Always respected his posts and opinions. Seems like a really smart guy in general and a very knowlegable fisherman. God speed.

Sorry to hear. RIP Saltheart.

I was just working with him on designing a new custom. He was waiting for me to get back to him on some ideas. He was awesome to work with.

Sorry to see this. Sat with him at TFCTFN a few years back what a great smile. I always liked his site name Saltheart, kinda says it all big heart with a love for the ocean. Thoughts and prayers to all his friends and family.

He is well summed up in this thread - big smile, and always happy to share.

Mike's passing has had a profound effect on me. I suddenly realized how tenuous our existence is on this planet.

So, I made a decision earlier this week and this morning I submitted my letter of resignation to the company I currently work for. I'm going to retire for awhile and see where the journey takes me.

Things like Mike's passing do make you think don't they? Is it worth all the BS sometimes??? Take stock and if you are in such a position......adjust your life accordingly because time is short and getting shorter all the time! Enjoy Paul!:uhuh:

JohnR 02-28-2014 08:23 AM

Good job Paulie!

Wow! I don't come here often anymore but to check in once in a while and I was shocked to see him on the front page. I remember him from the WMI days, and he wrapped a rod for me years ago. He was a good guy and always had good information to share.
RIP Mike!

Swimmer 02-28-2014 11:41 AM

What an enormous impact this one individual had here. This place is small compared to the rest of his life. Imagine everywhere and everyone else he came into contact with and and try to grasp that level of influence. Wow!

Good luck, Paul. ;)

Now this makes me sad. Mike was one of the very first guys I met from this site when I was 11 or 12 years old. Always had a smile on his face and could talk to anyone about anything.

He's absolutely going to be missed.

chris L 02-28-2014 04:08 PM

OH MY GOD NO !!!! Mike is one of the best . Had a lot of fun with Mike and Smokey .

Mike I will see you on the other side have a place waiting for me and we will wet one together .

so sorry to hear
Thoughts go out to his family and all his friends .

Tagger 02-28-2014 04:26 PM

Very sorry to hear this . First met Mike at Slip's shop .. Nice guy . I showed Mike a rod I wrapped and he looked closely at and said I did good . Felt good coming from a master builder . Not sure if he was just being polite . First impression was, he was a great guy and my 1st are always right . RIP Mike .. 60 too young .

Steve K 03-01-2014 09:41 AM

I am shocked and saddened by this. He was truly an ambassador to this sport. I met him once at one of the early gatherings. He built a rod for me and some skin jigs. He gave great advice and realized that fishing is not about competition but camaraderie. It does make you take stock in what you have. I need to make some changes. God speed Saltheart
