MSBA Wednesday....Who Is Going To Hear Flaptail Flap?

All are welcome......you do not need to be a member, but hey....why wouldn't you want to join and be a member of the largest and oldest saltwater fishing club in New England!;) Now is the time to renew your membership or, if you are not currently a member, see the membership chair at the meeting and join!:D Steve "Flaptail" Shiraka is the featured speaker this month and will be giving a presentation on "Catching Big Striped Bass From The Cape Cod Surf"! Should be a great time and I know there will be quite a few site members in attendance so come join in the fun!

Who is gonna be there?

BEETLE 11-15-2004 05:41 PM

We are also going to have an additional raffle going on to benefit one of the old time members who had his trailer in Florida totaled in the hurricanes.
Naturally, the outpouring of support and donations has been tremendous and this looks to be a great table coming together, so rob your piggy banks kids, and buy some tickets..... Santa may be early for you this year.. ;)

Again as I said in an earlier post, i'll be in a "quiet zone" taking many notes, :read:

This is one of those meetings you don't want to miss.

Watch for spitballs and flying marshmallows :D

Bronko 11-17-2004 10:45 AM

7:30 at the Viking Club? What time are you speaking Flaptail??

Water Treater 11-17-2004 12:04 PM

I am planning to attend (and take notes!)

This will be my first MSBA meeting. My work/home schedule will not permit me to regularly attend monthly meetings but I will join to show my support.

Flaptail 11-17-2004 12:10 PM

Bronk, when they finish thier regular business. I plan to arrive there 'bout 6 or so. Salty I like mini-jet-puffs! And no melted or half melted ones or I put my phaser on slaughter setting!

Mr. Brett, should I let out our "secret weapon" tonight?:D

JohnR 11-17-2004 01:56 PM

See y'all there...

Water Treater 11-17-2004 02:27 PM

Flap,

I don't know if you should. This traditional "tuna" lure is so simple in design and fuction it's difficult for hard core striped bass fishermen to take it serously.

While trolling with this lure I've caught bass, blues, and cod (yes, cod). I know that this lure will fool very large bass. To prove it I have a straightened 7/0 hook attached to one of these lures that caught the attention of a 40 (?) pound bass in Cape Cod Bay near Plymouth last year. I usually hold my rod while trolling and the strike nearly ripped my shoulder off. When the lure went in the water it had a "gloss black" paint job but after a 10 second battle with this monster the lure's surface was reduced to a "matte" finish. I retired this feathered lure after that episode and converted all my lures to 4X hooks and even tuna/shark hooks.

This type of lure works anywhere you have an unobstructed sandy bottom and reasonably deep water. It's not a good choice when fishing boulder fields or areas with a kelp seabed such as Rhode Island's Matunuck Deep Hole, Narragansett, or the fire beach at Weekapaug because it will hang up on the bottom.

On the outer Cape, however, .....

Good luck tonight.

Bill

Just getting back into town after being away for a couple days, much as I'd like to, I don't have the energy.
