This thread was about custom plugs and where the guy can find them cheaper, then you come along and RUDELY insult him by figuring him as just a weekend kinda guy, like that makes any difference at all when he fishes :rollem: and you have to make a lookeeme post by adding fish pictures like you are the greatest fisherman of all because you make your own custom plugs. Give us a break:rolleyes: It doesn't even matter how big the fish is, it's your attention craving that sidetracks the thread that gets peoples' dander up and raises the BS meter.
Does that spell it out for you now Mike?
Do us a favor and go make your one cast.

I don't know why I even bother, you seem like you will never change:bsod:

idea

here's a thought, new poster by the way and you guys make me laugh and provide a ton of information about fishing at the same time and I really appreciate the site, I plan to spend the off months scrounging around the house for stuff to sell on ebay, it's amazing what is lurking around here and what people will pay for it out there, I've noticed that most of the plug builders mentioned on this site accept Paypal on their sites, so you can effectively and easily turn your trash into nice shiny new plugs and never leave your house! I'll let you know how many plugs my junk translated into, Happy Holidays to all...Scott

Tackle Direct - they have the slimmest margins....I'd go there instead of paying the high prices the sponsors here charge.

38lbs ? yeah right :rollem: what a joke

Interesting thread. i have two comments.

best place to buy plugs in my experience is at the winter/spring shows. They are often marked down for the shows (get there early) and many spnsors like M+D (Capecodtackle) are at the shows.

My second comment is that OCM is now on several peoples radar screens. i predict a short posting season for him. :)

ThrowingTimber 11-30-2007 03:12 PM

49 inch 21 inch girth measured and released taken on a black mambo dunno the weight hope shes still swimming. Its funny because I remember when I bought that lure, it was the last show msba had at the mall basement, when you went in the guy was setup midway through the floor on the left-hand-side, they were 2 for the price of 1. I think he was asking 6$ for two.

All lures have a place in the bag, whether its something that nasa made the clear coat for or a mambo minnow they all take fish, when presented the right way in the right conditions. :wavey:

As far as customs go, salty here a sponsor does sales for members, saltwater edge has a notification system, in case a product comes in that you're looking for comes into their shop and Mike Thomas at M&D's has a great selection of customs.

Also think of hitting up some shows coming up and try and get there early you can usually score a bargain or two.

Remind me to shake your hand if we ever meet.
I must have cast bombers on the beaches as many times as 4 ounce jigs in the ditch, best I have with the bomber was about 21 pounds. 47-3/4 pounds is a feat.

the rest of you guys need to just ignore the chest beating knat onecastmike and not take his bait, his bait is bad, stinky, rotten, old bait.
ignore the guy. I wish everyone on the site could just list him on their ignore list.

Bruce you are right its a feat and an even better story. I will root around and see if I can find it.

Amen to that! I had some great times this year with Mambos. Some nice fish fell to them.
Sometimes that $6 plug will out-fish custom wood!

2boxers 11-30-2007 03:33 PM

Joe Lyons from surfcasting RI gets a huge +1 from me, I ordered some plugs from him the beginning of the season and had them the next day. He also went above and beyond customer service wise when he was out of stock on one plug I wanted. M&D is also a great shop to deal with

Back in the early 90's when the mambo Minnow first came out, it was the "go to" lure on the Back beaches. I can't tell you how many 30 and 40 # fish I took on the Black and Silver and the Parrot color. Killer lure.

Yup, nothing but a pleasure dealing with Joe....

I was into 38 pound fish all season long? :smash:I thought it was me measuring them wrong?

zimmy 11-30-2007 05:10 PM

Original question... if you are looking local, need a place to get a plug in a hurry and/or don't want the shipping charge, Stratford Bait is porbably the best bet nearby. I am gonna work on Jimmy O's in Bridgeport and see if he can start carrying a good supply, although I am not sure how easy it is to get in the game with supply and demand and also Stratford Bait pretty near by. maybe he can be our local #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& supplier :)

Hey--after all--he never said HE caught that "38 pounder" ;)

BassDawg 11-30-2007 06:50 PM

WOW! Now that was fast..................

Here's my ringing endorsement for The Edge.

Just ordered Zeno's new book, and had it in me grubby mitts
in two days. UPS, very neatly packed and a bonus SWE sticker to boot!!

The boyz at The Edge are very knowledgable, Pete places a very high priority on customer service, and they have not one but TWO of NE's sharpest pros at yer disposal should one decide to make the very worthwhile trip into their surfcasters heaven.

I have spoken with the Iron One and Steve McKenna at length on many occassions and each time they have been willing to put up with my case of the "hungries" and a trip there has always been worth its weight in gold and gas mileage. Hell, early(11:01 :)) one Sunday last Spring it was just Steve and me in the shop and he taught me his Sluggo rig, side by side, and then gave me a tutorial on his retrieve. Five minutes with Mike Everrin is like an entire season on the water. His ability to impart his knowledge in practical and no nonsense fashion has crushed my learning curve, radically.

While it's not the only place on the Striper Coast to get quality gear, attentive service, and invaluable helps and insights, it is always at the top of my list. Their online service and web site are top notch as well. Check 'em out danno1, you won't be disappointed :kewl:.
