Drove down to Chatham and picked up a spare generator from my cousin and my neighbor wired directly to my burner. Within a few hrs I had the house temp back up into the 60s. Was very worried about my water pipes.

Still have friends in town w/o power right now, sucks.

Mike, buy a generator. I bought a Generac, auto start wired right into the house. The whole house is on it complete with the well, furnace and all the rooms. I also have 2 wood stoves. I no longer am at the mercy of anyone. BTW, I have 25 gallons of gas as a backup for the generator and snow blowers. 15 gallons of diesel for the front loader and 2 cords of wood in the garage for the wood stoves. Another 5 cords stacked under tarpaulins.

Paul - you are certainly prepared!! After these past few days, I'll be buying a generator soon.

We went thru the whole stomr, and luckily did not loose power even though it pulled down and surged quite a few times. Had to go and pick up my nephew and his girlfriend in quincy once the lifted the driving ban as they lost power the night before as well.
took me 3 hours round trip from Brockton to Quincy which normally takes about 40 min.
Then today, storm over, boom lost power for about an hour, go figure.
But at least we were lucky and so far have no damage, neighbor down the street had a 30 ft pine tree uproot in their yard, thank goodness it missed their vehicles and hous.

Something I use to keep my pipes safe. A karosene heater. Home depot an many other places have them. Set it around mid setting an it will run for close to 12 hrs. Many gas stations have karosene an there is even a scent addative you can put in your fuel can like pine an so on.I've use one for years for the cold spots the wood stove won't reach. They aren't like the old ones that are very dangerous.Just keep a window cracked near them. I even use one to keep the dirty side of my hop heated.Hope this helps some. Ron

Yeah at least I have a gas fireplace in the living room. And I stole mike v's generator Sunday night and got the fridges plugged in before I lost the food.

Went out around 10 PM Friday night and got it back around 6 PM last night. House dropped to 40.
Once the hype calms down I will start looking for a generator, my part of town is always last to get power back.

power went out about 5pm friday, back on about 8pm last night. cable on about 9am this morn. three books, 2 big bottles of wine. house survived, three full days of conversing with wife and daughter:yak5: Wife recovering(she is a trooper)should have shipped her to her mothers though. Got damn cold down to 34 sunday morning. my neighbor came over and shared his gen a few hours each day. note to self...buy a F#*^%#@ generator. never again.

You should try living in the "Ghetto" section...I'm very surprised we got it back already. Historically in 8 years I've lived there the average outage has been 4 days ..

I've only been in town for the last 2 storms, the hurricane and this one, but you got power back sooner than I did both times. The neighbors around here said its always several days.
I wonder if its simply that our town is low on NG's list?

I dont know if there is a priority list to speak of but we always seem to lose power, and when we do its for 2 days minimum. Talking to a few people around town Pembroke has been that way for quite some time now. I wont think about it again until the next time, and I kick myself in the ass for not getting a generator again..

Swimmer 02-12-2013 03:35 PM

My brother-in-law texted us that his power only came back on at 1:23 p.m. today, the 12th, and he lives on Wellington Circle in Pembroke.

johnny ducketts 02-12-2013 04:06 PM

Lost ours again, 26 hrs ago, the lights just came back on. Whew!!! Generator here we come!
