Looking really nice Larry. When it's done, I think a cupola on top with one of these would be the nutz.

swing outs Larry.....no lights :bl:

BigFish 11-16-2005 10:13 PM

The overhead door is coming off Rattboy along with all the hangers and tracks...I want the overhead area open and uncluttered with lots of light. Not sure if I am going with a barn door type of thing or maybe a double french door....anyone know where I can find vintage looking swing out garage doors?

BigFish 11-16-2005 10:20 PM

Looking Great

Larry, you could build them doors, and do a fine job, I bet... herringone pattern, would look cool on them swingouts.

Charleston 11-17-2005 09:40 AM

If you build the doors do yourself a favor and use sheet stock. Texture-111 or similiar. If you use the material that you are using for the siding (Novelty type) the doors will always want to sag.
Get a couple of the rod/turnbuckle kits and have fun building them.

Windows trimmed out....the center window will be hinged for opening....do that this weekend!

I am really, really enjoying this! Its very rewarding to see how much different this is going to be and to have it come out just like I want it to! I need to make some plugs though.....I got the plug bug bad!

Larry, let me see if i can take a pic of the back of the barn doors i made for mine. Actually they are made with 1x8 pine mounted on 2x8 Z frame with 2 long hinges on each door. Work great, swing easy, and noooo sag. will take some shots tomorrow if you want.:)

Larry the cave is looking great

justplugit 11-19-2005 11:33 AM

Larry here are some shots of how i did my doors. The only problem i have with the swing outs is unless you close them all the time, they do get stained from the rain. You can get auto closers though. Hope this helps.

justplugit 11-19-2005 11:36 AM

Hinge and latch.

Charleston 11-19-2005 01:08 PM

A tip;
When building a door besure that the diagonal runner forming the "Z" frame originates from the top hinge. This will allow this diagonal piece to concentrate the weight of the door right to that hinge.
Vey nice looking garage/carraige house type building. I would give my left nut for a nice building like that!!!

justplugit 11-19-2005 04:11 PM

Thanks Sea-5, it took me 5 months to build after i retired workin 12/7 and replaced a 90 year old garage that had a sway back roof you wouldn't believe ready to colapse at any minute. :hihi:
