OK, I'm Ross, or Rosco. Been in Marblehead area most of my 45 years. On the water for most of em too, except up till five years ago,, it was focused on making racing sailboats go fast, or building or delivering them to the next race. Hmmm.....five years ago is when I also got divorced after 15 years. And I found great solace and pure pleasure learning about the pursuit of stripers, especially from the surf! It's become a passion. I do get out on the boat and do a little chartering on a friend's 28' Pursuit. (Really using all of that 100 ton ticket, huh Red Crabber?) After 21 yrs managing other people's money, I am now a Gen Contractor, mostly remodeling, finish work, etc.

Got great, well adjusted 10 year old twins, B/G, who will appease dad occassionally and go fishing with him. I am blessed just to be their dad.

Glad to say I am more comfortable in my own skin now than any time I can remember, and fishing helped me get there. Hell, I even fish with others now! I consider fishing one of the major gifts I received from the divorce. Life is good. Not perfect, but good nonetheless. Friend of Bill W.

Would love to see more S-B members venturing up this way.

Thanks to the guys who've assisted me so much, you know who you are. JohnR, carryon, it's all good.

Bill L 02-27-2003 10:00 PM

Name's Bill, live in South Kingstown RI. 39 years old, married with two daughters, 8 and 11 -- none of whom like fishing! Been fishing the area beaches and rocks for about 15 yrs, mostly plugging and jigging, but also love light tackle and plastics. Also have a 15 foot boat that I run out of Salt Pond for inshore fishing, but love the surf, especially in the spring and fall. A great bunch of people on this board

dkovac 02-28-2003 01:20 PM

Hi All,

Live just north of Philadelphia and fish the Jersey coast Except for when I visit your fishing heaven. My father-in-law has a house in Eastham so we usually spend 1-2 weeks a year up there. Not being the most accomplished saltwater fisherman I mostly lurk here, not having much to add. I hope you guys don't mind me spying on the knowledge you guys give ;)
Wife is from Worcester MA and I have a 18 month old and twins due late April so my fishing time will be less cosidering i am 1 1/2 from the beach. Fish for Stripers and Flounder with a friend off his boat and do overnight trips to the surf.
As my yearly pilgramage draws closer I'm sure I'll be asking a lot more questions.

Thanks for such a great board

Hi everybody i'm leo, i live in blackstone mass with my wife of ten years and my three year old boy. i work for ford motor company and i will be 42 in may. love to fish (saltwater) mostly in rhode island (love charlestown) just surf fishing. i started last year in april going fishing alone, joined this group of guys and gals in june for the rhody leg of the s-b.com and have never fished alone sence. i have played trumpet from age 10 and i also teach part time in the summer with our local h.s school marching band. i started building rods this winter and really come to enjoy it, my son like's to watch bob the builder all the time so this hobby really helped me keep sane.
see ya out there :D

Homerun04 02-28-2003 06:38 PM

My turn.....my name is Steve, but I go by the handle of Homerun or Saucey.....raised on Long Island and have fished all the waters of Orient Point, Montuak, Hallocks Bay, Sherlter Island, the Dumps, the Race, the Gut, etc.....fortunate enought to have a few boats at my disposal as a kid....moved up to MA about 15 years ago and took a 12 year leave from fishing......got a surf rig about 10 years ago and played around on Matunuck, but needed to get back into a boat....so, I bought the Whaler last spring and really enjoyed BI, PJ and all the Cape (Cuttyhunk, Hyannis, Horseshoe Shoals, Monomoy, etc)... I have fished many waters including Pacific Northwest, Alaskan, Mexico, Chesapeake and Florida. My signiture fish was a 210 pound yellowfin tuna off BI coast.

I am married to a saint (for 14 years now, so I guess I am the "Marriage Grandpa" around here at the tender age of 38)...we have 2 great girls -- Kim who is 11 now and whose nickname is Saucey (hence the boat handle), and Kelly who is 4 (whose nickname is Soupy).....all three of them HATE fishing, so I often get the solitude of early morning fishing in silence on my Whaler.....cast and retrieve.....cast and retrive.........:)

I am a veteran of the computer industry for 15 years now and am very proficient in all areas of technology....have always been in sales, most notably all enterpsie-wide solutions, including ERP, CRM, PLM/PDM, WMS, APS, MRP/CRP, Asset Management, BI, Analytics, CFPR, Datawarehousing, Data Marts, Logistics and the rest of the alphabet soup technologies.....with the collapse of the technology market 2 years ago, I have found myself looking for work.....it is so slow out there it is pathetic.....guess that just means I'll be fishing everyday this spring and summer....;) Too bad for me......

