Don't know if this qualifies as a movie, but Band Of Brothers is by far the best I've seen.
Second is Saving Private Ryan. The first 15 minutes alone of the D-Day landing are more realistic than any war movie before. |
George C Scott? if thats not it I haven't a clue
|
Gary Cooper TDF!
|
Braveheart
Platoon Full Metal Jacket (first half) Siege of Firebase Gloria Hamburger Hill Apocolypse Now Black Hawk Down Saving Private Ryan We were Soldiers Navy Seals Platoon Leader Casulties of War Sniper The Green Berets |

All my favorites have already been mentioned (Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now, Platoon) so I will add a few more:
The Enemy Below (Robert Mitchum) Dr. Strangelove (George C. Scott, Peter Sellers, etc.) Sahara (with Bogart, although the remake with Jim Belushi was OK) Caine Mutiny (Bogart again - "it was the strawberries") Hell is for Heroes (McQueen) In Harm's Way (John Wayne, Kirk Douglas) Schindler's List (Liam Neeson) Von Ryan's Express (Sinatra) Go Tell the Spartans (a little known flick with Burt Lancaster that has some interesting insight into the very beginning of Vietnam, during the "advisors" phase) The Beast (No, not the one about the giant squid! This is another hard to find flick that tells the story about a Russian tank that gets lost during their occupation of Afghanistan. Will give you an idea about why it is so hard to catch Osama) Finally - Does Casablanca count? |
The War of the Roses.
:hihi: Apocalypse Now Papillon Saving Private Ryan The Deer Hunter The Great Escape |

He got it for so perfectly capturing the spirit of a Marine Drill Sgt. in the Movie "Go Tell It To The Marines" |
The Guns Of Navarone
Stalag 17 The Great Escape The Hunt for Red October Crimson Tide The Longest Day Saving Private Ryan The Bridge over River Kwai The Dirty Dozen Not my favorite, but the one I've seen the most is "John Wayne and the Fighting SeaBees". I was a SeaBee and they showed it aout every other week at the base. |

Glory Almost bought the DVD tonight |
Favorite movie about the military...
"The Last Detail" Closest thing to what life is REALLY like in the Navy. Also "Cinderella Liberty" |
Band of Brothers - simply one of the best I've ever seen - still get the chills when I try to visualize what the real guys went thru
Platoon The Longest Day Tora, Tora, Tora Midway Run Sient Run Deep - need to watch again Blackhawk Down (after reading the book) We Were Soldiers, and Young SPR A.N. Patriot I just saw Glory in bits and pieces recently and would like to see the whole thing. Best war spoof - Stripes "You see, if we were in Italy, you could have the top bunk..." Best Fiction -Hunt for Miss October Best Documentary - Victory at Sea series Best "Teen" war movie (when I was a teen) - Red Dawn |
I don't know that I ever saw a war movie I didn't like, except maybe Castle Keep, that was weird. I especially like 'em WWII era, in black and white or early color with actual footage put in, like in Midway and some of the others. The Fighting Sullivans is one I like to look for, also 12 O'Clock high (maybe my all time favorite).
|
