Seasicknes is a three stage occurance
Stage 1) PRAYER Oh God don't let me get sick in front of these guys I'll never hear the end of it. Stage 2) FEAR oh God I'M gonna die Stage 3) Take me now Lord. You finaly realize that your not going to die but you wish you would. Welcome to the clan BM. My youngest is known around the docks in Gloucester as the Barfrocket. He didn't do well on a cod trip either. Now he only fishes the beach. |
Never Chucker but came close a couple times... I might have on the ill-fated S-B cod trip a couple years ago :yak:

I heard that he hurls sawdust.:yak6: Nothing worse than being sick when you want to fish. My fishing buddy sppent a half day feeding the fish on the Seven B's last July, now I'm afraid he will never go again.
|
I've never lost it and I've been in #^^^^& that would make even the strongest stomachs hurl. The closest I came was the Haterus storm, 52 foot racing sloop finishing up the Bermuda Circuit I was on the crew bringing her back to NY. Those were 60+ foot seas, way outide, 2 hour watches and then down below. I don't know if anyone has been on a racing sloop before, well it ain't the Ritz and when your in a hanging bunk, while the bow of the boat is rising and fallling 20 feet constantly, you feel it. I came close a few times, but never lost it. Dave up and down, follow me, up and down, no further up and down, come on Dave, up and down.
|
hey dave
aint you one of those guys who say fish caught from a boat don"t count because it's too easy. :D . i've been there" :crying: it sucks.:yak: :yak: :yak: |

I live for that stuff.. 5 Marion-Bermudas 6 Newport-Bermudas Love it to death. Think you're gonna hurl? Just get down on the low rail... hurl away then dunk your head quicklike.... all clean! Surefire way to get yourself to get it over with? Warm can of Coke CHUG it. Ready Aim BARF! |
I'm gettin' sick just reading this chit. :yak:
|
worst time at sea
anchor watch in the torpedo room the very front of the sub little up and down motion for hours and I had to sit there with headphones on with nothing to do but dwell on that little up and down motion oh my god i thought i was gonna die with that little up and down motion:D
|
Oh dude, the worst of all worlds...vertigo AND claustrophobia! :yak: :yak: :yak: :yak:
|
What GS forgot to add was how a race boat with crews numbering anywhere from 8 to 30 tend to get, shall we say, RIPE down below? Especially in the southern waters, after a couple of days, throw in some salt water, a couple sick crew, maybe some diesel in the bilge now all over the deck sole!!!! Yup, and our Bubba was on the head as we fell off a wave, snapped it off clean. This BN is retired.
|
After the 2nd day you don't notice the stench down below anymore.
:D |
DONT THINK ABOUT IT !!! the worse thing you can do is constantly think about being sick and swell action .
its the UpAnDdOwNuPaNdDoWnUpAnDdOwN that you DONT want to think about it . Ive been out in the chit alot in Dec and Jan storms cod fishing and have weathered well . SO far ! My buddy had a problem constantly breaking them off on those that got sick , claiming " I never get sick Im a fishermen " . well his day came in not so violent seas and he blew chuncks all over . I still bust his chops some 20 years later . Never break balls on those that do and never say never cause some day it will happen and thats the 4th guarentee . right in between eat , chit, and die ! just watch out for the UpAnDdOwNuPaNdDoWnUpAnDdOwNUpAnDdOwNuPaNdDoWnUpAnD dOwNUpAnDdOwNuPaNdDoWnUpAnDdOwN by the way all this talk of Dave how did Notaro fair with the fish ? |
I think fatigue plays a factor in getting seasick too. The more tired you are, the more susceptible you will be to getting seasick. This is just based on my own experience.
Dave didn't get much sleep the night before - having gotten up at 4 a.m. to make the trip up to Quincy. In retrospect I wasn't surprised he got sick - just wish we had prepared for this contingency beforehand. Oh well, next trip... |
Wendy's double cheese burgers and ocean swells just don't mix. Especially when the boat is just sitting still rolling with the swells...
The best cure for sea sickess is a little puff of... um... uh.. well, you know! And thats coming from someone who hates the stuff. |
:hidin: :yak: :zup: :yak5: :yak6: :yak4: :scream: :scream:
all of U wise arses better hope I dont get You on the sand  |

Well, Joseph, to be fair, once Dave started feeling sick there wasn't anything you could have done to reverse the inevitable. That's why it's important to be prepared before the boat leaves the dock...
|
I agree with you. My dad once gave me a dramine on the boat when I got a seasickness. It didn't work. The only thing worked for me is to sleep it off for a full day.
