Any of the islanders, Cooper Gilkes, for one, Dr. Post, another, simply for his perspective on fishing the Vineyard, not his catching ability. Some of the up-islanders that I used to run into years ago when I fished by myself, and would come across certain people coming out of certain dirt roads at odd hours.

There are people that I fish with now that I wish I could've fished the back beaches with during the glory days.
I fish rocks 90% of the time, but my love for fishing started on the sand.

Also my good friend Greg Zeek. I fish with him out of the boat, but would love to have hit the surf with him locally and out on the Block. No doubt that would've been wild :ss:

There is a guy who works on the gol course I work at who is a starter. His name is Jack Wilson. He is 85 years old and started the beach buggy association way back in the day on cape cod. He used to fish from Brewster to race point every summer and live on the beach eating beans am fresh shore caught fluke. His association built sand dunes using snow fencing. He tells tons of great stories and has several fish over 50 and two fish in the 60's, primarily on plugs. I would have loved to see the undeveloped un touch land scape And fishery at the time.

Charlie Soares. I bet you get an incredible history lesson fishing with him.

piemma 03-19-2015 04:42 PM

So it's 10 years since the start of this thread. As you get older you look back and reflect on, not who you caught the most fish with but, who you had the most fun with. After all is said and done this should be about having a good time.

Here is my list:

Clammer who has mooned every living soul on th Bay but is my Fluke and BSB guru, my old surf partner RIRockhound who I spent hundered of hours with from Narrow River the Watch Hill, Back Beach and Tony O at the canal, John Habs (God rest his soul) at Fresh Pond Rock, Quonny and the Block. Steve Mckenna at Frenchmans Reef. Al Pellini at NR and the Block. He who cannot be mentioned, on the Bay and at Napatree in late November. Toby at Watch Hill Light oh so long ago. A lot of guys who have gone to the beach in the sky like Gil Guillitone, Chet Tomkins, Gene Ayotte, Lanny Grazini Dave Hammock, Charlie Murat.

I am past the age of wanting to fish with "the greybeards", I am one of them. About 50 years in the surf and boat with a couple off for the service and I wouldn't change a thing. Probably another 10 left in these old legs and then hang it up. But I still look forward to every year like I was 16.

For me, it is block island Jeff ... @ southwest point after 8 beers at yellow kittens.

My dad.... a lot of things I wish I could do with him now, at this point in life.... and ask him why I could never go on those Swordfish Tournaments.....

And Flaptail.... I really wish I had gotten to know him more. The few times we spoke he was a wealth of history and knowledge that he gladly shared.

Capesams too,,, old fart. Still breathing. Maybe. Someday.

Clammer 03-19-2015 08:29 PM

New (to you) wheels, Clammer? Got your message while in a meeting - will call later

Raider Ronnie 03-20-2015 04:24 PM

Call me crazy.
I could care less about fishing with any of these guys / legends mentioned.
My choice over anyone is fishing with my 2 sons which I do whenever im not booked with charters.
Only thing that could be better for me is if my grandfather were still alive to fish with my son's & me.

Mike, financially speaking... Buying new is a really bad investment. The book value drops a ton in just a couple of years. (Don't feel bad!)

THANKS nEBE > but its nice to know you,ll have a few years without any major problems & also a nice writeoff ;

Tacoma ,s are in such a high demand / try & find one & then see the price ..........................plenty of four doors around , But very, very few access cabs .:wall:

But on the good side .its easy to find in a parking lot . when everything else is silver or gray :jump1:

Jim in CT 03-21-2015 11:35 AM

Had a great night with Tim Coleman at Watch Hill Light many years ago, I told him I was a subscriber to his mag, told him I went to the keys every April, we had a nice long talk. A giving and gentle and humble soul, I think.

denis 03-21-2015 12:10 PM

Now the blood will not show, and it will smell good for a couple of weeks.

and you will always see RED.
good luck with it.

