Upper BB temps dropped about 3 degrees from early in the week, so yesterday was very tough fishing, in fact I was lucky to get these three with so few fish marked. Said hello to Big Fish Larry and his friend Chris on the way out, as they were heading in after a tough morning. Early spring I like the incoming, which I hope is bringing in some fresh fish, but not so yesterday.

Couple smashes here an there.....

Higgie 05-29-2018 03:56 PM

The best thing that could happen is the canal has a slow year or at least any pushes happen during the week.

Nice CT river fish. Took a pencil in barely any water. She completely inhaled the pencil which made for an impossible release.

Herring in various states of decomposition and roe. It is tough seeing those fish go belly up after giving them fish CPR for five or more minutes.

Is that you I see every morning just North of the ramp on the West bank?

Rmarsh 05-31-2018 05:02 AM

The wind was blowing us off our drift, and I thought it was going to be necessary to deploy the new drift chute I picked up for this season.
Never got a chance as the sea bass were aggressive and hitting as soon as the jigs were lowered.
Had a good laugh...watching her battle a nice 23"....thought she was going to ask for help.

She boated it and said "I think its bigger than yours"
I replied "Well maybe just an inch or two"....

I pulled a herring out of this one's mouth before I released her. They are eating well this year. Even though the herring numbers are way down from 20-30 years ago, This is the strongest number as far as herring entering the fish lift in 14 years.

Popped the yak into my inside BB spot and 20 minutes later had a limit of sea bass. Fished another couple hours for fun and a chance maybe some fluke had moved in, then home to the filet table.

You're killing it on the kayak!

Aside from stripers, my vacuum sealer works harder now, than it ever did fishing out of the CC.

Inside B.B. this morning in pea soup and limit on sea bass in about ten casts, man are they thick and lots of big males, took a friend in his yak to experience some fast fishing and good eating (he’s a freshwater guy).

Uploaded pics of my old friend who normally avoids the salt in his sit in, but due to the conditions expected, I convinced him he'd have a ball and go home with five tasty fish. Conditions were perfect for him, although leaning over to land one nice fish after the other does still present some challenge in a sit in.

Great pics all. I have to say many of those stripers are looking like the old days of thick cows especially the first pic in the first post. Either the old gene pool has resurfaced or some of these cows are feeding really well. Thanks for sharing!
