I think what he meant was that some of the original hottie thread pix wearn't wearing anything more than a string bikini "top" with two slim "threads" of fabric covering MOST of thier nips, and a g-string bottom that didn't cover much of anything. But that's exactly the reason that it got pulled: went too far, filters responded accordingly. Was showing up as porn site.

6/0? if it works for you. this friday or sunday is lookign alright. the noaa keeps changing. i swore to myself that i have lost a few bigger togs. it felt like fighting a hard fighter. my abu 700cl crapped me out a little. when i turned the handle to pop the freespool button, the handle kept spooling in reverse for a few seconds or longer. i lost a bigger tog because of that. so any tech perspective here?

I just purchased a newell 338 with gear ratio of 5.1. Then I am going to load it with 40 or 50 lbs mono backing and 65 lbs spiderwire stealth.

hmmm, 65 pound test will help you crank them in.

now im waiting for my newell to come at my doorstep. is penn 210 convench a okay substitute for togging?

Anything about that size with a RUGGED drag is fine... drag doesnt need to stand up to LONG runs, but needs a serious amount of balls; we fish them close to locked down.. then you can back off a bit once you get them off the bottom of its a good fish... say north of 10lbs....

Went out over the weekend for the last tog trip (Sat)...it was pretty good but not has hot as it was the week prior. Also, the bite STOPPED when the tide changed, it was like someone threw a switch! As soon as I got there, set the hook dropped the bait...got a 9#er!...said, oh, this is gonna be a great day! We got our limit quick but the bite really died. That is it for 05 boating for me. (BTW, saw the Viking Fleet boat from Montauk fishing in BB)

(Took an early lunch today to catch the low tide and picked up another bussel of scallops... :bl: ) Wife is working on a tog and scallop stew recipe....should be tasty.

My favorite reel for toggin is the shimano tekoda, with 50# PP braid, smooth, powerful and excellent drag and it costs about as much as a decent penn.

I have gotten a lot of PM's asking me how and where I catch green crabs.

The green crab can be purchased in some bait shops but it is easy to catch your own. First you should know that the green crab is a real pest. They can (and have) destroy scallop and other shelfish populations. They are not native to the US and are an invasive critter that have become a real problem in some areas. I read someplace they believe they were introduced to the US via the bildges of ships. Anyway, take all you want and when you are done toss them in the trash (don't put them back in the water). The good news is tog like to eat them. do a google on green crab for more info like this:

Anyway, Most salt ponds have green crabs. I use a trap I got from ketchem traps in New Bedford. I am sure other crab traps will work as well. They are not very picky, just hungry.

Some fishbait and a bouy is all you need and you should be set for greencrab bait.

for those still interested....the tog season still going great. fished sat off of various rocks off of newport in sunny FAC waters. lots of boats out. after a very very slow start things picked up. managed to get two of the party into their first togs ever.

average size was 6 lbs. largest about 8.5 lb. i think we caught about 8-9 keepers and 2-3 shorts in 2 hrs.

oh, and as for gear, we use smaller conventionals for fun. lately been using avet sx's with 50 lb PP, or 17 lb sufix siege with a 12 ft 50 lb leader (it's one of my surf reels). also accurate boss 270 works really well too. havent lost any fish with these micro reels. or not due to their small size anyways.

sometimes we use bigger reels, like a 112H spooled with 40 lb or penn 225 ld's spooled with 50.

never tried a newell....

Joeym, thats what i saw from those chiense guys on frances fleet. they were using that kind of setup. these seems to detect bites from togs better than mine. strong and sensitive.
