The Iceman 6 02-12-2002 03:15 PM

52 - 53 - it's all ballbearings...

The Iceman 6 02-12-2002 03:16 PM

Whatta ya need a refresher course?

GBOUTDOORS 02-12-2002 03:17 PM

Iceman6 GB it is and always has been. Now what kind of rods and what reels? I like penns myself but they are not to popular these days. Back in the 70s they where the best of the best.

The Iceman 6 02-12-2002 03:20 PM

GB, have Custom wrap Penns' 10 fter and 8 fter. Have Penn 704, 4400, 5500, 8500, and the new I think 5600L - the bigger Liveliner reel - love it.... Have little 7 ft' schoolie pole, I want something that can throw up to 1 or 1.5 oz jig, sick action, light as hell, can cast a mile, do you know of such a pole, I'm thinking getting steelhead pole and use it for mr. stripah???

ICe

GBOUTDOORS 02-12-2002 03:23 PM

Spin or conv. reel on that rod??

The Iceman 6 02-12-2002 03:25 PM

GB, Spin Spin Spin, that's all I use.... Will most likely put 4400, 5500 or Liveliner on the pole...

GBOUTDOORS 02-12-2002 03:27 PM

Glad to see that there are a few out there that still like the Penns. I looked at the baitrunner the other day at Bucos and liked it . Thinking of getting one as I do not have any baitrunners at this time have always used conv. for bait. How long have you had it??:)

GBOUTDOORS 02-12-2002 03:28 PM

Looks like a good reason to get a new rod and reel! :D

The Iceman 6 02-12-2002 03:29 PM

Got it last year around want to say August - used it for the fall run with 30lb Fire - took a 35lber from Cape in September - no complaints with reel - real smooth, love the baitrunner feature as I mostly fish eels @ night - still too early to tell but I got it as a gift so no complaints here.....

chris L 02-12-2002 03:31 PM

blue becareful what you wish for ! my wife and everyone I know say that one of me is way more than enough ! I couldnt even imagine another like me . My 6 brothers and 2 sisters arent even like me in the least .

The Iceman 6 02-12-2002 03:32 PM

GB, you never answered my schoolie pole question, i have pretty high criteria...

GBOUTDOORS 02-12-2002 03:33 PM

Sorry iceman but I have to go for a few minutes. One of my customers just called and he wants to start a house in Fairhaven tomorrow and needs the lumber out there in the am. No plans just go down and measure up the foundation and go from there!!Yea right guess thats what I like about this job you never know. SEE YA on54

The Iceman 6 02-12-2002 03:37 PM

GB, no problem, Fair Haven as in New Haven - that's where I grew up? Are we talking the same Haven? Could use a Pepe's pizza right now....

Ice

bloocrab 02-12-2002 03:45 PM

BAMMM!!!! ......ya just got Cross-checked ICE!! :D

bloocrab 02-12-2002 03:47 PM

.....your off base a little .....ICE.........Fairhaven isn't in Conn.....well not the FairHaven....GBs' talkin bout......its a 20 minuter boatride to the famous Cuttyhunk Island.....

AnthonyN 02-12-2002 03:48 PM

Hey ice what about a St. Croix TS70MHF Inshore for schoolies? Pair that with a Shimano Stradic 4000 and you have a killer schoolie combo!!!!!!!!! The rod handles from 1/2 to 1 1/2oz 10 to 20lb line 7ft with a fast action MH.

What do you think?

bloocrab 02-12-2002 03:50 PM

Wish I could hang out fellas.......

Duty calls......I'm off to bring my Godchild to skating class!

.....Iceman should appreciate that...:D

AnthonyN 02-12-2002 03:51 PM

catch ya later bloo!

AnthonyN 02-12-2002 03:56 PM

That combo I metioned above would be perfect IMO lets see what others come up with as well but the St. Croix Inshore TS70MHF paired with a Shimano Stradic 4000 can't be beat for the price!

JohnR 02-12-2002 03:58 PM

BAMMM!!!! to Bloo "Emirill" Crab... Cross - checked LMAO...

Ice - yer scaring me with yer hockey, you playing with these guys or dreamin' about it? That's what Liam is going to play when he's older ;) - hockey

I know what you mean about Gwenyth being the best V-Day gift you could ever get your wife. Liam was the same for TheBetterHalf last year but this year I gotts ta produce  ... Wait until she's a few months older, even more fun and less outright fear that you'll drop her on her head or something...

GB - It's not that the Penns are out of favor these days. It's more that they aren't the only affordable game in town anymore. They also have not exactly been at the forefront of the technological advancement of the reel in recent years. But they do work and most of the models are pretty solid...

New Haven, that's like 20 minutes from the famous Leetes Islands, right? Sorry, I'll take Cuttyhunk :D :D :D

GBOUTDOORS 02-12-2002 04:31 PM

Ice if you are looking for a real light rig and some great fun try the one I bought last year at Bucos it a ST.CROIX 7' lite power mod-fast action scII graphite BEN DOERR SURF SYSTEM/ss70L and I put a Shimano 4000fg on it. This rig is so light you feel like your not holding a rod and reel at all. Great for schoolies and (small blues).See John I do have some reels other than Penns also the 5000fg on a 8' BEN DOERR SURF

GBOUTDOORS 02-12-2002 04:34 PM

Thats it I leave for an hour and every one comes and goes or is it me:eek: Do I stink that bad today????

Saltheart 02-12-2002 04:37 PM

Hey whats the poo poo on New haven fishing? I believe the biggest striper caught anywhere in the last 10 years was from New Haven harbor??

redcrbbr 02-12-2002 04:40 PM

GBOUTDOORS 02-12-2002 04:41 PM

GBOUTDOORS 02-12-2002 04:45 PM

redcrbbr 02-12-2002 04:57 PM

GBOUTDOORS 02-12-2002 05:45 PM

That was the best duck hunting spot on the east coast 30 years ago you would have to duck ha ha ha and get out of the way as the flock would come down from up north. I spent alot of nights trying to get my waders dried out in time for the next morn. hunt back then.
