Something like "why cheerleaders hate me" by Rick Reilly. Its a compilation of his 100 favorite articles from Sports Illustrated. - easy and inspirational reading.
"The happiest man in the world" about a man and his attempt to sail around the world on a home made raft. There's also a new book out about Pistol Pete Maravich that was pretty good. For fishing books, read Lou Tabory's books even if you don't fly fish. He has a lot of great ideas on tides, currents, etc. |
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned John Cole. He has several great fishing books, and I would recommend "Fishing Came First" as a starting point. These aren't how-to books but they are a great read.

Its about a seasons worth of experiences from beginning to end on Long Island. Not actually one season but many stories woven into one season. His stories keep you glued to the pages and his writing style transforms you on location. You almost feel like you are standing next to him and casting. Although this is not a "how-to" book ,if you ever wanted to know what makes one of the best surfcasters on East Coast tick, how he makes decisions of where to go,what are his reasoning when taking in account baitfish ,current and winds you have to read this book. |

If this book was read by someone with your experience ,I would be happy. The fact you liked it is a cherry on the top:as: |

John Skinner's name sounds familiar. I can't remember where I saw it. It may have been on the forums or maybe he was a guy I remember reading in On The Water. I just googled him and yup he is the bearded On The Water guy I remember. |

John Skinner is a Surf editor of Noreast Saltwater magazine and very highly regarded angler in NY.The stories takes you from the time fish shows up ,to big bas in the inlets in spring ,his first 50 , LI sound fishing in summer thru fall run and finally to end during herring run. There is a huge mako boat story and kayak trip in there too.Irrelevant to surf but extremely interesting. All ,in all ,a good winter read

BTW if you are into reading something good with a LI theme read the Al Reinfelder chapter in George Reiger's Profiles in Saltwater Angling. Excellent. Also BTW: Congrats on all the positive feedback on your book. It is on my list. |
