Kinda hard to tell what we got here in West Mansfield, the drifts are up to 3' and some lulls about 10" I'd guess we got about 14-17":smash:Got the driveway and trucks all cleaned out.....Now off to work,it's gonna be a late day:wall:

RIROCKHOUND 12-27-2010 08:35 AM

8" or so in So Co. changed to froze rain/rain last night.
Wind woke me up several times. Gusts close to 50.

Beetle, you guys are showing 4ft of storm surge in that area, not including waves. good luck. should stay dry once the wind turns N and then NW

Buoy S of ACK is 27ft, UNH buoy is 22ft and the Bank is 23ft

we got about the same, 14-17" but had mixed precip, no real 3' drifts, the stuff is stiff and heavy. surprised none of the trees came down some are hanging real low.

HESH2 12-27-2010 08:54 AM

southern ct right now maybe 10'' where i'm at but had winds up to 60 mph so snow blew every which way.still snowing hard and hopefully will end early afternoon.roads on interstates and local are all pretty much packed snow and ice because of winds.

Saltheart 12-27-2010 09:14 AM

Seen much worse but definitely significant, we got a lot at my house. I would say the 16 or so reported by SM36 is about the same here but we do have some drifts. Oh well , another winter has really started now.

I strategically aligned the cars in the drivesway so the Blazer can be used if the plow guy is delayed a day or two. He's a good guy but sometimes the conditions make it hard to get everywhere quickly. I tell him now that its only me at home and since I have the Blazer he should just worry about his other people and get me when he can. I'll be out when I want to be , one way or another. The Blazer is as good in the snow as it is on the beach sand , just go the opposite way with the tirepressure and it digs in and goes. I do 16 to 18 PSI on the sand but 42 in the snow, works well.

Heavy gusts as usual do to house location. I'm almost at the top of the hill between Abbot Run Valley and Blackstone Vally. Only 100 feet elevation but the wind really blows allong the two valleys and of course over the top.

We have no snow now but radar shows we are still in the area where bands will come through. I think 18 by the time it all moves out this afternoon. Good news is warm temps at end of week so we should have bare pavement soon. Living in New England , bare pavement in just a few days is pretty good as real storms go.

Saltheart 12-27-2010 10:11 AM

Just got done digging out. That snow is wind packed! Its not wet at all here but its like someone tamped it all down. Thats a solid 15 or so probably be 20 if the wind hadn't packed it down hard.

Raider Ronnie 12-27-2010 10:57 AM

As of 11:00 this morning 23 hrs in my truck.
Snow tapered off but with this wind and the drifts it causes won't be going home for a while.
Tired !

striperman36 12-27-2010 11:27 AM

no power the the impeller. gonna be diggin

Slingah 12-27-2010 11:31 AM

thankfully, we got hardly anything here in Marshfield....

BasicPatrick 12-27-2010 12:25 PM

Monday 12 noon in Hyannis we have less snow on the ground than before the snow....nasty wind but no snow removal needed. I have a truck with two snowblowers and two operators with no work to do....bummer

PRBuzz 12-27-2010 01:11 PM

Channel 7 reporting Brockton got 23"! All I know is that most of the time the snow was at or above the chute opening of my snow blower.

You got wasted Buzz!

It was like light cement. I had adjust my impeller belt, halfway through, Going to get another this week

No fishing this week.

PRBuzz 12-27-2010 02:02 PM

Bottom inch or so was slush and as soon as you removed the top snow, if you didn't scrape the slush it froze solid within minutes. The snow plow banks having had the snow turn upside down were pretty tough to get through, many 3+' high and at least 4' wide at the base.

Glad I got a 10HP, 2 stage blower!

BigFish 12-27-2010 02:10 PM

About 13 inches in Hanover! First 5 inches was snow...then a changeover last night for a couple hours....then another 6 inches on top of the wet slush.........was like a slush sandwich this morning and damn heavy to shovel! My neighbors were having a tough time with it in the snowblowers.......slush was clogging in the chute! We lucked out and had a neighbor with a friend with a plow come by and do most of the driveway!!! Thank goodness! Lost power last night for about 90 minutes so not too bad!!

striperman36 12-27-2010 02:18 PM

I got the mixed precip here in Mansfield to, looked about 1030pm to be over, however, we seemed to have gotten another 6 inches after that.

striperman36 12-27-2010 03:35 PM

Look at that vortex !
http://www.nnvl.noaa.gov/images/high...-GOES-Snow.jpg

striperman36 12-27-2010 03:37 PM

Above was GOES-13 taken at 1650Z 12-27-10 or 1150 today.

Geez, see the expanse of snow on the ground from GA. to Canada.

UserRemoved1 12-27-2010 06:15 PM

seen the vortex on the mid day news. Looked like a hurricane!

tattoobob 12-27-2010 06:46 PM

I just don't understand why the news had to be on for over 12 hours
It's not like we never got 10 inches of snow before

striperman36 12-27-2010 07:07 PM

Because Congress is on vacation and Barry is living large on Kaui

And there is absolutely nothing goin on, except for that amazing stuff in Scituate.

JackK 12-27-2010 09:37 PM

i can't really tell how much snow we really got here because of the
winds redistributing it,,, blizzard snow flakes are quite small

Got Stripers 12-28-2010 12:02 PM

I feel left out, didn't get 1/8" of snow on the water in Plymouth and I had the snow blower ready for some work.

alot of people are travelling for the holiday. This storm came a t a bad time for the holidays and people needed to plan. We have a bunch of plans with family and friends that had to be cancelled. I think we got close to 20" in mansfield, as others reported, heavily packed drifts. As of this morning, the roads where still awful.

piemma 12-28-2010 12:31 PM

It's New England. It's December. What!! You didn't expect this!.
Come on, I've seen worst storms that were not even forecast. This was a blip on the radar screen. No big deal.

Now the Blizzard of 78, that was a storm. 54" of snow in Burrillville. 14 foot drifts. They plowed my road after 4 days with a road grader and a 10 foot V-plow. Plus we had 18" on the ground from a storm 3 days before.

Yeah!!!
I was in Lake Placid in 77, 127 continuous hours of snow, April 1st.
48" of snow in the woods near the house.
We had school during that storm

Well said. That's a storm. Not this little dusting. Hell, I was all dug out and cleaned up by 6:00 AM yesterday, I had maybe 12-14" with some 3 foot drifts. Not even in the top 50 storms I have seen up here.

The season is still young. The Pacific is very active. let's not ask for more than we can handle.

95-96 was was the worst year I can remember, I have a child to prove it.

I remember that year. I was working a consulting gig in Chicago. Got stuck there for about 10 days. Every time O'Hare would open, the East Coast would close. O'Hare closes and the East Coast opened up.

I finally said the hell with it and rented a car and drove home. If I hadn't been working I wouldn't have hung on that long but I was getting paid plus stayng at The Drake and had a $100/day per diem for food and drink so life was good.

At least we aren't out some place this week, that's good money and the Drake too.

likwid 12-28-2010 03:50 PM

Crane coming this morning to put up the trusses. Snow slowed us up a bit. I'll post some pics later today.

SNOWMAGEDDON

THAT is a freikin snow storm.

The storm was over-rated. They suck but we have all (mostly) seen far worse.

We had 8 or so in Warwick. A bit more in some other locations I've gone too for clients.

I do love Rendell's quotes about doing calculus in the head while walking to the game.
