Eben inspired me to actually make a little rack to hold the pluggage hanging from misc surfaces about my office. This way nothing will fall so the littlge guy will get too it.

1/4" stainless rods hung with large picture hangers. Seemed to work pretty well...hopefully next year will have more spence origionals.

I got some very early BM needles, Firstborns!, that I don't think even he remembers giving me.... should I take them out and have them pose????

I am sure if you are like me and love to see see all the great pic's that everyone is posting and you can not control your self, :)
sit back and relax and enjoy all the pic's .

Most of the collection's are from years and years of fishing and collecting. Don't take all your mad money and start investing in antique lures.
I just tracked a ebay bidder who I can tell is bran new to saltwater lures from Nov 16 till today he has spent $ 1457.57
on a bunch of junk! I only saw a few lures worth buying.

Don't get me wrong, I love to see more collectors getting into this
madness, I can name well over a doz from this chat page that started in the last 2 years alone.

My advice is to know your lures.
Ask questions,find a friend who has been doing this for years,we love to talk lures :)
Stay with one type of lure, or company. And buy cheap examples just to start a collection, you can always upgrade as you get going.
I know collectors who collect only one color in every model.
Another friend only collect NY made lures, Another only collect Stan Gibb's !
But you most always remember that condition is EVERYTHING.

Let's us this newbie collector as a example. WOW $ 1457.57 in less than 20 days. That's a house payment !!! A better investment ..lol all day long :)

Out of the 52 lures they bought I only would have bought 2-3 TOP'S The rest are examples, $$$$$ Examples
Alway's try to buy new in the box /save your money for that new in the box lure for 170.00. Not 30 beat-up repainted , blue fish lures for $1,000.00 that you would not even show your best friend.
Try to stay off #-Bay , If your going to start their ask the seller questions. Many a times when the mailman shows up and I open it up only to find a huge slice on one side of the lure :(

Try local auctions.
Yard sales,
Run a ad in the local newspaper.
Join NFLCC club (lure collectors)
But most of all have fun

It's gotten out of hand, hasn't it.

Good advise VB, That is why I got out of the old lures earlier this year. Now I collect customs. I believe these will be the collectibles of the future:)

be very carefull of collectors offering lure's for sale if you don't know what they're worth....

sad thing is these day's is it's getting to the point where only the well off can afford the mint stuff unless your lucky enough to come across someone who has something and they don't have a clue as to it's worth which is a rare thing.

ebay can be a good place to shop when your nabahood has been cleaned out by collector's before you......just be prepaired to pay or put your bid in only to what you think it's worth,,don't get caught up in a bidding war:smash: like I have done in the past....and don't have a fit when someone you know [at the last 3 sec's] outbid's you. they'll alway's be another that come's along[hopefully].

That is absolutely great advice VB! The most I ever paid for a plug was $300.00. I had to have it because it meant so much to me and it was only offered for sale to two people and the other insulted the seller by saying it wasn't worth that much. Lucky for me as I had first refusal and declined because at the time I just could not spare that much money even though I agreed with the seller that the plug was worth at least that if not more. I hung up totally depressed and the phone rang ten minutes later as I was sitting in my basement head in hand as my wife called down to me and said, "Steve, it's Stan on the phone".
Other than that truly I can say, on my life, I have never paid over 25.00 bucks for one single plug that I own. A lot were given generously by thier creators. I am not in it actively and haven't been for a long time. I think the market has gone stupid. If I see something at a yard sale or a flea market and it is reasonable I will buy it. There are tons of lures on Ebay that I would love to have ( just look at Bassdozers stuff) I do not own a single original Danny plug of any type. I would love to but I just can't see the numbers that are put up. There are those who do this as a business. To me, it's more and if I give something of which I have multiples of to someone, I, 99% of the time give it free of charge if I think they are deserving of it. Maybe someday some of the builders here will be looked on as classics. There are a few that I know will. I consider myself lucky to know them and have more than the plug to look at, I see more in the plug than just the plug itself, I see the man, I see the memories and I see a little of what made that man tick. I see the history and I want to be a keeper of it.;)

" I think the market has gone stupid" I agree,,for reels,beach permitt's, custom rods, house's, boat's, diamonds,land, machine made fishing tackle,,,,,but not something that for the most part that has been made by hand......If I'm wrong then bm's.Hab's,Mac's, tat's,beachmaster's, and all the rest that are making custom plugs shouldn't be selling for more than $4.99.
A gal. of gas is no long .89 cents..penny candy is long gone.