Clammer 03-21-2015 01:02 PM

thanks Bud , we,ll need it ><><>

I,m gonna drill a ton of holes in the floor .. so all the blood & gas & other crap will just drip out :devil2:

Jenn 03-21-2015 06:23 PM

ok a little hijack here ...Clammer like the "new" truck (new are too much $$, and loose their value too fast unless youre on the buying end that is)...did you trade-in or sell the old? If not whats the issue with the old one and would you want to sell as is to someone for a "project? :)

Clammer 03-21-2015 06:50 PM

JENN Trade in $2500

had 160 K needed a left ball joint , frame was rotted right thru , windsheild had a large crack , exhaust system needed to be replaced , both pistons gone again on the rear hatch ..........might have been dirty beyond repair & who knows what else ..................

The manager @ the dealer said it was a shame ...... Because the body only had one small dent / the rear bumper needed to be replaced & some work to the tailgate .

But he said last year of that model 2004 / SR5 .Limited w/ the off Road package

but its going to auction & watch for it on TV . because they all are being bought & shipped overseas to the Arab countries // Wars

You going to make it fishing this year ?????:eyes:

Rappin Mikey 03-21-2015 07:32 PM

My grandfather Jerry Bombardier. He was awesome and I wish he was still around. I remember when I showed him a pic of a crazy blitz from shore off of Race Pt. about 15 years ago when I was just starting to get back into the game. He told me how lucky I was to see that. He also told me in my lifetime I would be lucky to see something like that again. I haven't seen something like that since (close though). He was right. Memories of filling the boat with Cod will always be with me.

Gonna try my best if you'll still allow it :)

Bummer on the truck. All minor except the frame.in 2008 I had to surrender my 98 taco and it went to the scrap yard. I heard about the frame issues and finally looked underneath one day.... we stripped every saleable accessory off and drove her down to the dealer. Cant complain because I got twice for it what I paid. It had almost 200k but I still miss it. Few years later hubby had to ditch his 4runner because of the frame too but no buyback on those (it was a '99) that too was in flawless condition as far as the body went...motor too. interior may have had some fishing funk :)... If you can find 'em you don't want to pay what people are asking. Love my 2001 Frontier I got to replace it. Put 2k in the engine last year. That hurt but when I looked at new they wanted $35,000k + for the modern day equilvilant and I just cant justify that kind of dough for a "light duty" truck......

anyway sorry for thread hi-jack again!

Aha,
I now meet all of these criteria. When we going fishing, Mike?
Ps thanks for the kind words about my friend. He smoked too much. Dead at 42. Just pointless

Fishing with Pop was fun. He'd get pissed when you got your jig caught on the bottom, but made everybody reel up and would have #^&#^&#^&#^&y drive around in circles until it was free. I'd give anything to fish with Raymond "Cookie" Ferriolli, Bobby Ruel, and my own personal favorite, Father Romulus, who would get so sea sick that he would scream for mercy to god( not just pray), on the boat. Every. Time. He. Fished. He used to literally kiss the dock when we got back.

I'm blessed to fish with #^&#^&#^&#^&y as much as I do. I want to keep that alive as much as possible.

After Paul's passing, I'm planning on fishing with Butch, Gabe, and Todd for some sharkin. I'm also going to bring my 8th grade bully (but high school best friend) Lou Polverini and Matt Johnson. They don't drink or smoke, like Clamma said.
Finally, some guys on the site:
John Pollack (we've been fishing together plenty in the past).
Night fighter
Slip
Billy Mitz aka the Specialist
Dangles
TFF again
Chris L
JR (no drinkin and smoking on my part)
TTB
Smokey
Big Fish and Slingah
Shawno and Rappin Mikey
Goose, Milo, and Hemdukas
Flap, Jenn, and Bruce
Bill and Jules

If I missed anyone, I'm sorry. I feel like I was present for fishing with a lot of my heroes, just not there 100%. I'd like to give it another shot the way that things are for me and some others now. I'm pretty sure I'd have a lot more fun!
