based on the response number to this thread, a lot of people are watching and just not liking the show!
they did do a show on the salmon river fishing a while back, it was pretty good. they also did a show on FW fishing way the hell up in Maine for touge I believe.

I would love to see more surfcasting shows and a kayaking show would just be awesome. I'm sure it's on their radar, we just have to be patient. As ridler said though, why not pick up the camera yourself? a buddy of mine is into film editing, maybe we can put a surfcasting show together and post it on this site this season, anybody interested, let me know..god knows the show can't rely on my fishing skills! :D

oh I wanna add that Mike Laptew does a good job showing surfcasting in his vids, but it is still wayy too boat heavy IMO.

CaptMike 03-06-2009 08:54 AM

I'd be interested in doing a boat fishing show. I don't know anything about film editing but I have movie star looks! LOL!

CaptMike 03-06-2009 09:01 AM

My favorite episode of OTW has to the one from season 5 where they're fishing in the new Grady and if you look closely you can see an empty sam adams bottle. That's how you know it's a real NE fishing show! Truth be told I really like the show. There's lots of things they could do to improve but it's great to be able to watch people fishing for the same fish I'm fishing for, in nearby places.

BigFish 03-06-2009 10:30 AM

That is a good show....seen it 43 times though!:smash:

d. IT AIN'T FREE... and this economy isn't helping. TV time isn't cheap and I'm sure OTW needs some sponsorship dough to get their shows on the air. They can film a bazillion tv shows all over New England, but if they can't afford to air them then its useless.

I hope they can get some more shows, particularly surf fishing with reputable anglers like they did with steve mckenna and mike laptew a few years back. I'd like to see a show on the outer cape beaches. I feel like you could preserve the specific location and just focus on the water.

my sediments exactly

"We're fishing today with John Doe at the Phantom Beach for striped bass sometime during the fishing season at no tide in particular."
"John, what can you not tell us?"

It's unrealistic to expect a for profit fishing show not relay the basics related to the show's subject matter. The viewership and advertisers expect certain things.

Now, a not-for-profit web or public access show - different story. You want the host to swear, let him. You want to tell the viewers they can watch, but we're not going spoon feed you spots, you can. You want to engage in irreverant zaniness - go for it. What you've got in the end could be something really creative or useless - depending on who did it.

J-golden 03-07-2009 12:04 AM

you guys can always watch Oprah instead

CanalGuy 03-11-2009 07:14 PM

I just want to see the Wachusett Reservoir episode from a few seasons ago. I live at the place can tell you there always the same amount of people. I hope they head back.

CaptMike 03-12-2009 07:16 AM

There's an episode about catching tuna on the fly that's pretty fantastic, I like the one about fishing on the bonito bar too. That's a place I need to check out this season.

RIJIMMY 03-12-2009 07:56 AM

I wonder whats keeping them from releasing new episodes? Its Mid-March and still re-runs.

Also, anyone watch Hunt for Big Fish with Larry Dahlberg? I think the economy is hitting him this year. Most episodes have been local Minnesota or filmed in his basement instead of traveling the world for exotic species. On one episode he mentioned that flight tickets were 2K and he couldnt afford it.

Joe 03-12-2009 08:47 AM

I like The Hunt For Big Fish - that's my favorite fishing show. My guess is the advertisers are not paying their bills.
I like those shows from his basement though - I like when he added weight to the butt of the rod and measured how that would reduce stress on the elbow.

Flaptail 03-12-2009 08:52 AM

The Hunt for Big Fish is the best show on the tube. And not to mention Dahlberg has an awesome guitar collection as well.

That guy has endured disentary and all kinds of other tropical ills to go into places where no average angler would dare.

I would love to go to the Amazon with him sometime for giant peacock bass and thier Dorado (not to be confused with MAHI MAHI)

RIJIMMY 03-12-2009 09:40 AM

yeah, any guy that fishes and plays guitar is ok in my book. That golden dorado episode, (was it Argenina?) is my favorite all time fishing show.

Rockport24 03-12-2009 09:46 AM

yeah Dahlberg is the man! I was thinking of all of you when I saw the episode this past weekend with him in his basement talking about plugs the whole time.

my favorite was when he was surfcasting for a big game type species (maybe tarpon or rooster fish?) in Mexico

Jimmy...did you see the collection of vintage amps that Dahlberg has stacked in his cellar!!!!:eek5:

CaptMike 03-12-2009 10:13 AM

The hunt for big fish is pretty awesome. I also like anything flip pallot does. Jose's not bad either. Saltwater experience is really good on dvd

Naw, seen enough beached whales.:hidin:

beaver 03-12-2009 12:09 PM

Anyone see the Hunt for Big Fish when Dahlberg jumped into the Amazon? to retrieve a peacock that got wrapped up in a tree. That was pretty wild. I would never get into that water. His shows are pretty great.

I like Flip, Jose, and the Saltwater Experience mainly because they're all good anglers and fish places that I hope to make it to. I also like Tred Barta. He does some stupid sheeeet but knows his stuff and makes a good show.

Would like to see a local show get the sponsorship backing that those shows get.

JoeBass 03-12-2009 12:37 PM

[QUOTE=stiff tip;6 i look at it as i'm offering up my know how and info to u people as a gift .cause most u have no clue wtf is going on..most just bitch and complaine about fishing or lack of ...... dave ..[/QUOTE]

I think it's great that you want to help all the retarded fishermen Dave. I'd like to see an episode where you are dressed as Santa and angry, feeble minded fisherman sit on your knee and you present them with your wisdom.

Green Light 03-12-2009 08:42 PM

There was only 1 kayak fishing episode...and not very well done, compared to the other shows. There are some unique shows throught out seasons 1 - 4, but not surfcasting. NY?, NJ?

That's GREAT news.

:thanks:

nightfighter 03-15-2009 09:05 AM

Today's broadcast was done in 2007. Live lining pogies from a boat off Fisher's Island. Still did the trick for my Sunday morning fix, as that is probably my favorite style of fishing off the boat.

41 times with today's airing of the same episode..... but it is striper fishing.

striperman36 03-29-2009 09:15 AM

nice boat too.

But 2 years old now?

Swimmer 03-29-2009 09:36 AM

How about a show on how to pee over the gunwhale in six foot snot while wire lining at the same time.

That's a true fishing challenge. Despite all the criticism I really like the show it would be nice if the hosts emoted once in a while. They honestly catch a 100# bass and don't even smile, "that's a respectable fish". Is about all they have to say.

JoeBass 03-30-2009 08:55 AM

all in all I really like the show and thank you to you guys who put it together. Keep it coming.

My favorite was when he was fishing for the Giant Catfish in Suranam.

Hooks into this thing and has to follow it in the boat for 1/2 a mile down river while fighting it...then hop out and lands it on shore.

Friggin thing had to be 8' long and weigh 300 easy.....And he's hugging the thing after he landed it.

CaptMike 03-31-2009 07:29 AM

Yeah that was a scary lookin thing, I don't think I would jumped in and hugged it like that, although maybe if I were on tv I would have
