these weigh about 2.65 with hooks.

Bruce Borge's who is maybe 69-70 years old now,,it was his dad that made these...I'd have to say somewhere in the early 1900's .

They look real nice, and its just my observation, but unless you have a lot of weight in the tail, these *appear* like they might not cast that great. Have you actually cast these?

no weight, but then again when these were used ya didn't have to cast real far

Not sure on the length of these Cutty's, but the Goo Goo Eyes knockoffs I made were very similar in design and shape and were tail weighted.....pretty sure they have to be with the balance of the weight on the Cutty's forward....they will need some tail weight.:confused: I could be wrong but you also need the tail weight to get the tail down in the water so they can "pop"!;)

An old timer I know who fished the old Chatham cut at Nauset back in the 50's and 60's said they had great success with the cutty's there as well, you wouldn't have had to cast far there either, get them in the current, and you coulda let them go however far out you wanted.. From what I gather, you kinda wanted these to sit flat in the water, and the rougher, or faster moving the water, the better. The Originals were cotterpinned, not thru wired, nose and belly hook, were even thru pinned together, so the cotter's might have given them the weight displacement, that was unique to them. If my mind id working OK this AM, I think somone, (AdamR, meybey?) posted some pics of the originals, either in the some plugs thread, or the one that I started about a year ago on cuttyhunk poppers.....originals were also mainly redheads/white body.

I was looking at a real one last week and there isn't any weight. Must cast like poop. but like karl said get it out in current and let it float :btu:

no lead in the one I borrowed. ....swivel's were pinned....color was white with a red head....looked like it was fished maybe twice if that..

alot of people are under the impression these days if it doesn't cast like a rocket it's got to b junk...not so....every plug has it's place to b fished in.....some plugs only need to b thrown 10' at most to get into the killing fields.....

note to others, if you need a popper to cast far ,make it correct in how it is to ride in the water.....
another side note, the smallest creek chub popper is deadly in tight when the fish are pushing small pogies and sand ells on the shore.

That will always be easy, the capesammy's are always nicer!

Nice plugs Steve! Here are a few originals. In addition to these colors pictured, I've had a solid gray, and a blue back/ white belly. Not sure what other colors they might have made.
