As disgusting as it was, why isn't this snowflakish?

Sea Dangles 11-05-2018 10:33 AM

In my opinion this has nothing to do with politics, just poor judgement.

because a snowflake is someone who is upset that someone else disagrees with them. when snowflakes at uconn needed counseling to deal with the fact that Ben Shapiro was invited to speak, thatbwas stupid, because Shapiro wasn’t insulting any of them directly.

SNL put on national TV, the photo of a fellow citizen, a real person, and mocked his appearance, which he cannot help.

Snowflakes get upset for no reason. This isnt that, and i’m pretty sure you know that.

Jim, snowflake doesn't have a real meaning, the point is just to be petty and immature, that's why it's used.

PaulS 11-05-2018 10:55 AM

So is it ok when Thrump says Collins (a NY Times op ed writer) has the face of a dog or something similiar or mocks that fat woman he doesn't like

wikipedia...

"Snowflake as a slang term involves the derogatory usage of the word snowflake to refer to a person. Its meaning may include a person perceived by others to have an inflated sense of uniqueness or an unwarranted sense of entitlement, or to be over-emotional, easily offended, and unable to deal with opposing opinions."

if you call a snowflake a snowflake and they begin to cry or otherwise emote...I'd say it has real meaning and is probably in line to be banned as a term of verbal violence

rosie attacks trump mercilessly, which is fine. so while it’s bad when trump makes fun of her, it’s not quite as disgusting as this, because this former seal hasn’t done anything to this comedian.

although if his dad was killed in 9/11 maybe that’s why he’s such a jerk. anybody could be ruined by that. but someone should tell him thatbthe seal was seriously wounded, trying to get justice for his father.

Did you just assume the gender of, and body shame, that horizontally Challenged person?

1 is the Pres. of the US and the other is a comedian who may have mental issues (which there has been news reports for some time prior to this about). I didn't know his father died in 9 11.

It is not something you or I would say but that is what comedians do. Some jokes are funny, some fall flat, some insult, some they wish they prob. didn't say.

Let's face it...SNL hasn't been funny in quite some time.
Because of that they tend to pull the "off-colored humor" card out of their comedy vault and try to stir up viewership by insulting them.

Remember the adage "You can say good things or you can say bad things about me, but just keep talking about me"?

They don't really care about the integrity level or the intelligence level of their material, as long as it "stirs the pot" and makes people comment.

I'm not thin-skinned, and can take a joke like anyone else, but there has to be a line where they cross over to bad taste and this is one of those times.

It clearly is one of those times, but to link that to a shadow liberal agenda to discredit his candidacy or devalue veterans is a similarly bad taste line to draw

they do? show me other comedians who show pictures of wounded vets, and then make fun of the injuries they received in combat? i haven’t heard of this.

and if he’s that cruel and deranged, in addition to not being funny, why does NBC employ him?

also this week, an MSNBC crew set up at a polling station, and all their gear was set up
in a handicapped parking spot. a wounded vet could not park, asked them to move, and they said no because they were ready to broadcast.

bad optics.

Crenshaw, however, said an apology from Davidson and NBC "won't mean anything to me."

"I do think that in today's culture and today's politics we tend to throw rocks at each other back and forth demanding apologies for every upset that is done to us," he said. "What they should do is maybe pool their money together and donate to some veterans’ charities out there that could really use some help."

But maybe the comedian will say, like someone else: “I didn’t say that, You better read it again.”

Meaghan Kelly was let go from NBC because she said some insensitive things on the air. Maybe NBC should release him from his contract as well. Apply the same standard across the board. They DID set the precedent.

worse than bad optics - rude.

JohnR 11-05-2018 05:55 PM

He was making fun of a wounded vet. Kinda pathetic actually.

As a country, we tend to put vets on a pedestal and do too much hero worship, they are not all heroes - though heroes walk among them. But they are pretty solid people when compared to the general populace. But it was stupid.

