Caught on one of my own plugs, it was a diving danny, blue/ white dip I made over the winter. 40" fish about 24lbs. felt good to finally catch something bigger than the 16" fish that the river is full of!

ProfessorM 06-14-2008 06:29 PM

Great job. Like your boat. Excuse me for being a slacker:doh: and will get you the things I promised this Spring this off season if that is ok. Any extra time I have now, which is little, I have to fish. Hope you understand.

GooGoo Man 06-15-2008 10:24 AM

Paul, thanks for the compliments, It is a 20' lund alaskan w/ a 50hp honda (it is very frugal on fuel) an awesome striper machine. I totally understand, so many fish, such little time.

That is a skinny danny (though really more of a donny shape). Been a good plug for me and a few others. AYC, Lefty 2 mid slot, and the weight a little aft of center. About 3oz. Casts well, swims at very slow retrieves, rolls a ton (it actually will do barrel rolls with a sharp twitch). You can't pop it. Stays barely subsurface and doesn't leave much wake. I'd expect it to suck, but it has become one of my most productive plugs. Go figure. Here is a close up with a fish a lurker named Earlybird took. As an aside, the conrad jr's have proven to be very useful as well, particularly off jetties.

Thanks..
Just barely subsurface is a good place to fish..

Clogston29 07-01-2008 06:47 AM

indeed. i always fished swimmers that swam on top at night, then went to a McKenna presentation where he talked alot about keeping your presentation subsurface, even if only an inch or two. I tried it and my results improved, especially in terms of size. Now the problem is finding good subsurface swimmers. Juniors and loaded redfins are my favorites so far, with the exception of conrads in deep enough water.

Slow where I was today. Worked hard for this one. My oldest son home for the summer, just getting into fishing (now that soccer, girls, college, drinking and job are all covered). Took a Jigman-copy spook. Sweet plug.

ProfessorM 07-04-2008 05:54 PM

Excellent fish and plug. I got one but have not been lucky enough to catch with it yet. My Howdy copies have been too productive most mornings to change to something else but i know it will catch by the action it has and the accolades it has gotten.

Stop that silly talk .. Stripers love that plug .. Plain and simple one of the best striper catching plugs there is .. both the large and the small .. Can't praise you enough for coming up with that (long casting., fish catching ) design..

Met a fishing bud early this am ,, loving that black bomber ..

ProfessorM 07-18-2008 07:28 PM

johnny ducketts 07-19-2008 06:52 AM

ah G. it is just a home made knock off hunk of stainless. I used the chrome one. They are all homemade. I can't see spending and losing a 35 dollar lure. Easy enough to make myself. I just buy the weights which they sell separate. Bitch is bending the stainless. They do work real well for big fish as I have gotten several over 45 the last several years, but you really need to use wire which most people hate. The fish I got last week swallowed the whole lure which is the first time i had that happen. Usually you don't get a real good hook up because of the wild action of the lure. I never count on a spoon caught fish until it is in the boat as i have lost some beauties right at boat side because of crappy hook ups.

Way cool. I've always wanted to catch something on one of those. Got a couple of Reliable versions, and fooled with them once or twice, but never seriously fished them. Wire doesn't bother me, I kinda like it actually, but haven't done any trolling for some years now. Used to be my go to method for big bass. Getting an itch to try it again. Have you dragged any of those slopeheads you built?

ProfessorM 07-19-2008 07:50 PM

Yeah G. they work real well sometimes. Been the only thing working for me so far. Most times if you are lucky enough to hook up it is usually a good fish. Rod is important too with them. I have not tried any of the slopeheads yet but maybe in the near future if the T&W fishing does not get better for me. I do have few in my tackle trunk.

Yep, he lulls them into a false sense of security, then slacks them with a spoon when they're not looking :uhuh::grins::fishin:

Nice looking spoons too!

It ain't 45, and Sauerkraut did me @ 10lbs better, but this one felt good.....first night of vacation.....first real trip in a while.......tough spot......and it ate a lazyfish to boot. Fried my camera, though.

Mr. Krinkle 07-27-2008 08:42 PM

nice fish!

SAUERKRAUT 07-29-2008 08:39 PM

Numby: I have my photos in my PC and STILL don't know how to Attach it because the pic is huge megapixels, with mygood camera and technical prowess; but it needs to be dumbed down to 800x800 for Attachment here. Obviously, I know how to dumb myself down a lot easier than dumbing down a PC pic.

Trip hosted by Numbskull. I left the eels behind. The pictures are two different fish; in fact two different needles. Numby doesn't give me white plugs; so, I am forced to go out and buy them.

The Fish: 36-3 47" and 24-0 41"

The Plugs: SG Needle and a Gag's 9" Needle. Both rigged single treble only. No tail hooks.

All fish released, of course. Yet I practically kill myself pursuing them.

Bonds to all who love them enough to release them.

numbskull 07-30-2008 02:39 PM

You look better in the first photo.

Will I get Bonds If I release em..

Flaptail 07-31-2008 09:58 AM

In Jersey that means a bail bond, up here it means something totally different.:uhuh::rotf2:
