him. I also tote him around as an assistant; he can be quite handy and very funny. Good thing for the problem kids of Springfield, as he is their adjustment counselor. Lately he has been working on Chris L.
Anyhow, I fish Cape in Spring, Rockport in Summer, Rhody in fall. As I work all the time, and am married, and an insomniac sleepwalker, fishing is a very convenient pastime for me.
Curently seeking therapy for the sleepwalking thing, most experts say don't sleep, keep fishing and I will feel better. I am very confident in their advice.
I love the boards, and everybody affiliated with them. If anybody messes with John or BM or Specialist or nightfighter I will sick my brother and Chris on them to subdue them with bad fish rapping and 80's metal.
Seriously, you guys are loads of fun and take up most of my spare time.
Later,
Rick:happy: :smash:

Notaro 02-26-2003 11:28 PM

rick, i live in newton. i live on the winchester street, part of newton highlands. so we are practically neighbor. and man, i gotta go one of your restaurant. we cld fish together, man.

my name is mike and i am a 29 yr old carpenter from weymouth, ma. i have been fishing for as long as i can remember. my father used to take me flounder fishing at the hingham shipyard and we spent quite a bit of time sweetwater fishing at various south shore ponds. he used to tell me that the striped bass were wiped out. i believed him til about 5-6 yrs ago when a buddy of mine insisted i go down to the back river with him. i caught a striper that day and have been hooked since.

Mike P 02-27-2003 07:50 AM

Another Mike, I'll be 50 on my next birthday. Got reared in surf fishing early on by my dad, struck out on my own after he died 22 years ago. Used to bass commercially back in the day. Born in Pawtucket, and family still has a summer shack in South Plymouth. Most of my early fishing was the Canal and the Cape beaches. Now exiled to Eastern LI. I have two kids, soon to be 10 and 13. They live with their Mom. Recently remarried and the new bride is a math teacher and a fly "fisherperson".

Charter member of the Lepers with Canalrat1.

One time internet head-butter, now mostly the old sage who lets the youngsters do the flaming while I sit on the edge and egg them on :D

And yes, for those who don't know, I am Ditch Jigger on SOL.

SeaWolf 02-27-2003 08:52 AM

from parts unknown, weight unknown...

hi, i'm seawolf. not to be affiliated w/ the seawolfe tackle company. i chose this name before i made that realization. been around these boards since most were created. i remember the old wmi days and those great wars. i miss those days... i've been known for a good battle or 2 on these boards and i'm not afraid to state my point or feelings on an issue.

been fishing since my old man thought i'd like the sea and be able to handle it. sold the boat and since i have learned to fish the surf. never looked back! still fish from the boat from time to time mostly for fluke, fly fishing for speedsters, and for stripers. my primary passion is the surf. if you can find me, i'm usually fishing the south shore of rhody at anytime except winter. i do a little fw fishing in the spring and summer and some ice fishing in the winter. i don't hunt, but i get all the tails from my friends.

i'm also a rod builder. been doing that for many years. i do this both commerically and for myself. there isn't much i don't do. i tie flies, jigs, rigs, pour lead, etc.

Plug 02-27-2003 10:47 AM

My name Jose Jimanez... (not really)

Boy if that doesn't date me.

I'm Hugh and I'm from Delaware. I'm known as "Plug" here and other places on the web. I mostly lurk here because of the colloquial nature of the board but think it's a great site with a fine bunch of guys.

I make my bread managing a grain elevator but my calling in life is to be a minister of the Gospel and a church pastor. I'm 47 years old and have been married for 26 very happy years and have four children.

I've been an outdoors person all my life and enjoy hunting deer, turkeys, ducks, geese and doves with traditional archery equipment and shotgun. However fishing has always been the pursuit that winds my clock and I am happiest standing on the end of a wave washed jetty, on a coal black night, with water all around me and a million stars overhead, whilst casting plugs, jigs or rigged eels into the ocean for rockfish.

STEVE IN MASS 02-27-2003 11:23 AM

Hey, Plug, good to see ya stop by again!....:) You gonna get up here to fish this year?

fishweewee 02-27-2003 11:24 AM

Hi Plug! :D

Plug 02-27-2003 11:36 AM

lookin forward to it Steve.

too little time... too many responsibilities... too many places I want to fish...

sometimes I think rather than Thomas my middle initial stands for Too
:(

but I'm coming north this year

hey fishwhizz

Jamie M 02-27-2003 12:32 PM

My name is Jamie, and I've lived in Connecticut my entire life. No one in my family ever liked to go fishing, but we did go camping occasionally. One year at the campground, when I was 7, I was hanging out at a fishing pond watching kids catch bluegills. I told my Dad it looked like fun, so he bought me a little Zebco outfit. Five minutes later, I hooked a 4-pound largemouth, and I was hooked.

We lived near Long Island Sound, so I naturally progressed to fishing for stripers and blues. Turned it up a notch with my good friend Marc Z a few years ago.

I split my time 50/50 between boat and shore. Since my wife (of 6 months) and I building a house this fall, the boat will likely have to go. Looking forward to spending more nights at the beach.

schoolie monster 02-27-2003 03:56 PM

My name is Greg. I'm pretty sure I'm 33 but I don't have my license handy... I've been married over 7 years and now have 3 beautiful daughters... one 5 year old who could out-negotiate Johnny Cochran and two new (should be) one month old twins. Hopefully, they will be sleeping enough by May to allow some fishing time. Otherwise, my wife's gonna be yellin' at me alot.

