Holy crap just got video of a couple more coming down moments after having my picture/video taken at the base of it to show the size of the split, I noticed it was leaning about 5 degrees and saw the halves moving slightly, walked over to the other tree (1st one down) and just got my phone with the video going brought to me when it started going. I hope the video is good and when I figure out how to I'll review it and post it.

WBZ News just interviewed a woman from National Grid, she reported that some people will be without power for up to a week ... :smash: ... granted there are about 300,000 without power in MA, and she said 100,000 without power in RI and NH each

Raider Ronnie 08-28-2011 02:54 PM

Power has been out in Wrentham since about 11:00 am
Gonna be pissed if it's not back on in time for the Raiders vs Saints at 8:00 pm on nbc

Had to move the yak and splitter....this is the tree that came down and took half another 80' with it, moved the yak because the other half is still there and it's 80' somewhat skinny, really hope it doesn't hit the house or garage.....once again my hat for scale. Once I review the videos I'll see about getting them posted.

Out here... Earl was much worse last year. No rain at all here. < 1/4" total. Wind to 45 and those were only gusts. Last year we had some real wind over 60 sustained.

I figured I spend $1000 and one full day to prepare for this non-event. I wonder if my insurance co will re-imburse me for my trouble.:jump1:

I will not listen to the weather experts again. I will make my own forecast. 5 days ago a cat 2 hurricane with winds 125mph was going to pass over BI and up thru RI/MA...today a 50 mph "storm" went well west of NYC and did little to nothing here. Grateful yes, overhyped...for sure.

ecduzitgood 08-28-2011 04:27 PM

It was overhyped but it caused plenty of damage here. Just looked over the videos. I have one where I am walking from the tree with the split to the other, next video sucked because I was running from the area, next video shows the tree at about 40 degrees and shows it falling the rest of the way down. I can't figure how to post it yet.......

RIJIMMY 08-28-2011 04:28 PM

Been snorkeling since 10 am, saw rays, tarpon, and all kinds of fish. I'm on my second dark and stormy. Life is good in the isands. House is going to wreak if no power. Ahh wel...... stay safe...ill stay buzzed, hot and stress free

Mr. Sandman 08-28-2011 04:45 PM

Other than some flooding...there was no real hurricane damage, A few trees that should have been thinned out fell down, and a few streets flooded but no real hurricane damage. How many roofs were ripped clean off the house? TWC was focused on a house that was going to loose a few shingles!!! Most beaches are in decent shape. If a real hurricane ever makes it up here, you will see some damage. Poor Jim Cantore could not find a breeze to fly a kite in that storm.

The over reaction from Katrina is what caused all of this. Following that storm, Way too much gov money was spent to prepare for storms.
I thought fishermen exaggerated...weathermen are far worse. NOT ONE of the weather people would say the storm was weakening..not one. And it was breaking apart. They kept saying it was going to strengthen..it didn't.

I still think they should be held accountable for their public forecast, and then we should rank who the most accurate forecasters are...they hire forecaster's now for the best cleavage and whitest teeth. Just give me the facts and put your clothes back on.

Even Right now on CDD the headline says:
Weakened Irene still threat

IMO the gov has instructed the liberal media to follow their lead.

And don't give me better safe than sorry garbage...get it right.

Please everyone stay away from the surf, only trained meteorologists can walk against the wind and tell us how difficult it is just to stand up and inform us that the rain drops feel like needles.

likwid 08-28-2011 04:52 PM

New Bedford/Fairhaven is a mess. (atleast 10 boats have broken loose, im sure more by now)
Padanaram is the usual mess with boats on the beach.

Saw gusts up to 70, 40-50 sustained at Fairhaven Shipyard about 2 hours ago now.

And seriously?
Go pay Commanders or Locust for weather Sandman, you would have spent the same money for the same "liberal media" event you so seem to be obsessed with.

Don't you have googan gaffs to laugh at?

I have to admit that I am just a tad envious of the hum coming from my neighbors generator.

This just isn't true.

There was talk it might gain some strength after it hit the ocean again after NC but every analysis I saw (perhaps 8+ different sources) reported it was getting weaker after that.

Pretty much every meteorologist I saw said the legacy of this storm would be the rainfall which looks to have been accurate.

The wind forecasts for RI seem to have been pretty much on target if just a bit high.

The consensus was that while this wasn't a violent storm, the size and ability to impact a large number of people was a real danger.

While there are certainly parts of the media that will sensationalize anything to generate some interest, I think a lot of people make their own hype by watching too much coverage on cable tv and online.

It's self inflicted...

Well, it was a lucky break that the flood tide did not coincide with
the storms peak time. The poles would be gonzo.
Its still really cranking, and the surf is giant, so I am wondering what will happen with the next one.

tattoobob 08-28-2011 05:42 PM

I just spent 3 hours skimming and vacuuming my pool other than a few really small branches down we stayed lucky

I have an update for you. High tide in Buzzards Bay is in about a half hour, and at low tide this afternoon, the water was ABOVE the mean high water mark in almost every part of the Upper Cape along the bay. And the wind is still a sustained 40 SW with gusts well over 60. Trees are down all over Bourne and Falmouth, some roads impassible due to downed trees.

I have no tolerance for bomb throwers spouting politics right now.

It will take me about an hour tomorrow to wash all the leaves and debris out of my boat, but 2nd the sentiment: we were lucky!

Hookedagain 08-28-2011 08:03 PM

Worked last night, got home at 7:10 to no power this morning. Sat on the farmers porch with my son and watched all the neighbors trees swing and sway. After linch we went down to see some waves....NOT!!! Every beach access along the ocean had a cop, national gaurd or a tree in my way. Made it down a private road in Tiverton and watched some waves in the river (not the same). Then hit Fogland and Seapowett. Lots of trees down but thats about it. We got power back at around 7:30.