Crenshaw had the last laugh though when he said he doesn't mind the joke - he just wish it was actually funny.

Snowflakes are because each one is unique and they are all special, particularly in mom's basement.

Question
I haven’t watch SNL in years (hasn’t been anyone on there I would waste my time staying up late to watch it since Dana Carey in my opinion.
Was Alec Baldwin on or is he still locked up for punching the guy over a parking spot ?

Just saw the Joke wow its no where as horrible as some are saying it is was. I agree it a pathetic attempt at a joke..

The response from the right to once again decry the lack of civility and demand this guys removal and once again use a Veteran in a liberal outrage campaign on social media is classic

Mean while back at the white house Trump keeps lying labeling peoples as enemies ...lying his ass about the caravan claiming voter fraud again and the right remains silent an unfazed ...

PS all you saying SLN isn't funny ... you sound like your parents they thought the same thing when SLN was represented by your generation ... and theirs was turned into SLN archives

Is this any different from the Meghan Kelly situation? Other than the fact that she actually LOST her job.

I don't think either should actually lose their job, people say stupid crap all the time (cough, cough, political forum, cough). nobody should lose their livelyhood because of it.

please explain specifically, how it was different from what someone said it was. can’t wait to hear it.

they put his photo in national tv, and they LAUGHED AT WHAT HIS WOUND LOOKED LIKE, then dismissed his sacrifice as “ whatever”.

what the hell is wrong with you?

Would Trumplicans have had an issue if he said "I like people who weren't blown up"?
No support for the person who lost their father in the largest terrorist attack, but plenty for the draft dodger con man.
At least that kid has some excuse for his behavior.

one more time...how was the joke different, than people led you to believe?

trump? he has something to do with this? i hated whatbtrump saud about McCain, i can’t believe that didn’t disqualify him.

i’d imagine this comedian is a deeply troubled kid. i feel sorry for him now that i know about his dad. fair enough?

Pete is obviously blessed with ample time to obsess over Trump. These may not end up being his most productive 8 years but good for him,he is trying to make a difference. Don’t forget to take time to vote for the tranny up in the green mountain state Pete! You can get that bathroom issue resolved.

We'll see what, if anything Mueller says on Wednesday, might be advantageous for him to come out with it before Trump dumps Sessions.
Hopefully, we are smart enough to not subject ourselves to 6 more years of Don the Con.

Everyone in other states is pretty excited about that candidate, reminds me of the screaming about gay marriage.

Bathroom issue was resolved in Vt already.

Pretty simple and inexpensive to put Restroom signs on single user restrooms instead of Men or Women

Sea Dangles 11-06-2018 12:33 PM

Pete,I took advantage of the search buttons. When I say you are obsessed I am not just saying.you actually used to be on the board for a number of reasons which I find surprising. I see you posted about fishing until about ‘12,almost nothing political. That changed almost two years ago when something spurred interest in S-B.com again. Thank You for coming back and making a difference. Slow it down and change up your interests. This obsession seems unhealthy in a lot of ways. Funny the way Trump influences you to do this but hey, Spence took a timeout after the election to lick his wounds so there is no snowflake handbook apparently.

I used to drive to the coast every other weekend April thru November, right until deer season, now I golf, dream of saltwater and youth.
That was when I made the mistake of looking at the political forum.
It actually has more give and take and less name calling than almost any other political social media discussion.
Good thing or I wouldn't be here. Hmmm?
Hopefully for all of us I am wrong about Trump, but I don't think so.
I did see Kasich testing the waters the past couple of days about a third party, the next couple of years could be interesting.

I don't think we need a third party, other than how it will peel off others and allow one of the major parties to win with less than 50%. We need a moderate in the center that can pull from the middle.- But does that person primary anymore?

With both sides running to the edges it's gonna be difficult

or allow a single voice of a SLN comic to influence my view of others. Like you do.. As for his dismissal of his sacrifice it is a reflection of him (the comic) not liberals .. no matter how hard you try to make the connection