I got my business degree at Penn State (HOME OF THE NITTANY LIONS!!), but switched to an IT career in the Financial Affairs office at Boston U a couple years ago... a little web stuff, some desktop support, etc. Much more my style.

Enjoy spending time with the family, workin' around the house and yard. When I find the time, I love to workout and practice a little martial arts (not quite to Notaro's level. I thought of offering to get together with Notaro to fish, workout, etc. but I know the difference between sparring and getting beat up ). :smash:

Unfortunately, I like to eat about as much as workout. Sometimes more.

Fishing has always been a huge part of me. I grew up in Western PA and fished for bass and trout with my dad, uncle and cousins. All artificials for bass. Garden hackle for trout (aka worms), some flies. Lots of camping trips, etc. My mother's side of the family had roots in Mass and we vacationed in Nantucket several times when I was growing up. I got into quite a few bluefish blitzes on those trips and even caught a nice 24lb striper one year.

Moved to Quincy, MA (now in Weymouth) in '94 after school and only fished on vacations, etc. I really was missing something and I had no idea what fishing opportunities were around. I met John R in '97 and we discussed some fishing. The next season we fished as often as we could and my saltwater obsession has snowballed since. I cut my teeth eelin' with John and it was all surf until the past couple seasons. After one season in an aluminum bass boat, I bought a 17' center console last year. I mostly just fished light tackle and artificials in Boston Harbor this past year. I'd like to work on my live bait fishing for bigger fish this year, but I'm usually pretty happy to just to get out there and get a few fish.

Over the past 3 years, I've also become a bit psycho over fishing down in Florida for redfish, snook, trout, etc. Haven't targeted tarpon yet. The sight fishing on the flats really appeals to me and I even brought it into my striper fishing last year in Nantucket and even Boston Harbor. I could work a flat all day.

This is a fantastic site with some really cool people. I knew and learned alot from John and Fisherwoman/Baitcaster before it started, and since I have been turned into a bit of a plastic nut by Got Stripers. I haven't been able to take advantage of all the site has to offer (get togethers, reel maintenance), but I really enjoy the on-line friendships here. I encourage people to participate, 'cause these are some of the nicest darn people you could meet. Just outright generous people.

kenny 02-27-2003 04:50 PM

hi to all my name is Kenny. I'm 45 years old, I striper fish every weekend during the season maybe a few week days when I can.
I keep the boat at Hewitts Cove in HinghamMA. Fish from Boston to bouy. Enjoy top water days and rubber jigs.
Been married for 26 years have 2 grown sons.Am self employed in the construction trades
Give me a shout on 69 somtime

Bobbike 02-27-2003 05:01 PM

Hello everybody I'm fishing person and my name is Bob. :D
I mostly surf cast but have been known to step on a boat every now and then. I do most all aspects of surf fishing, Live bait, chunks, plugs, lures and I just purchased my first Fly Rod and reel last season. I also tie my own flies (see post"fly swap")
Anyway, I'm a member of MSBA, I'm 53, and live in Weymouth, Ma. I fish mostly south shore areas to include the Cape and RI (love that lil state)

OK, I guess I have to give a little history about myself.

Well, I’ve been an active member, supporter and participant for organizations such as the IGFA, LIBBA, NYSFF, RFA, SCA and NYFTTA.
In addition, I’ve traveled extensively to seek out many elusive fishes that tug the end of my line. I’ve fished throughout most part of the United States and other countries such as South America (Brazil), Central America (Nicaragua and Honduras), Mexico (Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, Cozumel and Mazatlan) and the Canadian borders.

I’ve also been cited in many publications such as the Newsday, Daily News, The New York Post, NY Times, The Fisherman, NorEast, Offshore and the SaltWater Sportsmen.

All in all, during the process, I’ve been very fortunate to be able to meet and fish with many national and international fishing celebrities throughout the globe which am honored and humbled to call them my personal friends.

My interest lies in big game, surfcasting, bottom & wreck, Extreme, Kayak, flycasting, light tackle and freshwater fishing… With strong emphasis on chasing those bottom dwellers and the elusive stripers.

Furthermore, I am a field tester for several fishing products and fortunate to be able to spend many days on the water enjoying what I do best. The previous years, I’ve been able to log over 265 days a year on the water and this year is no exception.

I was born in Hong Kong, raised in Brazil and for the past 30 years now a proud citizen of this great United States!

With nearly 40 years of fishing experience, my goal is to promote this wonderful sport to the best of my ability and get as many new comers to partake in this wonderful sport. Its all part of giving back with great hopes that this sport will endure as long as our body of waters exists.

Now that I’ve bored you with my credentials… Can we talk fish? :)

Name is Russ--Live in Granby, Ct./Southwick,Ma.Was married 30 years-divorced. Still friends with ex. Close to son--fish together etc. We all live within 6 miles.Seriously started saltwater 3 years ago. Almost entirely Rhody south shore. Strictly surf-fisherman.Don't do the overnight thing--have to leave here at 2:30 A.M. to get there at false dawn. Not driving myself crazy looking for trophies----enjoy the company and conversation with people of like interests.
Would like to thank John for the site and the effort he puts into it!!!!! I've been all over the internet and this is the best saltwater site---by far. And maybe not so coincidently, the best people seem to dwell here. :)
