Rods
2 50’s -one too many IMHO, how long is the mono, they might not allow the braid, you may want to call them
Smaller boat rod (braid)
Surf rod-why? they don't allow overhand casting

Tackle
Trolling lures- I think they only use their own
Squid jigs
Sabiki rigs
Diamond jigs
Tuna hooks/rigs
Shark hooks/rigs
60 and 80 lb Flouro (need heavier?)
Light sticks
Balloons

Equipment
Self inlflatable life jacket with strobe
Boat cushion
Pocket knife
Gimbel belt/harness
Gloves
Head lamp- not really needed, boat is all lit up
Crimp tool/mono cutters

missing- rain gear, warm clothes, can always take off,if you plan to sleep, sleeping bag and/or blanket, pillow

Fish On 09-08-2011 10:46 AM

TY! I had 1 rod restrung with the heavy stuff and I think 150 - 200 yds of mono top shot. I was planning to bring the 2nd 50 and have it rigged and ready for shark in case a big mako comes along and also as a backup if the first rod is out of commission. I guess you can tell, I'm the kinda guy who would rather have it and not use it than not have it and need it, but there is a limit. Thanks for the feedback.

Opens and 9AM and I think they are shut before 3PM. But you are right, no customer service, especially if you get the younger lady/girl! I left my e-mail to get the suggested bring list and still nothing...

Ice chest? I presume we need to bring one to bring home the spoils. Does anyone know if the boat can make ice or we have to have in the cooler (pre-chilled)?

niko 09-09-2011 05:34 AM

i'm just bringing a medium size cooler for food/drinks and fillets and a block of ice.

It seemed from the OTW show, if you bring a cooler on, it takes up your bench seat on the rail. With my feeble back which is bugging me this week, I'll need to alternate between sitting and standing. :wall: Check when you get there, can probably leave a cooler in the truck or bring it on.

Do we have a head count of SB'ers going on this trip?

I have a cooler with 120+qts of crushed ice. Should be enough for everyone to stock the coolers upon return to keep all the fillets/steaks cool for the ride home.:)

niko 09-09-2011 11:43 AM

There are 7 of us

Just spoke to them and they said it is a definate go. Boat leaves at 7 AM. Be there at 6.

ThrowingTimber 09-09-2011 02:33 PM

Capt. joe just called. They provide lead egg sinkers etc for bait fishing as well as hooks. jigs he said 4-8oz. Bait rods can be rented jigging rods bring your own. 100# mono for bait rods 80# is lowest suggested. He said he was calling Phil and Paul next. :)

fish4striper 09-09-2011 02:39 PM

They told Bill you could use braid if you had at least a 25ft mono topshot. I'm assuming this is on a jigging rod.

niko 09-09-2011 03:14 PM

I'm pretty excited. Thanks to everyone for coming, biggest fish gets a nice plug, one of kilsongs GT poppers

Hope they don't measure! Divided what fluoro I had left and put on 2 setups, maybe 20' on each.

These calls are nice but overdue and better done 2-4 days before the trip to answer questions. Of course the go/no go can only be done night before. See everyone nice and early.

Who's bringing the donuts?

RIROCKHOUND 09-12-2011 07:04 AM

how far east were you guys? Any idea

blondterror 09-12-2011 07:05 AM

What was the largest (longest and heaviest) fish boated?

ThrowingTimber 09-12-2011 07:06 AM

The pre trip planning was a bit rough because they dont have a gear list on their web site like the big jamaica does. Aside from that the boat was super spotless (before we got it all bloody). galley was clean. capt was awesome kept us on fish. facilities were super clean for a for hire vessel.

we had 21 anglers on the boat, broke it up into trolling teams of 7 with team sb up first (team 1). Not 10 minutes into the troll Bill Jr. had a skipjack and I had a mahi that went 12# after being iced and bled. We all commented that we hoped this would set the tone for the rest of the trip.. IT DID :uhuh::kewl:

I didnt get a bunch of pictures because I had candi's camera and havign my hands covered in mahi blood after minute 3 trolling I didnt break out the camera as much as I would have liked.

PRBuzz 09-12-2011 07:19 AM

FYI I started a second thread as a trip summary, maybe a mistake not to continue this one?
