niko 07-11-2012 04:50 PM

that was a good size shark. i've reeled in a few tarpon heads in the keys. one trip we lost 3 huge tarpon in a row and we just said screw it and put out a few live jacks and got some nice bulls and a scary big hammerhead

chefchris401 07-11-2012 06:01 PM

Got some killer info and some gear coming to me next week and a prototype century shark rod to test out.

I also have a kayak I'll bring if needed.

sounds like we got a good crew for this. kids - bring them if you want. my kid wants in but i prob wont bring him on the 28th as it will be a late night. maybe we should do a kids trip for them. parking -we need some but some of us can meet up and cut down on cars if need be - maybe at gloustas. tackle - bring what you want for rods. i've got a chitload of terminal tackle for sharks and i'll tie up a bunch of different leaders. some for casting and some that will need to be yakked out. bait -we'll put a bunch of different stuff out - fresh macks, bluefish, pogie and eel. i'll bring a bucket of chum. we could use some glowsticks if anyone has any

chefchris401 07-11-2012 09:34 PM

Got some great info from a couple great surf shark guys :)

I would go to chatham. Although I will NOT be kayaking the baits through the surf!

Oh, better bring a 130.

MarshCappa 07-12-2012 09:18 AM

That video was awesome!!! I love her shrieks!!

did a trial run last night and went 1 for 2. ended up fishing a spot w/o an inlet, my first spot was all weeded up. got one on the beach around 60 lbs and pulled the hook on another. used a baitrunner 6500 and a stout surf chunking rod. handled the first fish well and held it's own on the other one. leader setup was ok, though my 7 foot leaders might be a little short for a bigger fish. the second fish beat up the 4' section of 130# flouro pretty good. we are on for next sat night the 28th. still need to pick a beach that can handle us. we still need a kayaker if we can get one - ive got a couple of tuna spinning setups that will be fun for this but impossible to cast.

bart 07-21-2012 12:17 PM

very cool!

tlapinski 07-21-2012 12:18 PM

What is the set up on the terminal end? Hooks, leader etc.?

chefchris401 07-21-2012 12:33 PM

I have a kayak if needed.

I also got in this morning a penn 12/0 spooled with 150lb Dacron and a prototype century fighting rod. Should be able to tame whatever we run into.

Nice work niko, too bad I missed out. Stupid truck

chris i could have used you - damn thing wanted to eat me, what a pia to unhook. for terminal setup - a 10/0 hook haywire twisted to 3-4' of 278# wire, to a swivel to a 3-4' section of 130#flouro with a fishfinder rig on it, to another swivel to the braid. but if we have a yak i'll use a wire and cable style rig like i use in the boat, just a little shorter - like 6' of wire and 6' of cable. at least if we get a bigger one on that rig we'll have a better chance if landing it

Rob Rockcrawler 07-21-2012 01:30 PM

i was waiting for this report, glad ya got one.

had everything ready to go. leaders are all set. and have that fighting reel/rod ready to go too.

trying to get everything lined up for next saturday again, need to figure out my work schedule, have two guys out for vacation and other just had has first kid 3 days ago, going to make it work one way or the other.

niko 07-21-2012 07:08 PM

could use a few suggestions on locations. looking for an outflow next to a beach with some parking. trunk river looked interesting but looked pretty rocky on google earth. anyone know if the area has alot of boulders? a wide open beach would be best.

lamigsb1 07-21-2012 08:20 PM

South cape. Bit of a walk to the outflow though

Didn't have a chance to smoke it last night. By the time I got home from the Vineyard after stopping for dinner, I was beat. Put the kid to bed, had a drink and fell asleep in a chair watching tv. I'm definitely looking forward to it, maybe tonight. Thanks again!

I was hoping to be in for this but I got friends coming to Eastham next weekend. I have always wanted to do this at the Nauset cut in Eastham. But I will probably be able to secure some bluefish Saturday morning if someone wants them let me know

anyone know how far the outlet for waquoit is from south cape beach? is overnight parking cool for scb. the other option seems to be trunk river. anyone have a usefull opinion either way? winds look light for the weekend

jettyjockey18 07-23-2012 08:25 PM

bataan death march...i fished scb week ago saturday night...no joy, beach was crowded...

niko 07-24-2012 12:01 PM

Death march doesnt sound fun

numbskull 07-24-2012 12:37 PM

The classic area to do this is S Cape Beach. It is large and there is plenty of room to fish. The Waquoit entrance is probably 1/2-3/4 mile down but it empties through very long jetties so you would not be fishing any outflow and I doubt it is worth the full walk to shark fish. I do not know what the parking situation is but I assume it is open at night (whether the Town lot or State lot I don't know).

Trunk river is, by comparison, a much smaller scale place. It is open at night, but the outflow is tiny (think 2-3 feet across and a few inches deep). Probably sharks prowl both places but I suspect your chances for a fish are better at S Cape. I have never done it so I am not sure.

niko 07-24-2012 01:30 PM

is it crazy to try and do poppy? the place has very limited parking. out of the other 2 choices scb sounds like a better choice. who's really coming. do we have few enough guys to sneak into poppy

fishbones 07-24-2012 01:36 PM

I'm in. I just need to figure out if I have the right gear for it.

rickhern 07-24-2012 03:25 PM

Going to try to make it. If I can, should I bring the kayak to drop some baits out?

niko 07-24-2012 04:11 PM

bring the yak rick. it only increases our chances. we need some fresh dead eels and some other misc fresh baits - if anyone is fishing friday and gets any pogies, macks, blues. put them on ice

WESTPORTMAFIA 07-24-2012 04:36 PM

I'm in