I have had great help from many on this board....too many to mention......all the folks are great and I look to reciprocate in any way I can this year....good luck to all.

Saltheart 02-28-2003 07:12 PM

Hi I'm Saltheart. real name is Mike . In the non fishing world , I'm an Engineer. Once had my own company making space reentry materials. Now I work for a big company in the area.

I was born in , live in and hope to die in RI (but not too soon). Grew up in central falls and cumberland. still live in Cumberland.

I fished southern RI for about 25 years and now , for the last five , fish mostly at the Dicth but still fish RI early and late in the season. I have always been a 95% surf fisherman. Smokey and I fish together every week at least once and more when time allows. I have had a sailboat for 21 years now but only troll off the back when there is no wind. Sailed everything from New Haven to Nantucket in my Bristol 22. Probably have to sell it this year do to health concerns. :( I consider myself an expert surffisherman. Know every inch of the RI coast and some parts of MA. Always loved fishing from when I was a kid doing freshwater myself and going to the saltwater with my Portogee uncles. caught a cod fish off the west wall back in about 1965! never had use for stripers when i was young but got hooked on chasing them in 77 and now that's all i really target. fish catch and release about 99%. kept about 3 fish in the last three years.

I love the ocean. fishing , sailing , digging for clams or just sitting on the beach. I feel alive when I breath ocean air.

I like to do handcrafts. Been making jewelry from silver and goldsmithing to cutting and setting stones. started making custom rods and love to do the thread art. Built the addition on my house myself including a full bathroom. always liked working with my hands. Had an auto repair business back when i was in graduate school. Also like to cook but have to watch what i eat lately so that puts a damper on gourmet cooking. :(

I'm single but attached. No kids but love them. Love dogs and especially cats. Always had one or the other or both. In fact I like almost all animals and almost all people. :) Anyway , that's the story of my life.

Do I have to???

Ok,I guess I will, sinse I'm the new guy on the block.

I'm 28,I live on that long island in NY.I grew up on the water,& have been fishing since I was able to cast myself. My dad took me everywhere he went.& taught me alot.I've fished from the skinny waters to the deeps of the hudson canyon.I've owned several boats in my years, but now I can't afford 1,Except my freshwater boat(my other luv). Now I just fish on freinds boats.I can honestly say I am a High school drop out due to my luv of fishing.(should I be proud of that)No I'm not.I would put fishing instead of earning a degree,I now wish I didn't,but it's to late now.I own my own Drywall bussiness, which is doing well.I was allways good with my hands & not my brain.
I have been fishin the suds for about 10 or more yrs now.Take away some time I went down south(1 year)to start my life over & get away from the bad things.I have been back for 5 yrs now,& all that is history. For the last 5 years I can say I have been a diehard, surf rat & fish from 4-7 days a week. My family thinks I am crazy as all I talk is fish talk.I am not married & don't plan on it.I own a small ranch with all I need in the back is my man cave.I spend allot of time in there, doing my newly found hobby of making plugs.I'm new at it & still wanting to learn.Just like fishin the surf.Everytime I meet another Diehard or old timer I learn somethin new.

I could go on for days about my life, but I think I've bored you enough.I am new to this computer thing,as I've only been online for a little over a year.Thats my story.

