Mine are all wired up, but I'm gonna hold them for another day, Newelly, if that's alright... the mirror coat is nice, but it thinned out a bit on some of the plugs and dimpled in a few spots... nothing major, but I recoated all the plugs, to be safe, and they'll need the extra time to harden up. I'll ship 'em out tomorrow, priority, so you should have them in your hot little hands by Friday.

Just by way of reference, it might be nice if each of us would post here, what size hooks are recommended for optimum performance on their swap lure... on mine, a 2/0 4x treble up front and bucktail dressed 4/0 siwash on the rear. Depending on what brand of hooks you use, they'll add another couple of tenths of an ounce to the overall weight, and bring the total fishing weight (on mine) to somewhere's just under 2 ounces.

bassmaster 12-15-2003 11:39 AM

start out with vmc 1/0 on mine and a 3 or a 4/0 siwash on the tail

Getting there...

chumbucket 12-16-2003 12:36 AM

Glad you like 'em NG, and thank you for handling the swap this year. We appreciate it.
On my plug if you want to hook it up vintage striper plug style, I suggest 4/0 or 5/0 3x strong crimp-on cut Mustad trebles. If you prefer VMC's, 5/0, 4/0 and a 6/0 or 7/0 siwash on the tail (if you can find 'em).

Chumeister...... you painting telephone poles, again? Hope I've got a rod that can handle it. Is it under 4oz.?

Canalman 12-16-2003 10:45 AM

Hooks for mine... I use a 1/0 VMC treble up front and a 4/0 Siwash dressep up a bit in the back.

I must offer a disclaimer with mine. I used you guys as Guinea Pigs :D The plugs are made out of cypress and I tried a new glitter finish idea so the plugs feel a little bumpy. They will definately catch though... I spent countless hours making protos to get the weighting right etc. I am really excited to get the others!!!!!

tobias 12-16-2003 11:01 AM

I prefer 3/0 VMC for the front and a 5/0 dressed siwash for the back. Looking forward to seeing everyone's creations.

PASurfer 12-17-2003 11:23 AM

Well, they're on their way. I'm satisfied with how they turned out, and I hope you guys find them acceptable. They're a shape I've been tweaking since August, and made from AYC, although I'm not 100 percent settled on the wood... I plan to work with it some more this winter, as weather permits... "Caribbean schoolbus" can be fished at night, but is probably a first light through mid-morning choice.

Newelly, thanks for hosting this swap,:btu: and where's my box of lures, already? :p

Christian 12-17-2003 03:49 PM

epoxy setting.

chumbucket 12-17-2003 10:32 PM

The anticipation is killing me, just like Ketchup

MAC 12-17-2003 10:47 PM

Well seeing as no one has seen these works of art but me and Chum I can tell you that they weigh 4.4 ozs with 4/0 mustads and a 6/0 siwash w/ bucktail. Sorry can't post a picture as I want everybody to be waiting in anticipation:D

MAC 12-17-2003 10:48 PM

Canalman 12-22-2003 10:57 PM

You guys are incredible! Chum - you blew me away! I am having trouble deciding whether to fish some of these or not. I'd be interested to know what each of you used for clearcoat. Christian - I love the plug and I can't not use it I know I'm gonna take some nice fish this spring on it. EP - I have to fish yours too - way too intrigued! But seriously... excellent excellent stuff.

Did anyone notice that BMs plug smells like a big mac? Go ahead.. smell it.

Thanks NG.. Here's wishing you a speedy recovery from your operation!

-DAve

chumbucket 12-22-2003 11:11 PM

I used Enviro-tex Lite on my swap plugs.
I tried Sys-3 clearcoat on a few other plugs before this swap & it was a real mess. Lots of small bubbles that didn't want to go away, weird curing that set quick on the surface but not below the surface. I think the two bottles were too cold as I store them in a cooler part of the cellar.:smash:
