Fished in a new spot for me.. where I have seen many boats over the past week .. so many it looked like race point at times . so today after getting my pogies i decide to check it out.. flat structureless bottom 17 ft no bait in the area i can see
set out my free swimming pogie I hook up!!! nice 30 in fish .. now I am thinking ok they most be cruising the flats set out my 2nd pogie 10 mins later I have a small fish chasing it on top takes a swipe at it . then a 2nd fish blasted the pogie and I was hooked up 46 in 38 lbs beast with fresh sea lice sadly she inhaled that pogie and was gut hooked .

2018 has been a great year... schoolies arrived last month and the fishing has been hot everywhere ever since.... blue back herring are in the river in numbers like the 70's and guess who's come to dinner.. last night( every night this week) I found big girls dripping with lice...lots of them in old haunts they haven't been in in 10 years.. and from what is being posted just about everyone is getting in on them in a variety of places..it's like old times.. I'm really excited about the night time high tides next week... here is one of 11 ( most the same size 40 - 45") I took from 7 until dark.. I haven't used an eel yet... thin profile plugs trolled or cast to surfacing fish and jigs tipped sluggos are doing big business when the fish sound.

Nice to see these large fish bypass the canal gauntlet. I hope they go home the same way.

How about a fish pic with a covering of panko? Peg wanted fish, I told her I'd be back in two hours, one of the perks of living in south Plymouth during the sea bass run. Left the house at 12:30 and was back by 3 with a nice limit of sea bass and I think they were the tastiest of the year so far. Nothing like BSB rolled in egg and covered in a mix of panko and Chef Paul's blackened red fish magic.

Some boats look better with rust,,,, definitely not yours

Got Stripers... I will give that recipe a try.....looks tasty!

When I built my boat six years ago, my focus was to target striped-bass. But the sea-bass fishery has really gotten my attention. My family, including my 98 year old MIL, who sits down for dinner with us every night.... agrees that black sea-bass taste and texture is better than striped bass.

I still fish from shore a few times a week, and do pretty well catching stripers, but now its mostly C&R.

My son's girlfriend with her first ever sea-bass.

I have yet to even think about stripers, the window for none top sea is brief and in a week from now they will start to drop out to cooler water and I like to fill my freezers with vacuum sealed sea bass and tog for good eating all winter. Cracks me up when I see in one of the latest OTW articles, that they state sea bass don't freeze well, I suspect they are idiots or not doing it right. Thawed out in their bags slowly in cold water, it's just like fresh all year round; I still have two bags of tog to go from last October. You don't need a lot of Chef Paul's, I dust the top of the panko I have on a small plate then stir it around with a fork to mix before pressing the egg coated filets in, then the key is a hot hot skillet of canola oil.

sure is George... I ran onto a pod of bass 5 miles off the beach on my way back from haddock fishing Saturday.. there had to be acre of busting fish pushing tinker mackerel out of the water... all 18 - 20lbs... at one point I took the hooks off a 6" pencil and just let them knock it around.. it was more fun ( and legal) than catching them... best part... not a boat in sight!.. those fish are headed to Maine!

Nothing is more exciting For me anyway then having a Big Bass chase and smash your pogie free swimming !!! had another productive morning was able to get 3 pogie and hook up with all 3 1st one thew the hook not far from the boat did some serious surface thrashing and head shakes , 2nd fish was smaller not as much drama and the 3rd a 44 in nice lip hook released looked like a dog chasing a cat and the cat lost .. and it was cooler than expected hence my outfit

It is refreshing that the first push seemingly went around, but the truly large haven’t even arrived yet. Will be interesting to see where they make landfall once they get tired of chasing mojos. Hopefully they’re smart like their younger brethren and will avoid getting stuck in the face multiple times with magic swimmers

You got it! Hit it today for another short one hour tour and while it was blowing hard and bumpy, I had my limit quick and was back home at the filet table in short order. Took me longer to drive to and from and clean fish, than it did to catch the limit. Our favorite meal tonight BSB and sweat potato fries.
