Boga mounts on the retractor on the right side of your belt, jaws clip to carabiner on left side. The boga lays right across your lower back tight to the belt and out of the way. No bag on the belt in this set up. Make sure you get a high force retractor to keep the boga tight. It is strong enough to boga a fish and let go. The tensiton of the retractor keeps the jaws locked but is not too much to be a strain to extend. The one in this link mounts on your belt, but you can also get ones to clip to your belt if you do not want such a permanent mount.

It is cool in a slide rule in the computer age sorta-kinda way. Problem is that much like engineers should need to learn the slide rule before the easy 'puter, we need to have more people understanding and adhering to the regulations before they go fishing (OK. a little bumpy but work with me here).

Lip gripper/scale is at the top of my list for new equipment for next season. I'll be using it on the kayak and in the surf.

me too. getting a hook through the hand is my worst fear, id rather get slammed by a rouge wave then have a nice vmc in the hand. i think it will also help me land fish faster/easier since i alway hesitate the second i see those trebles. the 60 would be nice to have but it is very long and $130 more. i will probably just hang it off my belt on a d-ring. hopefully santa will get me one :uhuh:

thats a pretty sweet idea when you get to your spot you just let it hang? or do you just unclip it whenever u need it? my parents got me the 30# i will probably just carry it on a d-ring with a lanyard. that setup would be sweet for long walks or if ur swimming

Sometimes when I am into fish, I let it hang free. Most of the the time I keep it clipped to the belt to keep it out of the way though. Lost a good fish at my feet last year because the butt of my rod got stuck in the telephone cord I had on the boga and I was unable to untangle things in time. My old retractor was out of comission last season after many years of faithful service. Got the shiny new one in the picture for Christmas. :uhuh:

If I am moving between spots, the jaws clip on the belt to avoid it thumping around as I go. One REALLY nice aspect of having it on the lanyard is you can actually let go of your fish after it is unhooked and the strength of the retractor keeps sufficient tension on the Boga jaws to keep ahold of the fish. This alows you the freedom to tend to your rod, lure, etc... before you take steps to release the fish. It is nice when swimming to a spot not to have it "phantom bump" your legs. Scared myself a few times last season using the old telephone cord set up.

Such a nice set up... i have experienced similar tangles with the telephone cord type leash...
