yes this is the same one I am getting- this after I got a 503 error and then a few days a 404 error.

Maybe he should have shut it down for 5 days and got it done right.

It's up now and seems to be working well. As far as "maybe he should have"... maybe you and Tim could only have figured that out by Tim trying it out and seeing that it still needed work. His rear view mirror probably works pretty much the same as yours... and mine.

Law enforcement starts knocking on the door, maybe the PMs get opened - depends on the scenario.

Understood John, but as the site owner, if you wanted to look at PM's its well within your rights...to me, PM only means private from the general public...
for the record, i've never called you ahole in a PM...at least i don't think i have...;)

I have no way of being sure, but having watched how Tim and the Moderators operate, I'd be very surprised if Tim went through anyone's PMs unless there had been some issues between that member and the other Mods or other members or unless there had been some violation noticed. I really think he has better / other things to do than randomly kick back and read our PMs. There had to be a reason otherwise he wouldn't have wasted his time... just my take. Any more than you'd waste your time trying to track down a problem or check out a problematic member if you hadn't seen or gotten a report of a problem beforehand.

My .02 As you can see I don't post much on either site but always check in. On both sites I will pm if I have something to say to somebody. Don't need remarks from everyone. I will say it is a "nicer group" on here, a lot less people who have something to say about everything. When you have been on a site for less than say 5 years or so and have thousands of posts, well? Anyways I have met Tim a few times and he seems like a good enough guy to me. Actually I can say out of all the guys I've met on both sites there are only maybe a couple that I would not want to fish with or have a beer with. Like it has been said, if ya don't like the rules start your own site. Scott

I can tell you unequivocally that as an administrator there, I have never looked at any member's PMs. I don't even know whether I could, and I know that I wouldn't have begun to know where to look.

The RI forum seemed to turn into alot of "hey check out my short tog i caught", or "ive been fishing for 2 years and have only caught a searobin help!". I just feel theres alot more dedicated fisherman on this site.

But back when i first started surf casting that site gave me alot of info. Also got to learn from some really good fisherman i met on that site. Just not the same as it used to be.

He's gone through my "Private messages" Kevin. Back when I was fishing 9 nights a week on rocks and sand from Maine to Napatree. He pm'd me asking me why I got so many pm's. I told him he was free to read them, theyre all from folks I was fishing with. I believe he was under the impression I was using my pm's to sell lures or whatever. Nope just a beach bum :lama::lama:

OK.... never was aware of that. However, I don't think he does it just for entertainment or without some reason. Meanwhile, I'm like Paul... I play be the rules, and I've never had a problem with him or the site. And I'll have nothing more to add to this discussion. I like John. I like Tim. I like fishing and I like all the positive stuff I've gotten from both sites. It's a pretty good life I'd say. Finito. :-)

Not saying anything wrong about it just saying its been done :)

vic, if he read them you would think he'd know the content...fish talk as opposed to selling plugs or something.

Tim posted that instead of transferring everything to a new server he decided to set up a temporary server first and have that migrate to a permanent server so the site would not be down as long. I think that cause unanticipated problems and if he had to do it over again, he would have bagged the temporary server.

I did the same thing with our club website but nobody uses it so it went unnoticed :)

I do not believe you can from the moderator control panel. I do not believe you can from the administrators control panel either. But there are other ways to do it and any IT admin knows how.

I'm a member of a bicycling site that used to be powered by Huddler, and recently switched to the same IPB platform that SOL runs on now. They didn't use the interim server, and their site was down for a full week during the switch. And they had a fraction of the data to transfer as SOL did. There are still things that were lost in the switch, and no clue as to whether the site admin can recover them on his own.

This company is one of the few that has successfully done a Huddler change-over.

Looks like I have been booted over there. Sign in not working....... Site has become too difficult

ivanputski 04-10-2015 11:51 PM

This winter i found myself on sol quite often, but since the update it has become frustrating to navigate on a mobile phone, missing key features that make a quick check- in incredibly frustrating.
I guess with spring finally here, the user- UNfriendly update came just in time to break my almost habit.
Besides, the place was bringing out the worst in me, as i would read posts so ridiculous i just couldnt resist responding. Before i knew it i found myself wondering how i found myself in the middle if a ridiculous " discussion" .
Im glad the update is frustrating, because now i no longer check in.

Likely not booted, I think you have to reset your password to your old user name. Worked for a bunch of folks that posted and for me.

BigBo 04-11-2015 07:15 AM

If your password doesn't work, just request a new password to your email. Then follow the link in your email. Once you're in, you can change your password back to your old one afterwards. It's really not that difficult to figure out.
