I thank you for the u know what:D bird's eye maple..cherry....maghogany ..black walnut an birch.....I gotta get up to mac's neighahood to get some reelly odd wood for others.

likwid 09-07-2004 10:00 PM

There's a lumber yard up in Somerville that I get my marine plywood from that has alot of really nice stuff.

Teak/Mahogany/burlwood etc.

If you need some teak (speaking of which) I got a ton of scraps that would be perfect size for laminating for plugs or maybe just turning needles straight out of. :hihi:

Nebe 09-07-2004 11:11 PM

correct me if i'm wrong, but if you laminated your plugs with a dense heavy wood on one side and a light bouyant wood on the other, could you get away without using a belly weight?

Crafty Angler 09-08-2004 03:48 AM

Hubba hubba :humpty:

capesams 09-08-2004 05:38 AM

I should think you could do that,,along with the hooks, it may keep it from rolling out when working the plug........most wood squids that I've seen want to be fished on the surface,,,, splashing around.

Adam R 09-08-2004 06:56 AM

That's how my avitar plugs are made... no lead, so they're safe in California.;) Two thirds light, one third heavy... works everytime.

What type of glue do you use and how does it not beat up your lathe tools?

beachwalker 09-08-2004 04:45 PM

west system epoxy ,2 part..#105......doesn't seem to hurt the knifes at all....great glue.

thefishingfreak 09-08-2004 11:00 PM

Jigman 09-09-2004 07:37 AM

Very nice :kewl:

Jigman

justplugit 09-09-2004 09:17 AM

CS,have you ever tried the 105 as a clear coat?

capesams 09-09-2004 09:25 AM

not to date I haven't......as with most epoxy glues an c.coat, it will yellow fast...when mixing the glue there's just to much air in it an I don't think you'll ever get it all out, makin it look abit foggie.

justplugit 09-09-2004 09:28 AM

Thank you:) Sounds right, too bad, that stuff is really tough.

I paid a visit to the "shrine" last night, visions of pluggage still swim in my head :D

Saw that ones twin , and an offering at the alter, of my pluggage was accepted, not worthy, but, accepted

capesams 09-10-2004 05:40 PM

Karl F 09-10-2004 05:51 PM

Sorry CS, my wife has informed me that's gonna be my signature.
I told her it's hers, after all, she came up with it. If she ever asks me to teach her how to use the lathe, I'm all done, she is very talented.
