Maybe 4-6 months ... I cringe at the though of 4 years from now (unless I hit Powerball)

Probably not a public number so I can PM you a more specific $ (and if people are seriously interested they can ask too). For general sake, last year was more than $1500 and less than 3K in actual costs... Not taking into any account any labor. I've offset some of the costs with advertising & site sponsorship (I'm really cheap and I'm sure I could get more :wall: :hihi: ), these fundraisers are huge (the S-B Too Friekin' Cold Nite last year paid the lion's share of 03's bills). Some other web work I've done over the years paid the costs too. At first I ran this thing almost entirely out of pocket. So in addition to paying the bills out of my pocket in the old days, I did some more sites with the proceeds supporting this site.

Because of last year's fundraisers I did not need to put any of "my" money into running the site and that's good seeing that I've been laid off since May :( ... Yes, I would like to make some money on the site to help pay for my fishing but I don't want to run it as something that needs to pay my mortgage and put food on the table. I don't want an online tackle shop as I think the business model is not for me. I have something in mind - NOT ONLINE TACKLE - that in a couple years could be somewhat complimentary but not selling bait or tackle or rods or stuff. We have some pretty good sponsors and we'll probably sign a few more down the road ( I don't want to saturate these boards or any particular area with sponsors - and we only get the good ones). I have no need or want to compete head to head with the people you see now. I don't want to do a "pay site" like some have mentioned. I think that really limits the openess of a site.

IMO, this site kicks ass for a lot of reasons; we have pretty cool & knowledgable members, we have energenic new members and people new to the sport, people contribute plugs & prizes to our free tourneys, people don't cheat in the tourneys :btu: , people bring food and a good time when we have our little get-togethers, people meet from the site and become friends, I know I've met a ton of great people I never would have met otherwise and learned stuff that I might have learned later or never at all. Everyone pitches in so much in many different ways that it defines a "community". Some sites have tackle shops or popup adds, some places are magazine places, and a few, like S-B and I'll pick on FFSW for a moment :p , keep the lights on with fundraisers & sponsorships and the like. Where the members often contribute in some way to support this site, I think that's one of the key reasons this site is as open as it is...

Sorry for falling a little off topic and spilling at the mouth :) ... Getting back to the topic at hand, if we continue to grow at a reasonable rate, these costs will still go up a bit too. I don't think we need to grow REAL fast or hard or that we even want to. And no deisre to be the biggest or even among the biggest. The only "advertising" S-B actually does is a booth at the MSBA show every spring. No adds in the maggies or online. Ooops, more spillage, OK - I'll shut up now :laughs:

I have met 2 people so far who have won the 1 million MA scratch ticket...it ain't a ton but after tax it is about 35K per year for 20 years....that would keep my tanks full :D