Who's Crazy Al???Never heard of Him:D

BEETLE 02-28-2003 09:38 PM

Hey all! My name's Bob. It's been a lomg time since I've posted here. Long hiatus. Been out of commission (health problems) for a while. Back on my feet again and ready for a good year of fishing on the salt. Mainly fishing out of my boat. I can't seem to get enough. I grew up fishing the sweetwater until a friend took me striper fishing about 15 years ago in Duxbury. I caught my first keeper and have been hooked ever since and am still learning new stuff every year. Been married 23 years (she doesn't fish but loves to eat them). We have one daughter whose not such a bad fisherperson in her own right, but I now have a grandson of 2 1/2 years old. Can't wait until he's old enough to fish with "Pa". He already owns a rod and reel and likes to break it out and imitate Pa when he sees me with my stuff out.
Anyways, John R, and all else who help out here, you got a great site here and a lot of good people on board. I should be posting more from now on.
See you all on the water!

Moose Nuckle 03-01-2003 12:56 PM

Hello All,
My name is Fred. I remember my Grandfather taking me fishing when I was about five years old. I'm 41 now and still fish to this day. It's not the same today as it was when I was a kid. I remember trying to scrape up enough money to buy a dozen sea worms and some hooks to go flounder fishing. I use to use nuts and washers as weights. I was born and raised in Quincy and bought the house I grew up in. I have worked at the same job now for 18 years. Let's just say it's adult day care. I don't have to use nuts and washers for weights or even a drop line. I don't know why but I still get pumped when I catch a flounder. I guess I'll nerver grow up. You can find me on VHF ch. 69. My boats name is " MOOSE-NUCKLE."

MAC 03-01-2003 01:19 PM

Hi, my name is Dave, I look like this guy:happy: . Live in Massachusetts now after a 10 year hiatus. (used to travel doing construction) Got back 5 years ago and started surf fishing again. I've been married for going on 12 years to my loving wife Mary. How she puts up with me I don't know, as I fish everytime I get the chance, usually 2 or 3 times a week from April through Oct. Then Its deer hunting season, she must be a saint.
I recently started making my own plugs and am going to swim them tomorrow to see how they do. This is as addictive as fishing.

NIB 03-01-2003 05:22 PM

My name is Charlie an Im a Hemopheliac

Brooksie 03-01-2003 06:03 PM

Hi, I'm Brian. I'm 29 and I've been fishing since high school, went a lot as a kid too and can remember catching flounder off the A street peir. In HS I only fresh water fished and got into salt water around 96'. I mainly fish Boston Harbor.

I've been married for 2 years and have two children. I do Telecommunications for a living.

Time is moving too slow, must fish, having withdrawals.

Canalman 03-01-2003 10:10 PM

My name is Dave... I live in Westport and wake up every morning to the drool inspiring view of the Westport river (drool puddles are larger in the winter due to lack of bass!!! ) I have been fishing as far back as my memory goes and I have been in love with stripers for about 10 years (when I caught my first at 12). I am a surf maniac if theres water I'll wade it. I fish eels, plugs and a little rubbah. Can't stand chunking :sleeps: too boring! I too have joined the plug building bandwagon and the addiction is well in place. I fish at least 3 times a week Late April through Late Novemeber and I look forward to fishing with many of you. Here's hoping a great season to us all!!!!

Mullet Head 03-01-2003 10:25 PM

Hi, I am Joey. I live on the Southern tip of VA's Eastern Shore and I am a Conservation Officer. I like any kind of salt water fishing. I especially like using live mullet for flounder, trout, and stripers. I also like to catch spade fish and chunk bunker for cobia. I usually fish all along the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and especially like the High Rise and the Third Island. I hope to start getting off shore to the wrecks this coming spring.

redcrbbr 03-01-2003 10:45 PM

my name is Bob, 45, happily married (most of the time) 15 years to a beautiful and understanding wife and have two beautiful daughters 11 & 13. the whole family likes to fish, but are not as addicted as your truly.
i have lived in westport, massachusetts all my life so far, cept for a stint in the air force in the 70's. Started fishing saltwater when i was nine and the first fish i caught was a 6 lb. tog off of stone bridge. i fished commercially for 12 years for red crabs and ran the boat for the last five years. we fished the edge of the continental shelf in 400 fathoms, hauling and setting traps like lobster pots only a tad larger year round. i quit fishing commercially in 92...no regrets. i currently work as a heavy duty truck mechanic, and am certified in all aspects of the job. i started my own truck refrigeration business about 2 years ago. i just havn't had the balls to venture out on my own yet.
as for fishing ..can't get enough of it. my primary species is striped bass. and there is nothing like being on a beach on a hot starry summer night and hearing your drag go off, or the tap on your eel.

so welcome to all the new people here. you are definately going to like this place!

