Coffee.. Java... Joe... Lifeblood :D 24/7

Ok, so since presumably most of us live on the stuff, i figured we'd start a thread of our favorite 24/7 coffee connections (the real coffee connection is a 6a-3p spot :( )

My top 3 Rhody spots...

Ma's in Newport, right on the rotary
Cumberland Farms in Jamestown
BessEaton/Tim Horton in Wakefield

BigFish 05-24-2004 07:51 AM

Oh yeah....when I wake up, before I go to bed and all day long!

Must have coffee, java, joe, mud, and none of this latte' crap......good old fashioned, regular high test!!! (Just sitting down with my morning cup as I type this). Call me crazy (most people do) at home....good old fashioned Maxwell House instant coffee.....thats right....instant! However when I am on the road.....nothing but Dunkin Donuts for me.....no Starbucks (overpriced, overrated, and tastes over cooked always).....no Honey Dew, and definately none of the following....McDonalds coffee:yak: one stop gas stations and convieniece stores:yak6: :yak4: Even under the worst conditions....I will not settle for anything but Dunkin Donuts when I "NEED" my coffee. When I am fishing the nightshift......two thermoses filled with double "D". Gotta have it, just like I gotta have my favorite fishing rod, I gotta have my coffee!!!!!! And how do I "like it" you ask???? Great one......no sugar....with extra cream please....very, very light!!!!:btu:

JohnR.....we need a smilie to represent "coffee".....can we get one?

RIROCKHOUND 05-24-2004 08:00 AM

Yeah I like DD, but I have no problem with convience store coffee, around here cumbie's uses green mtn, which is decent enough, but I'm a coffee, black, no sugar, no milk kind of guy... and starbucks :rocketem: is for yuppies, ( FWW :D )

BigFish 05-24-2004 08:04 AM

Green mountain is alright....the problem with some of those conveniece stores and gas stations is that the coffee is not their primary motivation its just a sideline....therefor I believe that the coffee tends to sit too long and it burns (overcooks). You know what I mean? DD has such a quick turnover that the coffee is always fresh!:D

You ever have Kona coffee??? OOOhhhhh that stuff is pretty goooood!;)

Starbucks....:smash:   if it was the only coffee place for a hundred miles I would keep driving! None of that lah-ti-dahhh stuff for me!

Moose Nuckle 05-24-2004 08:07 AM

I'm sure most of us will agree that Big Fish is right. I also like D.D. A Large Ice Coffee Black with Sugar. There is another place called Coffee Express in Quincy. Different blends of coffee, Great stuff. Going for one in a little while.....

BigFish 05-24-2004 08:10 AM

The worlds first Dunkin Donuts happens to be right across from the Team Sea Monkey Marina!!!! Great things happen in that neighborhood!:D The bonus for Team Sea Monkey....(and those fortunate enough to be card carrying honorary members) is that Dunkin Donuts is open 24/7!!! :gu:

RIROCKHOUND 05-24-2004 08:11 AM

Yeah burned coffee :yak5:
Kona
Jamacian Blue Mtn even better!!

Moose Nuckle 05-24-2004 08:12 AM

That;s right. What do you meen Honorary. You be full time!!

Sorry I'm not trying to High Jack this great topic!!

BigFish 05-24-2004 08:13 AM

Great thread RIRockhound.......Gawd I love my coffee!!:D

rwilhelm 05-24-2004 09:54 AM

By the way how is the Tim Horton coffee, is it the same as Bess Eaton just changed ownership? I was in Pier Plaza two weeks ago and to my suprise Bess Eaton all closed up, anybody know if a Horton's will be going there also?

RIROCKHOUND 05-24-2004 09:55 AM

I dont think so, i think the hortons are in where they will be and thats it... sucks, thats right up thr road:(

rwilhelm 05-24-2004 10:00 AM

That's lame that is a prime spot. First Pit & Patio now Bess Eaton.

Fishpart 05-24-2004 10:36 AM

Have to make it at home. Most places you can buy it only have what I refer to as "brown liquid". Must be strong, not burned, cold is OK with me. I definitely prefer Cumberland Farms to DD any day..............I just wish the one on 1A by ------ ------ was open past 11.......

fishdump 05-24-2004 12:41 PM

Not to hijack, but pit n patio was great and the Bess Eaton location there was prime. I used to work at Pit n Patio back in 97-98. Still good friends with the former owner. For coffee DD for me sweet and light. Haven't tried Horton's yet.

jugstah 05-24-2004 01:12 PM

Only coffee I ever drink is Dunkin Donuts or my own homebrewed pot of coffee with dunkin donuts beans, fresh, or I'll get freshly grinded beans from the local supermarket if I'm in the mood for somethign exotic...

speaking of which, anyone know how to make a cheaper blend of the DUnkin donuts ground beans?? :)

spinncognito 05-24-2004 01:32 PM

I will become totally useless and plagued with serious headaches by 8AM (get up at 4) with my LG DD Light Xtra sugar. Coffee is the first medicine I take, daily.

Hey Fishdump why did Pit n Patio close up? Anytime I ever went there was a good crowd, I figure they were doing pretty well.

