Got 1 yesterday in RI. Saw a lot of activity but most of what i saw was schoolies.

I'll be out and about Monday. Searching for bones and some bass then togging.

Correction. I said i got 1, after looking at pictures of a bonito that's what i got. I thought something was different about the fish. 8 lb, toothy bastard. Also got a number of schoolies and 2 tog 7-5lbs respectively. Awesome day on the rocks.

I did happen upon a pod of 30-38" bass yesterday PM. Didn't care all that much and went looking elsewhere for the green fish. lol |

I caught a million baby bones at Wood End on Saturday. Boy was I surprised!
If one of them would have been just like 2 pounds bigger, it would have been pretty fun. I've never seen so many in one place....crazy, then they were gone! |
Surprise

The surf forecast did not look good for the next few days so I take a trip down to Rhody y'day for first light. I decide I better fish for some bass before hitting up the Albies.
I'm on the beach and after I catch a few 30" bass and 5-10lb blues on top I notice some small baitfish being harassed in the wash. I keep an eye on that for awhile and decide to throw some light stuff in the vicinity. I grab my Albie rod and this is the result. 2nd cast. Where I usually get them has been rocky shore, so it was nice to let them run a bit on an open beach. After being unable to catch them in August I can't get away from these things now! :hihi: The surf forecast does not look good: 6-8 foot waves til Sunday due to the hurricane which certainly means dirty water and weeds for a bit after that. |
are they still around down there?
|
I won't know til tomorrow. maybe somebody else does.

Ok, will do going forward. Lets just tell ourselves they were sub-legal stripers and we'll all sleep better because they were going off from 1 to sundown :hidin:

Only found little striped fish yesterday. No green fish seen despite lots of their favorite bait around and many fly rodders. If it's not over now, it will be very soon with this weather I suspect - at least for us shore guys. :(
Two positives: I was unable to hit my 'go to' spot yesterday and the water was very cloudy so the conditions were far from optimal. |
You boat people might be able to find a few pods around in Rhody. For me, it's been impossible to get through all the short bass that are around. I'm not about to catch and release 50 shorts for the hopes of one Albie.
A couple days ago green fish were seen breaching way too far out. Probably caught my last funny this year. :bc: It was a good run though. Hope they come back around again in about 300 days. Have to admit it was nice fishing in the day light for a change. Time to focus on the large striped fish I think. |