Hi, My real name is Joe,and I am 40 years young. I was born in New London Ct and my family is from NY. I have lived in Mass since I was 5 years old and have always love the ocean. Started fishing with my dad at a very young age. Started from shore. Use to go over the railroad tracks behind Maco Bait and catch flounder all day long.
I really got into the fishing about 10 years ago with a friend Manny, He taught me just about everything I no. He was killed in a car crash 2 years ago and he is sadly missed.
I got the name Macojoe fishing with a friend about 30 miles off sure when a maco grabed my cod on the way up, He was 6 feet long and I will never forget that as long as I live.
I mostly fish the Vinyard. There is nothing like this pace any where. You can go there and catch Fluke, Bass, Sea Bass, Scup, Tog, Banito,Blues all in the same day.
I have a Wellcraft V20 steplift. It is old but I love this boat,so much so I have just about finished converting it from an I/O to a outboard. I have a 175 Yamaha for it and will be ready May 1.
I found this site because I started building some of my own rods and was looking for some info to make it easier. I went to search typed rod building forum and here I am.
I have been Married for 22 years now I have a son 17 and a daughter 14. My daughter has applyed to the lower cape tec and wants to take up, are you ready Marine Macanhic!! So I guess you can tell who she takes after.
This is a great site and I am glad I found it. I would like to get my six pac and do some guiding. But we will see what happens. I fish Commercial for the Bass and The fluke. I don't make much. I am more interested in the fun but I have to suport this habit a little:laughs:
Well Thats it.Pretty boring stuff.
Later Macojoe

Hey Folks,

I'm Rob, I'm in my mid-30', live in CT, and like John, I'm married to a wonderful woman who puts up with A LOT of crap from me!

I just started fishing again last year, after about 20 yrs off. Back in the day, I was a fresh-water basser but got the taste for salt last fall.

I'm almost done wrapping my first rod and hope to build another before I hit the surf this year. I'll also be fishing outta' a' yak' this season - Yellow Tarpon 160.

And... Although I missed the shin-dig, I WILL be harassing some of you in person this spring - so be forewarned! ;)

Regards,
Rob

Notaro 03-03-2003 01:30 PM

hey macojoe, welcome to the board. you have a boat? that's great because we all can stay on your boat for fishing. just kidding. so do you catch flounder on the railroad track behind maco's? are you still catching them now? behind the maco, i mean.

macojoe 03-03-2003 02:50 PM

Hey Notaro
You have not been able to catch flounder there for years now. But was great in the day. There might be some there but i have never got there in years.
Yes I have a 20 foot boat and would like to meet a few people from the board. I always have room for someone who wants to go.
Maybe a bunch of us guys who have boats can invite people who don't have boats and meet up somewhere for a day of fishing?
Any how if anyone would like to go to the vinyard sometime just email me and we will see if we can set something up. I usualy go commercial and have a boat permit that covers everyone on board. So pleanty of fish to go around.
Later Macojoe

Notaro 03-03-2003 02:52 PM

Hello to all. My name is Bob or Bull as the guys at work call me. I have been fishing for as long as I can remember. My father was a firefighter and fished commercially as side job. I have lobstered, longlined, gillnetted, scalloped, swordfished, and otter trawled (dragging). I skippered my own boats for many years when I was younger. Now Dad and I fish a small inshore scalloper.

Presently, I am employed full time as a Lieutenant with the Plymouth (MA) Fire Department. I work out of our Manomet Station. We are located about 300 yards from the beach. I retired 4 years ago from Boston Edison. I was employed as a Fire Protection Engineer at their Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station. I was able to spend many days before and after work catching stripers and blues at the discharge canal for the Plant. As a result of Sept 11 that freedom no longer exist.

Today I spend equal amounts of time fishing the Canal, Plymouth's many miles of coastline, and our large harbor. If you come across a 6'8" 300 plus pound guy in shorts, Plymouth Fire tank top, and sandals fishing any of the above locations come say hello. I'll be happy to show you around.