Nebe 05-24-2004 02:32 PM

ahh coffee.. lifes last legal stimulant:)

The Dad Fisherman 05-24-2004 02:46 PM

Don't Forget Red Bull

Dunks is good but I find the little breakfast shops have the best IMO.

Got no use for Starbucks...$3 for a cup of coffee.....get real

Jenn 05-24-2004 05:18 PM

coffe mostly black no cream no sugar but once in a while I feel like a little cream and sugar I will get it. coffee from home coffee from work coffee from dunkies honeydew bess eaton cumby's it dont matter when I am in need of a coffee. But my favorite is coffee made in a good old fashioned perker. cant beat it. Amazing the robust flavors you miss out on with drip style coffee makers so whenever I have the time to spare its the perked coffee for me!

fishweewee 05-24-2004 05:27 PM

I'm not a big coffee drinker, but will indulge when I need a pick-me-up once in a blue moon. For me, the effects are short-lived - I'll be flying the first half hour and then crash and burn the next.

I know some people who are SO addicted to coffee - that they literally can't function without it (interestingly, more women than men).

These people will actually go through withdrawl symptoms if they don't get their caffeine fix - these usually manifest themselves as headaches and irritability.

Another thing - and sorry if this is a bit crude - but many of these caffeine addicts can't have a bowel movement without their morning coffee.

When you get this dependent on a substance, it kinda makes you wonder.

BTW, I prefer the taste of Dunkin' Donuts but the stronger-brewed Starbucks will wake me up (and deplete my wallet) a bit faster.

Raider Ronnie 05-24-2004 06:12 PM

I drink DD daily, but if you have noticed how much the price has gone up over the past 5 years, in another 5 years from now it will cost $5.00 for a large cup, and the girls at the drive up window will still give you a dirty look if you don't give them a tip!!!
Ron

RIROCKHOUND 05-24-2004 06:14 PM

Yup.. I'ts a ploy to cover the cost of all the latte-dah crap they carry too... yuck!

BigFish 05-24-2004 09:25 PM

Yup!:D We also had coffee so....Fun+Coffee=

Moose Nuckle 05-25-2004 06:30 AM

You want High Test Coffee? Drink it black with sugar. Don't put milk, skim milk or cream in it. Drink it straight up with sugar.

Karl F 05-25-2004 07:01 AM

The local Dunkin's ain't bad, as long as you like "regular".. no matter what ya ask for, that's what ya get

The local Cumby's and Tedeschi's, vary from shift to shift... if I see certain clerks working, I know the coffee is fresh, and if it isn't they give me a quick heads up, and offer to make a fesh pot!

How come nobody mentioned Mary Lou's? We don't have them out this way, but I love their TV ads....

AM Coffee... black and hot.
after lunch, I take a regular.... so I'm open to different versions.

There was a guy on the beach for years, used to avoid his coffee, it was half and half... half coffee, half Old Thompsons!!

HighTide 05-25-2004 08:59 AM

Black. No milk. No sugar. Used to like DD, but they've gone downhill IMO. I get my first cup across the street at 711 on the way in to work.

You know what was really good was the A&P 8:00 coffee. You can still buy it in most supermarkets, but A&P had the coffee grinders right at the checkout counters and you could smell the beans as soon as you walked into the place.

Moose Nuckle 05-25-2004 12:30 PM

High Tide,
The A&P by Peter's Pond down the Cape has the coffee grinders. Good Stuff.

BasicPatrick 05-25-2004 06:10 PM

COFFEEEEEE

My name is Patrick and I am a Caffeine addict.

A pot of anything at hom in the morning will work. The DD in Hull is referred in my house as the Hull Toll Booth, you must stop going in or out of town. Milk & Sugar or Milk & extra sugar for me please. Iced or hot does not matter.

DD is ok but had definately gone down hill across the board in the last 6 months. so has tyhe ability of the stafff to speak English.

Starbucks has much bettter quality coffewe, but damn, toooo much $ and Toooo much attitude.

Mary Lous...Try the extra special Iced Funky Fanabla with the "secret" ... need detox after
I get head aches when I am not drinking cofee anbd yes FWW there is something wrong with that. But then again, I choose to fish instead of work and face consequences...there is something wrong with this also

Coffee Smileys are a must

Big fish will never be a Sea Monkey Moose....

Slingah you are right, BF needs to take a look at it...

You guys never call me these days....

Slingah 05-25-2004 07:21 PM

I never said what I like...
Black
Black iced
STARBUCKS RULES
D.D. will surfice....there is one virtually everywhere
I like to taste my coffee.
also the darker the roast the less caffine...common misconception that darker coffee is stronger

BigMike 05-28-2004 03:02 PM

Don't you guys ever brew your coffee at home and bring it with you in a thermos? This works out pretty good, as coffee in small doses doesn't go through you as fast:rollem: It gives you a good jolt if the fish aren't hitting after a couple hours as well!!

C-5 CC 05-28-2004 04:14 PM

The DD at the rotary at the bourne bridge...just enough caffine to make it to RP
