Surf spots and the canal are two different things and for the most part the "respected anglers" pics show up weeks after the fish hit the scale or are released.

I hope the dude nails a 50. Just think he might want to worry a little about what info he is sharing. If my fishing partner was posting this stuff we wouldn't be on speaking terms right now.

Don't hate the playa, hate the game. :devil2:

fAter reading many of these replys I am done posting here. I guess I should have thought about what I posted and what it could turn into. My fishing partner does know about the pics posted but whats he gonna say. The guy never caught a fish over 40" 3 years ago, and now he a regular of 30+ lbers...why...cause I showed him MY spots. Not taking credit for his fish, he still lands them and is a great fisherman, I just took the leg work (tides, wind, current, rocks, bars, etc) out of the equation, which is 75% of surfcasting. The first time he fished we me he landed a 35lber and thought it was a 50...he went from chaing birds and schoolies to 35#ers virtually overnight. I wish I had that luxury 12 years ago. He is a great fishing partner and even better friend and I am just happy/lucky to share these experiences with him.

While I do enjoy reading some of the replys, I dont think posting on this site is for me. I guess I should have thought about that before. As they say hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20. Hope you all have a great and safe season.

I think you took a lot of the responses the wrong way. most people are just trying to help you out. keep on posting, we want to see a pic of that 50 that's out there.

ProfessorM 10-13-2010 07:25 PM

I am sorry to say I got a feeling you are going to regret ever posting those pics with so much background and your addy so specific, but that is just my 2 cents. Like Chris said next year at this time of year I would expect some company. Hope I am wrong. We have all had an instance where we regretted telling the loose lips sink ships type person about a good nite at a specific spot. A good learning experience here for people that have fav. spots that they want to remain their own after hard work. Sorry for your loss and hope you get the one you are after.

you dont need a VS to catch fish. I have a 8 year old 560 that has a bunch of sentimental value packed with y-z hybrid 25lb test, 50# mono leader 6/0 Gama. hook....all I need. Funny you mention that though...have a buddy of mine, well an acquaintance lets say, that bought a ZB...this guy would be couldn't catch a fish if life depended on it, but he wants to "look" the part.. I dont need to look the part, my $150 560 has caught me just as many fish than if I was fishing a ZB and VS that go for $900+. Yes, I have to break her down once a week but how long does that take...15 minutes. Too me its no big deal.

I was joking about not having a VS. Can't tell if you were taking my comment seriously.

Not too hard to figure out where given the information you have disclosed on the site whether intentional or not. I went through it on the tuna forum. People following my boat, looking at the spread, etc. My own fault. I posted pics and reports constantly. I dont have a problem helping people but there come a point. I don't post many reports and if so it is vague and long past since the fish was caught. I feel your pain.

The damage is done already,You can contribute to the site without biting the nose, despite the face.
As you experienced, there are some folks(dooshbags) that will try to mow your lawn despite the hundreds of miles of coastline.

Another good poster lost due to unnessary negative comments.

numbskull 10-14-2010 06:43 AM

What "negative comments" are you referring to?
All I see are people congratulating him but warning him not to be too open.
The VS line was obviously in jest and meant not for S_Haven, but rather for those of us (Luds included) who like to spend money on fancy fishing tackle.

SH - definitely a mixed thread of encouragement, advice (sometimes prickly), and as usual, the peanut gallery. :btu:

Be happy - you have a nice roll going. I couldn't stumble over a nice fish the past week :wall: .

Funny story about the two wetsuiters who chased you down, why didn't you cast eels and throw rocks at them? You must have a life.

DMenace 07-26-2011 11:50 AM

How about some pix of those Forrest Fires, they must be awesome to see? Those can be the only "spot-burning" pictures you post until you hit your #50.

JoeBass 07-26-2011 12:33 PM

I know that spot! You head down the main road and turn left where the old barn burned to the ground about 10 years ago. Make a right where there used to be that tire on the side of the road. Its down there.

JoeBass 07-26-2011 12:39 PM

seriously, I hope you keep posting. Really inspired by great fisherman like you. The thing you said about knowing the tides, wind, current, structure, etc. is so true. These are the things it takes long hours and good fish sense to learn and what makes a really good fisherman vs. a lucky one. Hats of to you.

It's hard to get past the irony Bryan. If you saw Ricks thread before it was removed I'm sure you would feel the same. For some reason JohnR doesn't feel his constituents are worthy of the warning label attatched to Gooseberry. When somebody tries to injure another member because his intended perch is occupied I feel it should be disclosed. Not to mention veiled threats regarding their vehicles...Put yourself in his shoes.

Bronko 07-26-2011 01:38 PM

Why was that thread pulled? I am with Chris, I never start trouble here but there are countless threads about. Muggings and 'spot wars' that get little or no attention or scrutiny. Why pull this one? Is it fisherman specific? An incident like this needs some the antiseptic sunlight, this isn't googan on googan crime or a canal mugging, this is two legit striperman battling over turf. Needs to be discussed.

Don't put words or assumptions in my mouth Chris. Believe me, you are one of the last people I want trying to interpret why or what I do because you will allow your time honored bias to trash other people to get in the way.

I pulled the thread and PM'd both involved. What I said, really is none of your business. The reason I pulled it was to give two people I like a chance to work it out without the additional baggage of a pi$$ing contest online and self-appointed thread police such as yourself to further stir the murk for your personal benefit or enjoyment.

I almost ended my first post on the matter with "Sea Dangles in 4... 3... 2... 1..." but that would have been too easy, no matter how predictable.

So now that the first avenue was gone, that clearly wasn't good enough for you, so to keep your attack / entertainment going, I drudge up something from last year to further your jaunt. Classy.
