OH my, that is sad. He made a MAJOR contribution to the sport IMO.

...good surf, big fish, and tight lines

BigFish 02-04-2004 06:04 PM

My condolences to the Gibbs family and to a member here on the site who I believe was a very good friend of Stan Gibbs, Flaptail. Flaptail told me right after the Plug Feast that Stan was living in a rest home in Chatham I believe he said. Keep the great memories close Flaptail, and that original Gibbs plug you generously shared with us all at Plug Feast closer. Thanks again for sharing.:kewl:

Rest in peace Stan Gibbs, the first name in plug building as far as I am concerned.:uhuh:

Godspeed Stan Gibbs.

Mike P 02-04-2004 08:25 PM

Stan was a real good guy on top of everything else.

He'll be missed. He was an even more talented wood carver than he was a plugmaker.

Diamond Tackle 02-04-2004 09:04 PM

Sorry to hear it. :(
Rest in peace MR Gibbs.
Condolences to his family and friends.
One thing for sure, his name will live on.

NIB 02-04-2004 09:10 PM

RIP Stan Thanks for everything.

Got Stripers 02-04-2004 09:14 PM

He's catching nothing but large now, one after the other.

capesams 02-04-2004 09:33 PM

I've driven past stans n. home atleast 4-8 times a day for the past two years, thinking I should stop an say hello, but always being in rush I never did. I just didn't want to be one of those people looking to have him sign a plug like so many others, being a pest..I know his son an will send a card or say something when I see him at the coffee shop...another great local fisherman gone:(

TheSpecialist 02-04-2004 10:06 PM

Very sad indeed. Rest in Peace Stan..

John,

Maybe a place where a deceased or otherwise senior fisherman would be honored with a bio, anecdotes and photos.

It would be a museum of sorts.

what do you think ?

JHABS 02-05-2004 09:02 AM

A Great Loss. He was the Real Pioneer and inventor who will never be forgotten.

It seems like yesterday, when I would go out to the shed and buy plugs off the wire, shoot the bull, and listen to Stans words of wisdom.

Although Stan is gone :(

His legacy lives on... He will always be remembered!!!

From everything that I have heard about Stan, he was a prince of a guy and an extraordinary, yet ordinary gentleman & fisherman.

My condolences go out to the Gibbs family.

We need more Stan Gibbs' in the world!!!

nor-easter 02-06-2004 01:13 AM

Stan has now gone to fish in that Great Surf in the Sky.
May he receive the Blessings of peace that only Christ can give.
My sympathy to the Family.
He was a treasure to all who knew him. He will live on in the many fine works of art he produced over the years.

RIP Met Stan and his sons in the mid 70's. Fished a "breaking" tide behind Playland before it was Leperland with him and a few sharpies. Bass were busting whiting and every one hooked up useing his pencils. After the action died I brought my fish to Bessies and got in line with everyone else. I used to go by the shop to buy seconds from him. Another interesting note, he could cast as far as guys half his age. From what I have heard he did pretty good in the "Masters" division at some of the casting contests.

nor-easter 02-06-2004 05:04 PM

I sent his obituary to a friend of mine at IGFA and suggested his name be placed in the IGFA HALL OF FAME.
