JohnR 11-23-2003 10:29 PM

fish...

IFG 11-23-2003 10:32 PM

Good during the herring run when people are fishing live herring around you I prefer the pogie color in this situation.

Now when bunker is around during the day pearl
the twilight gold
at night purple
If you own stripers in paradise ou'd know why I let fish'n Dive field that one

The Dad Fisherman 11-24-2003 12:03 AM

Caught a ton of schoolies and 3 keepers on the 4" pearl this year in the fall. Tried the bunker and mackerel colored but with not much luck.

Also noticed that the Pearl seemed to be the choice w/ most of the guys I bumped into

InshoreAngler 11-24-2003 07:57 AM

yea most of mine on 4" pearl...6" bunker rocks too

Christian 11-24-2003 08:00 AM

lots of fish. bunker color, the big ones, not the huge ones with 2 hooks.

fishweewee 11-24-2003 08:16 AM

The blue 6 inch shads are DEADLY (day/night) when stripers are feeding on scup.

srfcstrrpc 11-24-2003 08:38 AM

mostly schoolies from the 4" Bunker and 4" pearl , a few nice fish from the the 5" and 6"er's

Big Vern 11-24-2003 09:44 AM

Tons of schoolies, a good number of keepers, bluefish galore:af:, fluke, and most incredibly a 40 lb. tarpon. :D

RIJIMMY 11-24-2003 09:44 AM

Tons of schoolies in the bway ponds on the 4" shads.

Roop 11-24-2003 11:19 AM

Multiple keepers, dogs, cod, a spanish mack destroyed one my daughter was using..

beachwalker 11-24-2003 11:41 AM

Lost a monster in the channel this summer. Bent the hook out.

SO BUMMED.

Those little things are special for matching the feed and getting it down there.

Still hurting from losing that one. Felt like the biggest I ever had on the other end ! :exp: :exp: :exp:

HighTide 11-24-2003 12:24 PM

Caught a few schoolies. 4" pearl

Steve K 11-24-2003 12:28 PM

Besides stripers, a sea robbin.

4" pearl storm wildeyes

Used these almost exclusively this fall. Multiple bass up to 34" and once I attached a wire leader almost as many blues. A great lure to use off the beaches!

ThrowingTimber 11-25-2003 08:23 PM

schoolies, had a gator blue rip the hook outta the lead. Fished it for a bit then realized the blue had ripped the hook away from the lead.

macojoe 11-25-2003 08:31 PM

I might have caught something if I took the darn hook cover off :smash: :smash:
I used them just one time this year and it was at the end of the season. I threw it over and got a few hits, but no fish??

I never thought of using them on fluke?? I will have to give it a try!! I caught some nice Fluke on live Scup this summer.

missing link 11-25-2003 08:49 PM

bloo fish cut mine into peices

Backbeach Jake 11-25-2003 09:04 PM

My neighbor and I had a duel with those things. We caught 20-25 schoolies 24 -26 inches in about 30 minutes! Giggling like little boys . Great lures!

bluefish 11-26-2003 07:56 PM

I personally had the most success with the sardine color. Why? I don't know. I do know that often enough to notice, the smaller version did better than the larger.

bluefish 11-26-2003 07:58 PM

P.S. I've caught more bass than blues I think. However I was surprised to see them hold up fairly well with my namesake....

RiverRatt 11-27-2003 01:00 PM

Tons of schoolies and blues on 4" shad color and 3 keepers up to 34", got to get some more for spring :)

Diamondwrapper 11-27-2003 02:52 PM

The slower I fished them the better they worked.;)

hubco 11-27-2003 02:54 PM

4" peanut bunker.......bouncing on the bottom

InshoreAngler 11-27-2003 03:05 PM

ooo.....i can never find the 4" in bunker....anyone know where you can get them?

Don M 11-27-2003 03:17 PM

4" Bunker

InshoreAngler,
We have about 4 packages left at King Cove Outfitters. You can PM me if you want some.

I have had decent success in the breachways with the 4" and 5" Pinfish as well as the 4" and 5" Bunker.

HAD GREAT SUCESS MAINLY SCHOOLIES ON 4'' MULLET AND BUNKER.I SMASH DOWN BARB FOR CATCH AND RELEASE AND WHEN I WAS STANDING IN WATER RELEASING A BASS I FORGOT THE STORMS IS NOR FIRM LIKE A BUCKTAIL AND GRABBED STORM HEAD WHEN BASS TURNED AND STORM HOOK RIPPED MY FINGURE OPEN.DID'NT MAKE THAT MISTAKE AGAIN.LOVE THE STORMS CAST GREAT AND CATCH SMALL AND BIG,IS MY NEW GO TO LURE.

Mr. Sandman 11-28-2003 02:58 PM

This is an exceptional lure. It casts great for being mostly rubber based . The weight is great. I gernerally use a pretty big one from the surf and had great success. Blues make quick work of the boides I personally lost at least two dozen to blues...just heads left. My kids like this little one in the ponds here for school bass...very effective.
This spring I caught a 31#er on one, a 5" or so pogy pattern.

I have a huge one about 10" for trolling...I have used it a couple times briefly and so far trolled it deep with wire and just lost one with with it. It is a blue-green color.

lawman 11-28-2003 05:25 PM

Can someone explain the technique when using these? Slow retrieval speed? on top? or below?

hubco 11-28-2003 06:39 PM

i try everything.....some times one thing works sometimes another.......slow & steady seems to work best most of the time....just fast enough to feel the tail working...i ussualy let it drop to the bottom before retrieval....bigger fish on the bottom mentality..........some times pick one up on the drop...........hope this helps

The Dad Fisherman 11-28-2003 11:11 PM

I have 2 retrieves that I pretty much use with these. One is the Slow and steady that hubco mentioned. That one works probably 75% of the time for me. The other way is a stop and go where I bring the rod from pointing out at the water to pointing to the sky. I usually get hits right when I start to raise the rod after the 1st or 2nd time.

I did have real good luck w/ these this year

Nebe 11-28-2003 11:24 PM

I bore out a hole in the belly and fill er up with smelly jelly :lasso:

Slingah 11-29-2003 11:44 AM

schoolies in spring
that's when I use these things

cheferson 11-29-2003 12:42 PM

6" pearl shad

I caught over 300 stripers this october using the 6" pearl shad. When people next to me were casting everything they had and were saying the fish were picky , i was pulling fish out every cast. I had many 30+ days, mostly bass only a few blues. I didnt have too much luck with the bunker color. I caught some fish just slightly larger then the lure. I tried the 9" shad but i found the double hook to be a pain in the ass when fish got hooked twice, lost time that i coulda caught more. Some days i would hook into so many i would bend down the barb, and hook into 6 different fish on a cast, bringing one in . LA\rgest i brought in was 16.5lb 35" with many just a little smaller, and a mess of schoolies. I had one massive fish spool me, i can i only dream about how big it was, i couldnt even stop its run.:smash:

Love Live Storms

Hottest lure this season. Started the season using the 5 inch in rivers and ended the season using the 9 inch. Bunker & Pearl were the only colors I used. From surf, from jetties and from boats!
