reports of speedy green-backed fish blossomed from the "usual areas" in the last few days.......

the madness has begun

piemma 09-11-2016 05:47 AM

Brenton was rough yesterday AM. 4' with a shi$%y 2 foot chop on top of it. Live pogies on a 3 way with 4 oz of lead was the trick for Stripers. Had a really nice fish in the high 20s come unbuttoned right at the boat.
No Albies or Bones.
Better to have hooked and lost than not hooked at all.:hidin:

Rmarsh 09-11-2016 07:27 AM

I went out yesterday morning with my younger brother to find some fish. It was his first time on my boat and first time saltwater fishing.
The water was filthy dirty and a little choppy. We sighted a few small pods here and there but no hookups until late in the day, when I finally made a cast into the middle of a pod and got one. A little later on my brother got a nice keeper striper...his first ever!
Best part for me was seeing him having such a good time.

Rob Rockcrawler 09-11-2016 07:31 PM

I hooked and landed 5 today from shore and had a couple other blow ups. Got em all on a casting egg with a white red gill. They wouldn't touch any metal today and couldn't get the jumping minnow out far enough.

bassballer 09-12-2016 09:48 AM

Had 5 great shots from shore on sunday and couldnt stick one. Fun though. havent chased these guys from shore in a while. Enjoyed the hunt.

albythereforyou 09-12-2016 11:58 AM

I'm 3 for 3 so far from the shore with the fly rod :)

I have noticed the albies I've caught / seen caught so far are on the small side.

I'm hoping this full moon tide on friday brings in the motherload!

ProfessorM 09-12-2016 06:36 PM

Gup they are in your neighborhood heavy. Hope you were out today.

Guppy 09-13-2016 05:42 AM

I was out,,, about 40 miles to the SW,,, I'll check it out today, thanks

albythereforyou 09-13-2016 10:15 AM

Found the motherload and crushed them this morning from the kayak. 10 on the flyrod, and at least 8 on the spinning rod, I stopped counting...

Got 2 pigs on the fly, probably around 10-12 lbs. took me 20 minutes to bring those guys in, I was sweating after that!!!! :but:

Time for a nap! :sleeps::sleeps::sleeps: my arms are shot!

chefchris401 09-13-2016 11:04 AM

We did good today from the sand, which was a nice change of pace, board shorts and flip flops.

Out fished the boat guys which is always nice

Albie snax on weighted owner hook, albie snax on the new Joe baggs jigheads, hogy epoxy jigs and the bigfish savage tadpole, rebel jumpin minnow all worked today.

Love seeing a few break away from the pod to chase down topwater and crush it.

Was a nice morning. Was back home by 10am

Got on the board today. Hope the weather holds up and they stick around a bit.
Hit them from shore today and was planning yak tomorrow. Probably should have done it the other way around. Wind and surf are supposed to pick up tomorrow.

Nice vid! that's awesome, he will be hooked for life!

congrats everybody on funny fish! ALBEEEEEEEZ!!!! :)

I have issues I know. I'm ok with it

Sometimes these fish get fussy, when they do, (like yesterday for me, lots of boats there, about 6 other kayaks). I usually switch to a funky color called a tutti fruity, its either pink over chartreuse, or chartreuse over pink (which is what i like). my flies are simple, pattern doesn't matter, its just the color.

those 2 colors reflect a ton of UV light (or whatever companies use to die the materials that color), when I shine my UV flashlight on them (the one used for curing UV glue), they light up like a christmas tree. If you have one of those UV lights, shine it on various fly tying materials or even some lures and see the results.

it works for me, figured it might be worth mentioning!

bobber 09-14-2016 11:43 AM

the kid knows how to work a fish for sure!!

I'll have to try that, just got one of those lights this week.

You can also use em to find dog pee on your carpets!

Phew for a minute there I thought I was going to get lumped into that statement.
Much slower and way way more crowded today. Managed a few and felt very lucky I did.

Got a late start with son and grnd kids (little kids) , gramps, what's this?,, why? , what's that?,, why ? Don't touch!

BSB, scup, blue and a dog... The scup is still swimming in the eel pen in the garage... LOL , what it's all about!:humpty::wave:

Moses 09-18-2016 09:06 AM

Very crowded in all the spots I checked out yesterday but Albies were there. Only a couple to the boat for a few hrs fishing. Covered quite some ground too. Fly guys seemed to be doing best at every spot with amount hooked/landed.

I will be in Hyannis early tomorrow morning. Do I have a shot from shore anywhere? Craigsville?

If I lived up that way, I would go talk a walk on that big breakwall. One of those spots Ive always wanted to go fish, but never made it that far east.

I figured I would share my favorite pic so far this year, my moochy dog doing what she does best. for me nothing beats a fly rod shore caught alby, they have no place to go but out, into my backing everytime!

Sorry Spin, I was long gone when u post,,,
I'm definitely the wrong guy to ask about that,,, :-) but
Ummm, if I had to pick a spot, the jetty at Kalmars beach on the right day, things slowed down today considerably
Good luck

Think this wind will effectively kill any good shot of getting them from shore? I've made a few trips this year and had a few shots but haven't landed one yet. Picky fish or dirty water when I've found them.

I went 4 for 6 yesterday just blind casting once the boat crowds thinned out, however I did put in about 6 hrs. all mine came on a white and tan fly.

wind today looks good. the storm wednesday into thursday looks crappy for the inshore albies, some strong winds coming...
