The greatest ever !!!

I found it again http://youtube.com/watch?v=lv0-9Wi713o&feature=related I don't know how to get it to work but it is still on youtube |
Thanks Ronnie :D
That gave me goosebumps He was absolutely the best ever no question he was better than even Gretsky. I wish hockey didn't get ruined, I miss it but they don't make players like Orr anymore, I can't believe the things he was able to do.:lurk: |
[QUOTE=Slipknot;459619]Thanks Ronnie :D
That gave me goosebumps He was absolutely the best ever no question he was better than even Gretsky. No question, Gretsky was great ( on offense ) but Orr was great at every part of the game, offense, defense, and could fight!!! |
#4 ruled!!! he was in a class by himself!
|
WOW!!!
Thats the only way to describe him! Ronnie....best link I have ever clicked on...thanks for that! He sure was the supreme stick handler and his sense of timing and his surroundings were the most incredible any hockey player has ever had! Without a doubt the greatest hockey player in history....and we were blessed to have had him here in Boston!:btu: |
Yes he was, :crying:
I met him several times a great guy! Try telling kids that they never had helmets back then ! LOL VB |
Not only the greatest hockey player ever in my opinion,
But one of the greatest role models ever!!! probably the most humble star ever, unlike the typical all about me and my money athlete of today! I feel very gratefull to have been able to grow up watching him play! |
"The goal" is actually the first memory I have of Orr and he was the reason I started playing hockey, like every kid at that time. I wish I could have seen him when he first started with the B's but I was just a baby.
The best ever. |
The parts with him getting back when the goalie was pulled are simply incredible
|
Robert Gordon Orr was the greatest hockey player of all time. That would have been true no matter what position he played. If you put the pads on him he would have been the greatest goalie of all time. He could skate as well as any forward in the NHL, even the Golden Jet.
Put Gretsky back on the blue line instead of center and see how he'd do. Or at wing, where he'd have to go into the corners with tough defensemen ;) |
My father quit watching Hockey after he left Boston.....He used to watch the Bruins religiously and then.....nothing. Don't think he's watched more than a handful of games since
|
How many times have we heard "The next Bobby Orr", but it hasn't happened yet.
|
My vote would go to Gordie Howe as best all around player.
He also could kick some a$$ :) |
My boyhood idol. Revolutionized the game from that position, although he could have played anywhere and been the best. A real class act even to this day. Too bad medicine wasn't as advanced as it is now or he would have played a lot longer. Remember when Boston was a Hockey town. The B's owned Boston. I'll bet you Bobby Orr still has never payed for a meal or a beer in Boston to this day. Hockey was on national TV every Sunday. I played street hockey all summer long. I remember being at the Garden at a game with the Black Hawks, Mikita, Hull, ect.. and it was his 22nd birthday. He won the game in the last seconds on an ice length rush.I still have the record "Goal Bruins" somewhere after they won the cup. Wow time flies. Sorry for the long winded response but really brings back some great memories. Life is too short. P.

I keep watching that link......just amazing the way he played...unmatched intensity and skill! You can argue alot of other sports "who" was the best.....in my opinion there is no equal to Bobby Orr!:btu:
Think I will watch it again right now! |
Yup! Never gets old!:wiggle:

Let it be known that I never had a chance to watch Maurice Richard play, so he could affect that all-time team in a big way. :humpty: Orr and Larry Robinson at defense. No doubts there. And the Octopus in goal. |
Don't forget Espo. Game is so different nowadays. I long for the more violent game of canadian hockey. The European style is not my bag. I like the keep your head up or get killed style of hockey that I grew up on. Plus like all sports nowadays the leagues are so watered down now with all the teams involved that it makes for a very boring mediocre game. Bring back the original 6 teams. To me that is when there were rivalries and allstar's 3 shifts deep. The Habs and Bruins had everything Yank's Sox's have. Now just ain't there. Unfortunately you can't go back in time and I will just live on my hockey memories of late 60's and 70's. It will never be the same.
|
methinks the leagues in big trouble and bettman must go! want the fans back? bring back intense old time hockey- doh nhl- just do it! i USED to love hockey.......now i can't watch it....i know i'm not alone....pisses me offf bigtime...oh yeah- sorry for the rant...
|
Believe it or not....I used to watch hockey....back when the Bruins were BAD! Not bad like they are today....I man "BAD"!:hihi: After Bourque and Neeley left....we had nothing since?!?!?!?!
|
When you're evaluating the greatness of Gretsky, bear in mind that he was skating against defensemen, and shooting at goalies, who would have had a hard time making it in the AHL back in the 60s and early 70s ;)
Even the first round of expansion in the late 60s didn't dilute the talent the way it's been diluted today. |
No doubt, Gordy Howe was one of the best ever, but I don't think he could skate with Bobby Orr.
Gretsky and Mario Lemieux would have had a tough time playing in the 60s & 70s the way the game was so much more physical! |

NHL is in big trouble!!! What were they thinking going to OLN !!! |
Thanks for posting that Ron, that was fun to watch. He truly revolutized hockey and his position, and while both Gretzky and Howe were amazing offensive players, I never felt either had revolutionized their position.
In watching that another Orr video came up as recommended, kind of nice seeing what the likes of the Golden Jet and Clarke(his comment struck me as perfect-"he did it with grace, elegance,....and modesty")thought of Orr: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1fMc...elated&search= P.S. Watching Hull talk with that square jaw ........trying to remember........was it Ferguson of the Canadians who broke Bobby Hull's jaw? |
R/R

Not many of todays players could of held their own back then. Neely comes to mind as someone who would have fit right in.
