Do you allow personal friends access to your fishing spots?

If a personal friend of yours says "take me fishing", would you?
Would you show him/her your "best" spot or "techniques" ?

BigFish 04-05-2004 01:26 PM

When I find a spot that "produces" on a regular basis, whether they be "nice" fish...."small" fish or even "large" fish for that matter, I generally run a weeklong advertisement in both the Herald and the Globe to let folks know just how good the fishing is in a particular spot! But, Hey....thats just me!:D

The Dad Fisherman 04-05-2004 01:27 PM

It depends on what you mean by "Personal Friend"

"Cuz Homey don't play dat"

BigFish 04-05-2004 01:29 PM

Homey responded to an ad I placed last season and we fished on a Friday and we caught some "nice" fish!:btu:

RI Popper 04-05-2004 02:16 PM

I alwayse tell/show people my most productive spots. I'm not anal and secretive like most. It's only fishing. and I know I can catch fish so why be a sneak? The more success people have the better I can influence them to do good things like conservation, clean ups, etc.....
If God wanted me to be a loner, He wouldn't have made me so handsome :laughs: :laughs: :laughs: :laughs:

Mike P 04-05-2004 02:55 PM

Yeah--I also give them my bank card and PIN, and my credit card account numbers, just in case they want to get in on some Nigerian money laundering scheme.

:wall: :bsod:

chris L 04-05-2004 02:56 PM

GBOUTDOORS 04-05-2004 04:01 PM

RI Popper 04-06-2004 07:32 PM

Come on Raven and Mike P... I know you guys must be a lot nicer than that. It's fishing. Get poeple on fish and yoiu get to brag about it. other than that. they think it's all just fishing stories :)

Slipknot 04-06-2004 07:38 PM

beachwalker 04-07-2004 12:58 AM

striprman,

my personally favorite spot is about 80 miles south of here.

we should go check it out sometime. I have these cool concrete boots which are great for when you hook up a 700 lb. bluefin..........

stop making yourself such an obvious target.

JohnR 04-07-2004 07:31 AM

Armand - I might take a handfull of people to some great spots but they are people that I enjoy fishing with, typically know what they are doing or show great effort for and they are people that show me similar in their area - but I don't feel the need to talk about it...

What I've found as I continue to learn fishing (a lifetime education in my opinion) is that when I am fishing with like-minded individuals, we'll share knowledge and insight and become the better of it. Some of it will be historical, some of it might be technical, some theoretical. Similar to what I think this site often accomplishes (but in some threads comes up short :rollem: ). This knowledge is spot independent and can be applied at many different locales. I think it's also essential to becoming a competent angler. It's not necessarily "where" one fishes that builds competency but how one applies lessons learned across a multitude of spots.

As this knowledge is gained and you prove and disprove some of your theorys and W.A.G.s you learn to select spots based on all kinds of factors like I think this wind against that current as it wraps this structure would be huge. Sure, other spot specific stuff goes in, something you see on the net, an article in one of the trade rags, a conversation with someone all filter down to what new spots you want to try and learn and be productive....

Ooops - gotta run...

RI Popper 04-07-2004 09:41 AM

OOOps gotta run....

Man I was getting into that philosophy of fishing explaination. Please continue when you get a chance. I wasn't saying that I bring everyone to my favorite spots. just those who deserve it. One hand washes the other. and more often then not I'm the first one to wash the hand. Sometimes they don't get washed back and that don't really bother me because that's me. But other times it does come back and I reaffirm my faith in mankind. :)

Rappin Mikey 04-07-2004 12:50 PM

If someone asked me, they'd definitely see a 'hole'.

RI Popper 04-07-2004 08:45 PM

john, what does W.A.G.s mean??

fishweewee 04-07-2004 08:56 PM

"Wild-A$$ed-Guess" I think.

Nebe 04-07-2004 09:44 PM

Were all Googans

beachwalker 04-07-2004 11:28 PM

Raven 04-08-2004 11:23 AM

john

you forgot theatrical ......

Billybob 04-08-2004 02:06 PM

Well
If ya don't then you're a -------------.
O.K. class here's a clue -
" Bruce Berry was a working man, he used to load that Econoline....van."

Which is O.K.

Of course everyone knows that boaters are social bunch, now I ain't sayin we're friendlier or anything. We just, well we, you know - - need the gas money.

So, of course I take people to my best spots - I wanna catch large too.

Plus, does it really matter?

We all know........

BOAT FISH DON"T COUNT!

I no, I think I'm gettin it.

Fishpart 04-08-2004 02:17 PM

I've had people show me some of their spots. I've shared some of them with friends, some of them will NEVER be mentioned in public. If I fish with a friend, I go to catch fish........

Crafty Angler 04-12-2004 02:07 PM

Define "personal friend".........

MAC 04-12-2004 03:28 PM

Well ya see there is this place......and it has easy parking.......and they'll give you herring.........Somebody told me that they call it the ditch. Can anybody tell me where it is and if I can catch fish there?

Notaro 04-12-2004 10:09 PM

I have no friends. And the last time I had "friends" was when they expect me to buy them baits and rigs, etc. And they don't pay me back. I guess that I get conned the last time. Oh well. I fish alone. Then I am a bitter old boy who is going to be 21 in two weeks (April 24th). And again, what is a blueberry beer? How does it taste? I want to try it. :smash:

RI Popper 04-12-2004 10:16 PM

OHhhhhh notaro or should I say notaurious. Don't drive away everyone because of some. Friends are nice to have on the water sometimes. There are those times though that I love being alone on the water just me and the fish. Especially in my small boat at night. Just Evinrude, God and me. and the occasional striper. :) :)

Notaro 04-12-2004 10:23 PM

Armand, it is true, but they made me buy them stuffs. I wish I had a car. So I can drive on my own to every spot to cast some eels and plugs with some diehards here. I fish with my dad occassionaly except that I treat him like a son instead of a father...:smash: Lets just say that I was a bad teacher...

Hmmm...Joseph, Uncle Crafty suspects that the dastardly WeeWee has gotten hold of your password and is posing as you from your IP address....and may be posting ...uhhh...on your behalf.

If it really is your post, don't worry, you got plenty of friends. But ya really want to know what blueberry beer is, huh?

WAIT A MINUTE - DAMN YOU WEEWEE!

This is truly nefarious, dastardly...okay, maybe even a little funny. I hope you haven't been encouraging Joseph to drink blueberry beer - he will find himself with friends in very low places indeed, regardless of what he may learn as a consequence.

Notaro 04-13-2004 07:57 AM

That was my post, Chuck. Yes, I do have some friends and none of them like fishing. Yes, I do want to know what a blueberry beer is.

Nebe 04-13-2004 08:39 AM

That beer IS tastey....

Notaro.... watering holes are like honey holes.... we'd never burn either on the net:)

Crafty Angler 04-13-2004 05:59 PM

Well, then my young friend since you're gonna be in Newport maybe we can convene a group of gentlemen to introduce you to the enjoyable world of the bloooberry lager....

WeeWee, my apologies, - hey, are you guys staying over? I have to work Saturday - let me know.

Joseph, I keep forgetting - what time will you be at the Edge Saturday - I can meet you in the AM (early) and we can do the trade -

The wading shoes are in good shape, right?

Notaro 04-14-2004 12:17 AM
