If I told you how far I've been running to be on these fish you wouldn't believe me. This year continues to be pretty cool.

Lost my first 3 of the day, and then got two. Late afternoon. Dropped one of them at my feet. They were pretty good sized today. No boats to #^&#^&#^&#^& up the shore fishing, just one diver. Time just evaporates when these fish are around. If only work went by as fast!
Still hoping to get one more Bonito for dinner before it's done. Will try an Albie for dinner if I mess one up bad enough. They told me years ago that bluefish was horrible, so.. Will give it a shot. |
Popponessett to nobska was dead again today, a few pop ups but very shy

You don't always have to see them. I got one the other morning and the sun hadn't even broken the horizon yet. I was actually slowly popping an area that normally holds bass when I was pleasantly surprised by a solid 10#er.
|
From the surf people seem to loose them a lot. I don't seem to loose many from the boat. Once in awhile one will pop loose boat side. Do you surf guys use a lot of drag? Just wondering
Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
should be - same drag as you would have on a boat Paul
FYI guys - you don't always "see them" on shore - blind cast. Has worked for me & others in the past :btu: Of course 1 fish per 800 casts :spin: |
I'm using medium drag but on 2500 size reels on pretty light rods

Lost 2 today in boat. 1 brand new lure too.

4000 size reel on the shore/rocks, 275 yards of 20lb braid, light drag.
Has been a blast the past 5 days. Think I'm up to 28 landed, a bunch of hook ups and hits and only one lost lure and fish that wrapped around some deep rocks at my feet. I've just been blind casting for the most part. Every day I've gotten at least one to eat small popper by Bigfish. That hit is just epic. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
Dialed in now. 5/5. All blind casting from the rocks. if I were smart I'd call it a season and end on a high note since there is nowhere to go but down. Lol

Got into them for first time this week. Lost a few before I got the drag light enough then landed one. Very different than what I'm used to but think I got the drag thing down now. When it was too tight I was dropping them after the first run when they turned. Hoping to get back down once or twice morethis season. Long drive for me but worth it.

Had a tough morning. Dropped two out of my last 3 after scoring my first four. Woe is me. :hihi:
I fully expect my current spot to be blown up this coming Thursday, anyway. Quote:

they have arrived (but not in big numbers) in the eastern CT area as well......
they were very tough to get to chew yesterday- had multiple shots into breaking fish with only 1 to show for it |

I hooked up to one blind casting a Professor stainless needle in the canal last Tuesday right in front of Paul, first time in the canal or from shore for me. Unfortunately it came off at my feet.

West of the Cape...
Wind did not have as much of a negative effect as I thought it would. In fact, it cleared out most of the fishers and the motorboats on Monday and was a definite attribute if you were able to position yourself correctly on the rocks. The fish were still in close. So close in fact, that if you cast 30 feet out that was too far for most of them that came up.
Managed 3, should have been 5. DB acquaintance of mine managed 7 out of 8. 80% certain that one of the ones I lost was a Bonito. Every fish of mine hit within 15 feet of the rocks. Some nice 30-40 inch bass around as well. Didn't care all that much and probably won't until the funny ones disappear. Bass were following the larger 8-10 inch pogies while the green fish cut through the the 3-5" peanuts. |
You are certainly having a hell of a year.
